⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ 7 Trains in Queens during the late-January 2022 Blizzard

- Опубликовано: 10 окт 2024
- Here we see 7 trains running on the IRT Flushing Line in Queens, battling their way through an intense blizzard. Heavy snow, high winds, and temperatures in the teens were no match for the skill and acumen of the talented people who run NYC's subway trains. Enjoy!

Never realized how close they can run those cbtc lines trains, that’s awesome!
@@mychickennuggetlover they can
Ah yes that sweet propulsion sound of the r188 (besides the cracking sound on the 3rd rail from snow)
@@mychickennuggetlover your joking right
@@SmileyShorts900 My son is unfortunately trolling you, just like how he is trolling everyone else for no reason.
No idea
That THIRD rail was letting us KNOW 😳😳😂
I love watching trains in the snow. So majestic and beautiful
Have a look on YT of videos showing 3rd rail powered trains in the UK. You get some impressive sparking with all the arcing caused by the snow and ice on the 3rd rail
I first got that same feeling as a kid growing up in Brooklyn. Used to take the old New Lots Avenue line and could watch the trains from my window. It was quite a site to see. Am glad others enjoy the same thing.
Yes it has
Seeing the trains run in inclement weather is very positive press for New York
For the most part NYC prepares in advance like most cities to minimize disruption to public transportation including buses with chains on the wheels.
@@ZeitGeist_TV only on the buses
@@sitdowndogbreath Of course only buses have chains, didn’t know my comment reads as implying anything other then that. 🤷🏾♂️
@@ZeitGeist_TV I take of Siberia Russia that some of sand or rough texture device is on the trains out there I think
Oh
Man, this brings back memories of my days in NYC and riding the subway when it snowed. In particular, I remember those sparking 3rd rails -- and how those sparks would sometimes rain down on you when the trains were on the elevated sections of the system. Finally, remembering seeing a New Lots Ave bound no. 2 train slide about almost two cars past the 225th street station in the BX because the ice was so bad. Man those were the days.
I always love the heat that's inside the trains on a snowy day. Thanks for making me feel warm on a snowy day. 🥰
What I've been told they no longer use heating inside the train either to keep the homeless out or to not incubate Alpha Coronavirus
Np
This mta really can run thru bad weather hands down 🙌🙌🙌
Well, yeah, but within limits. Some above ground service was suspended. For example the A run out to the Rockaway's was suspended as the snow was heavier there. I believe a few other above ground lines were also suspended or partly suspended.
@@WitchidWitchid Especially if the line is on the surface.
Amazing
A moment of thanks DJHAMMERS for braving the storm to upload this video?!#😀😀♥️♥️

2:00 really shows the robustness of the system. 4 trains (two Manhattan-bound local, one express, one Queens-bound) in 30 seconds, all in a blizzard. Wow.
Yes it is insane
I'm am from New York. The 7 (Flushing) line is one of the best lines in the system, because both the 7 local & the 7 express services has it's own sets of trains, so the service is robust.
Cool
@@amazing50000not to mention the fact that you can transfer to 20 different lines as well as the MNRR and the LIRR. The 7 line is crazy cool.
and I forgot to say that you can also transfer to Amtrak, NJT and the NJT busses at port authority bus term.
I am very impressed how you moved at 5.57 to get a perfect view down the centre of the platform. Superb attention to detail. And the view also shows very clearly the difference between the bow sided cars on the former BMT/IND lines and the flat sided cars on the former IRT lines. I am English and live in London. I have visited New York only once and that was many years ago when my wife and I stayed with my one of my wife's relatives in the Bronx on line 4, our local station being Burnside Avenue.
That is my main stop in the Bronx Burnside Ave where my dad live
@@DARTHBLUNT713 It's a small world. My wife's relative lived in Andrews Avenue immediately north of its junction with West Burnside Avenue. I live near an Underground/Subway/Metro station myself - Seven Sisters on London's Victoria Line.
Oh
1:00 those sparks
Snow in NYC is so magical.
Awesome footage!! 1st time seeing NYC Subways operating in a blizzard!! Thanks so, so much for braving the elements to "Go outside and play in the snow!!!"
Damn, that was one heck of a snow blizzard in the late month of January 2022. Nice recorded video, DJ's Hammers Trains!
@1:12, I spotted that the tracks on the 7 trains is about to start a fire when the tracks with this train is standing to this station too long. : 0
Whoa
You guys have more snow, cold and wind than we have here in North Dakota. Wish I was there, but the best I can do now is to watch your tubes. Broadway LION.
Some fantastic shots you have here...
I don't know who took this video but many kudos to you. You are one tough customer!! Thanks for your suffering!
One of my favorite trains of all time...
Now the old neighborhood of Long Island City has changed so much since 1961 I don't recognize it anymore!
Reminder: this is new york
2:20 Jesus Christ those trains were like 15 seconds apart, CBTC is doing its tricks huh
@@mychickennuggetlover Can you stop with that please? You’re getting very annoying.
@@lewisrichardsdad3613 Fr.
15 seconds hmmm, not during a snow storm, maybe a minute apart.
FYI, driving in snow is pretty scary and hard, especially for us operators, and even though the event of a major storm and operating through one is very slim, it’s still a possibility and operators should be respected for. (I’ve only done it once, so my experience isn’t high, lol)
Awesome Snowy R142A Convert & R188 catches they're definitely getting a snow bath.
Yes they do
Nice video. Haven't been there since 2009.
That 3rd rail sizzles like bacon!
I'm just surprised they ran in this weatther
probably to keep the tracks and 3rd rail free of ice/ snow buildup
Only one 7 express train runs during winter storm to accommodate delays and keep the third rail active.
Oh wow even the still ran.

Eyes still glued together Lewis, or Kenneth Rembert 4.0?
@@mychickennuggetlover That’s not true. All you say is lies and misinformation. What he is saying is facts.
@@fiercingdragon He’s off his meds for some reason.
I just wanna go back to new york it doesn't really snow here in new Jersey
I remember this winter storm very well. The NY Islanders had to postpone a game that was supposed to take place that Saturday against the Seattle Kraken because it got so bad. 2021-22 was the first season that the Seattle Kraken were a team.
Went to Aviation HS in the 80's remember that station well
This is some nice footage right here.
Thank You!
1:01 has anyone notice that spark on the tracks
That's the third rail.
I Heard it
I notice almost everything
That's because it's wet and salt outside
1:37 whites the signal green blinking aspect means, usually after passing a signal, they turn red
That because its automated train, it drives itself.
CBTC is active in the area
The 7 has several stations in common with the Philly Market St. El.
This a Winter Season we werent expecting!
So.....
Are we not gonna talk about why 7 express trains are running on a Saturday??
It’s best to not look a gift horse in the mouth, better express trains than shuttle busses every weekend😭
🐦~ Express 7 on a Saturday? Must have been due to the condition at hand ✌
@@schen5425 Yeah but then again, the flushing line has 3 tracks. Meaning, that express trains can only go in one direction at a time. If there were 4 tracks, then they could have express in both directions.
🐦~ what is there to say? It probably was express on that particular Saturday because of the snow conditions and lack of trains. Hey I'm all for having express on wkends. Understnd? ✌
Yes

@@EthanF175 Disregard Lewis. You’re not a troll and he isn’t spewing out anything logical. My son appears to be off his meds again.
The NYC has the advantage of the trains picking up the power from the underside of the conductor rail. Here in the UK generally where a conductor rail is used the train picks up from the top of the rail. Once I heard of a train where the pickups were arcing so much they become welded to the conductor rail!
You made a mistake. In NYC my old hometown all subway trains have a third rail shoe between the wheels that slides above the 3rd rail that is now covered by an aluminum board above the rail. It is electrified with 600 volts of DC current. The Market Frankford subway line in Philadelphia has an upsidedown 3rd rail where the 3rd rail shoe slides underneath the rail. It is also charged at 600 volts of DC current.
@@luislaplume8261 Having the board above the rail would explain why it looks as if it were using an under rail contact. It must still cut right down on problems with ice and snow build-up on the 3rd rail.
Most passenger lines in the south and south east of England use a 3rd rail 750V DC (max speed 100mph). I believe the longest route is at least 120 miles long. I don't know if any routes in the UK hold any records for the longest 3rd rail powered route in the world
@@leeroberts1192 Not the subway, but Metro North Railroad here does have a upside down third rail system. And one of their fleet Kawasaki M8 actually equips both AC OHLE and a third rail shoe that can switch between over running and under running.
I’m always impressed how National Rail runs trains @ 100mph over third rail. The commuter rail here only gets up to 80mph.
@@kkparis Being able to switch between 3rd rail and OLE isn't unsual here in the UK. A couple of routes where it happens that I can think of are the North London Line and Thameslink. There's a new train being trialled which is " tri-mode" (3rd rail, OLE, diesel). There was also a trial in recent years of battery powered trains, think it was OLE with the option of switching to battery power
Wow
People who don't live in NYC won't understand this video!
Idk, seems pretty straightforward, even if the actual task of running the subway in a blizzard isn't.
I live in nyc
Your welcome
I like the rain it felt like I was bathing will moving

How cold outside! I prefer the mild temperature of São Paulo, 20 degrees centigrade (20 degrees C = 68 degrees F). From Brazil!
@@mychickennuggetlover, is it correct now?!!!
It would be not quite 0° C or lower
@@WillsJazzLoft
When I saw the transmission, I immediately looked at the thermometers in São Paulo and New York, and they registered respectively 20 degrees Celsius and -9 degrees Celsius. We are not used to such low temperatures, and we have never seen snow here.
