I use this video in one of my streetcar operator training classes to show switches, interlocking signals, ST & GT signal operation, station approach considerations and typical passenger loading considerations of a heavy rail system. It works perfectly. Thank you. I especially like the steady camera and clear audio.

I always loved being in the front car when I was a kid and seeing out like this....to this day i still do the same thing whenever i ride the subway ...
I think this is the fastest express line in the system now. Timers has killed a lot of the expresses. There are two on this line for the middle track, one i understand as you are on a decline coming into Citi Field. But the timer coming into woodside doesnt need to be there...
no if you ever rode on the 3 train going down westside of manhattan omg the speed on the express train i swear the train was gonna jump the track thats how fast the train was running 4 and 5 ,7 and the 3 trains are the fastest.....
To my knowledge, the unique thing about the NYC subway is that it is the only dedicated express/local subway system built from the ground up! Philly's Broad Street line is the only dedicated four track express/local line outside of New York. Chicago has a three track rush hour express service along its Red Line! But throughout the rest of the US, Europe and Asia, their subways are strictly two track systems! If that's not correct, please feel free to inform us! The New York subway was built with four and three track lines throughout the entire system. Most three track express lines run express service only during rush hours during the workweek as you see in this video! The four track express/local lines run 24/7 but increase the number of trains and the headway during rush hours! I remember when we had trolleys and electric buses in Brooklyn!
Just a suggestion; it might be nice to take a shot or two of the train in their terminal station before the trip begins to give the viewer an even better sense of the ride and maybe a small banner on the bottom of the screen with the station names! I've seen this in videos of the CTA video rides! As the #7 is leaving Hudson Yard station; you may have heard a distinct sound that is made while the train is making that curve. I've asked several motormen and conductors but no one seems to know exactly what causes that near deafening sound! If anyone has an answer or an idea, I'd love to know!! I posted this elsewhere but during my high school days of the 60's, I rode every line in the city including the Staten Island line! I would go after school and sometimes not get home until very late. My parents knew of my love of subways and urban transit and I told them I was going to do it! I was told to 'be careful' and off I went! I saw parts of my own native born city that I had never seen before! I would even get off the train in some neighborhoods and walk around to get a feel of the area then head on home! That was a wonderful hometown exploration! I want to thank DJ Hammers for recording and capturing for posterity our beloved urban railway! You are an 'urbanrailer' like myself and so many who love urban transit systems, domestic and foreign!
If you have any plans to do more of these railfanning videos in the future, my advice is go to the 6 line. Also, I would hold off on any round trips on the 1 line until the new South Ferry platform reopens next year, if I were you.
Thanks a Ton, DJ Hammers, for this ride! Last time i rode the 7 was in 1986 before I moved to California, and I was riding the Redbirds going to Aviation High School for my sophmore year! I like how the new cars have a splash of red on front as a nod to the ol Redbirds! I wonder if they do Nostalga trips with Redbirds?
We used to save time by catching the 6 to the RR to queens plaza or we thought we were saving time. I think we were. Coming back it dpended on if the RR ws coming or not. Nice little donut shop/restaurant underneath QP elevated.
That was the only set in service the entire ride from what I saw. My favorite part is always the express run from 61 ST WOODSIDE to JUNCTION BLVD. Very Nice Video. Has to be just a handful of sets now on the 7
+Dj Hammers Dj? Today saw 3 sets of R62A in service today. Rode #1960 Rfw From 34Th Street Hudson Yards to Main Street. It was express then rode #1960 back to 61 ST Woodside. Very Nice Ride today! 😊
+Dj Hammers Apparently the railfans were out today. I guess word is out the R62A will be history soon on the 7 train. Had 2 join me at the RFW on Car #1960 heading to Main Street.
The "N" and later the "W" line was my home lime back in the 1990. Back.then, I never understood why a 10 car "N" train would extend past the 7 platform (rear and front). Than someone told me the length.of the "N" cars are longer. And to top that off, the "7" is the only one with 11 cars. All the rest have 10 or 8. And the AA had 4 when I used it in.the 80s. 15:53
Friend of mine who is a T.O. out of Westchester Yard told me another 10 cars of 62A arrived Wednesday Morning from the 7 train to the 6 at the Westchester Yard.
I doubt I will get an answer but I will try. What speed does the NY City subway operate at? I realize it will vary with traffic but what generally is the max speed? I have heard all kinds of different speeds so someone who actually KNOWS answering this would ne nice! Thanks for your time. Oh, great video, thanks. It brings back some great memories.
It's a single track for the express, bypassing stations;, is it one direction in the morning and the other in the evening, or is it only ever express in one direction?
I lived along that line from 1969 until 1975 when I moved to a different neighborhood. Now I live on Whidbey Island Washington. Please feel free to visit but don't move here if you like NYC.
the express passed no all stations and those platforms were crowded. plenty of trains going back to town. so do wise people go all the way to one of the three stops and then take the other direction back to where they wanted to get off
@@danielpatterson5245 There's a driver and conductor. The driver drives the train, the conductor works the doors and can sort out questions or issues passengers have.

Even I liked it. Good documentation of my happy place. You had a fast motorman too.
Hello trainluver!
this is a true meditational pleasure to watch
12:48 wooow. Manhattan looks amazing. So nice to take that curve 🤩
True! You cant see the skyline so much today with all the new buildings which have sprouted near that curve.!
I always loved being in the front car when I was a kid and seeing out like this....to this day i still do the same thing whenever i ride the subway ...
Iv been in the R142 cab ITS BUTIFULL
I wanna visit every station in NYC and neighborhoods!
There are 469 stations, it may be a bit difficult to visit all of them in one sitting
It's like I am in a subway train and riding the train to an amazing journey home! : )

I never understood the point of timers, just makes local trains out of expresses

@@jayreal1971 Yeah the speed is so random and the lights go out at random moments on the 3.
Why doesn’t this happen on the 1?
Great video, awesome to see the train leaving the extension that was added to this line.
16:26 That switch to the left connects the 7 to the Astoria line. It is the ONLY connection between the Flushing line and the rest of the system!
When was the last time it was used for revenue service?
@@nyrmetros Probably not since the 2nd ave el with its spur over the 59th street bridge was torn down.

Excellent express run!!! And quite heavily used too during rush hours1😀😀
Suggestion, only you could pull this off.Take pictures of the elevated portions using a Drone...thxs keep up the good work...b
Thank you for the Videos Now this will give me a Idea of what to Study for and Look for whenever the Train Operator Test Decide to come up again
its sucks not seeing the 5 pointz tower in long island city :(
+shof515 Yeah. That was a true piece of NYC history.
Dj Hammers in these video clips do you drive the train? or you took this clip?
I thank the IRT gods for express tracks.

I love the curcis in queens it was good in Mets will

The "Diamond 7" would FLY out to Shea, skipping about fifteen stops. Also good for coming back from day games.

What do the blue lights in the NYC subways mean?
What is the area past Junction Blvd called, before you get to the parklands? It looks really sketchy almost like Baltimore.

pretty fast, hum.how long is this line
This is the shortest line in the system that's not a shuttle, with only 4 stops in Manhattan.
do you guys know any decent games that arnt roblox that has the nyc subway?
What happened at 3:05?
they should run the 7 under the Hudson to NJ for people who hook up with NJ Transit...

Can't. That extension would be under the jurisdiction of the Port Authority.
And it’s the Nyc subway not Nj subway
No stop announcements on this line?
Rod Giacoleetch there’s probably not a speaker in the drivers area

Probably because it's rush hour -- I know London has two modes for train announcements (rush hour and other times).
