  • Using micro crankbaits for panfish is handsdown one of our favorite ways to catch them. Springtime brings a refreshing change, especially for anglers in Upper Minnesota. As the ice melts away, the lakes come alive, and so does the excitement for fishing. Al Lindner shares his experiences and insights on using micro crankbaits for panfish, particularly crappies and bluegills, which could revolutionize your approach to freshwater fishing.

    Grrrr. 😂
The weather has em so messed up here. They want to go but every day is windy with a number of em rainy. Lake up 5 ft and into the trees and bushes making it hard to get to em from the bank.
And while I still do it to some extent, walking the big rip-rap at my age makes for a rough on me day.
And right about the time the time will be right, I forsee the corps will start dumping a bunch of water out driving them off the banks.
I do have an old fire tiger countdown that hasn't seen any use so maybe...
On the other hand, every day out is a blessing from the Lord. And He brings em to me,,, or He doesn't.
In everything give thanks! It's the day the Lord hath made,,, rejoice and be glad.
And thanks AL, for the tips over the last 25 or so years!

I’ve never been a panfish guy. I don’t keep any fish that I catch and my perception is that they’re not fun to catch compared to bass, pike, bowfin etc - this video changed my mind. Thank you!

I used to be ALL gamefish all the time. I would go with my Dad crappie fishing everyone once in a while and we'd catch a few, but never really had decent gear for it. One day I bought a 7' St. Croix Panfish Series ultra-light with a Shimano Stradic 1000 CI4+ and just 4 lb test mono. This combo was a game changer for me. I started catching crappies and gills consistently and noticed I was catching fish that I would have never have been able to with my older and much cheaper gear. The sensitivity of this combo allowed me to not only feel, but see just the slightest of bites at the rod tip. Most of the time I don't even feel a bite, but they're there! Good luck out there! Panfish on ultra light tackle is very comparable to bigger game fish. I've caught muskie on this panfish setup and it performed perfectly!

@@pikehunter23750 I have that same 7’ St Croix Panfish rod with a 1000 size Stradic- it’s an AWESOME combo! I use it for walleye and smallmouth, in some cases- it’s a lot of fun! Thanks for that reply and feedback- think I’ll give micro cranks a try!

@@mikek860 like Al said in the video...most use jigs/hair jigs for crappies. I always overlook the hard baits as well. I have some I've used for trout fishing, but never thought to try for panfish. I'll be trying them out as well!!
