Thank you for this video. I visited Chicago one weekend about 10 years ago specifically to spend some time at the AIC. I distinctly recall tears coming to my eyes as I stood in front of the Chagall windows, overcome by this wonderful experience. I don't often do that in an art museum.
No wonder the windows looked new when I visited last week! Even more beautiful than I remembered, for good reason. Thank you Art Institute. Thank you, Mr. Chagall.
film stated that the flashed glass was blue flashed over yellow to get a green color. BUT it looks like it was blue flashed over clear glass. The yellow needed in-order to get the green was more likely done with the addition of a "painterly" technique called silver staining applied to the back of the blue/clear flashed glass to get the yellow needed to create the green color
Hello, I am from China. Do you have any other contact information? I am very interested in Chagall's glass paintings. Can I communicate with you further? I would like to know how these colors are made.
This is interesting documentary work. I wish that it gave me more time, and with less chat, to enjoy the windows. They were presented almost as tangential to the story, whatever it was supposed be. The “art world” only alienates me, as a person with no place in it.
Yes, they are part of our permanent collection that are on view in a permanent installation. www.artic.edu/aic/collections/artwork/109439?search_no=19&index=0
Thank you so much to everyone who makes these videos possible. Your gift is still giving in 2024.

Terrific video. However it could do without the subtitles as the speakers are all quite clear.
are these windows currently on display in the Art Institute of Chicago?
Yes, they are part of our permanent collection that are on view in a permanent installation.
