So, After watching your videos for awhile, I decided to snag my friend into watching your videos with them together. Turns out, He actually loves the game more then they thought they would, but turns out, doesn't like bugs to much and that they should all burn. Well, I told them that there is flame turrets and a flamethrower that you can use to burn the bugs... Now he wants to see the world set on fire to cleanse the world of the bugs. Though, My friend can never get enough Factorio and I often have to stream for him just so they can see the game even when they're in class. They would rather watch Factorio then pay attention in class. So, I guess I drawn the short end of that stick. Decided to go further back and watch majority of your videos on Factorio gameplay with my friend and ended up watching majority of them. Learning several things that I had forgotten. You decide an award and a gold star. Thank you Sir, Hope you never stop making youtube videos :)
X, you driving me nuts. Fix the belt connecting the green circuits to your assembler that makes yellow inserters so the green science gets made again!!!!!
I am so glad you pointed that out. I doubt he even realized that it was disconnected. I was wondering when he would fix it. But he never did. Maybe he will next episode?
I was stuck at the railway mission in tutorial. I was clueless about how to approach it. After seeing your episode guide, I was confident enough to kick out all the stuffs from the map and started from scratch. Your ideas helped me a lot. I didn't copy things exactly as you played but definitely had your tips in my mind while building my assembly. I don't feel overwhelmed anymore. The sense of accomplishment to make it work feels amazing! I'm sure after completing this tutorial I will go on to buy the game. Thanks a lot.
I decided to watch a tutorial after making a quite compact and absolute cancer of a base. I felt quite retarded (figuratively and literally) I played the first time in 2017 and the game came a long way. Also, the mod stuff is written in Lua? Jesus, that stuff was in development close to the end of the dictatorship because of the protectionist policies didn't let programmers import code to Brazil ( tried to find the source but I watched it on television over a decade ago, considering how responsible journalists are I may be completely wrong).
Wow, that is awesome! I'm so happy to hear that you managed to get past that section and take my tips into account but without completely copying me. I bet the feeling of accomplishment is amazing! That is one of the best things about Factorio, when you finally get something to work or figured out, the feeling of completing it is so great. If you're having this much fun with the tutorials, I know you will have a blast with the game! Thanks for sharing and I hope my tutorials can continue to help if you get stuck. :)
@@abrunosON Lua is very widely used in scripting games because it allows you to easily import external code into the core game. The downside is that it's fairly slow
Curious about going all the way back to the smelters when you had that half line of coal that was stopped when you split off the steel. You could have just ran that split belt forward and used it. 18:23 - 18:30. If you took out that splitter (0:55) and let it run to the next splitter, you would have both of your products without running another belt all the way back to the smelters. As has been mentioned, you need to fix the belt for your green circuits to supply your yellow inserter assembler, you broke it at 2:53.
Five AM1 need exactly 8 stone furnaces doing bricks. Also, you only need 1.5 piercing ammo assemblers (3:1 is only for full production), which can be directly fed from one doing regular ammo in the middle. Something I've seen people doing is build a larger assembly line for ammo production and use that for both science and general consumption. I usually do it separately, but it makes sense.
One thing i would like to bring up and i am not sure why X is not doing it, if you put a space between your buildings you can use 1 power pole to power both sides of inserters. My usual design is building power pole building building power pole. and so on down the line for as many factories i need.
Thanks for making these videos. I am a new player and following your tutorial step by step and so far keeping up. I will note that I look back at all the stuff I build and have no idea how I did it.. lol
That is a really nice steel setup b.t.w. I've just been using two smelting arrays, one feeding into the other, it gets the job done but it's not pretty
your smelters that are closest to the wall assembler at 27:35 are not working because of the oversaturation of farther side of the belt. To fix this you could run a splitter on the end of the smelter line and connect both outputs to a single belt to relief the load to another side of the belt, and make another fast inserter to maximize crafting speed in the setup you work on Also at around 29:35 when you pop up your inventory i noticed you have assembler II units that you can handcraft, any reason you don't do this immidietaly?
Really like these videos even though I have 700 hrs in Factorio they are nice to watch. I like that you start quite small and slowly build up. With military science I usually build a few extra machines of red ammo and grenades so I always have a stack of the overflow in boxes after the science 🙂👍
With grenades you don't even need overproduction. You don't need that many, so you can just put someone in boxes when military science isn't running (which is quite often)
Question: I have enemies off in my freeplay. Do I need to make any progress in military products and research? Are they used in any other things in future and in any other researchs?
So you seem to have a totally clear piece of ground to work with. I have loads of un minable rocks in my way so I can't run my bus like you do. how do i get round this
Seems like you are referring to cliffs. There is a way to destroy them later on, called Cliff Explosives. Alternatively you could restart your map and turn them off in the map generation settings. Or try to build around them in your current map.
These tutorials are awesomely useful - thank you very much for going to the trouble of making them! Out of interest, is there a quick way of dumping a stack of say 50 items out of your inventory? For example, I ended up with about 300 coal and dropping it unit at a time is kind of zzzzzzzzz....
I'm so happy to hear you enjoy them and find the info useful! I'm have a great time making them and really appreciate all the support. :) As S Black said, you can Ctrl-Left Click to move a large amount at once into a machine or a box. If you're trying to drop them on a belt though, unfortunately you have to do it one at a time. So if you want the items back on a belt, the best bet is to put them all in a chest with the hotkey mentioned above, and then have an Inserter place them back onto a belt.
@@andrewherd386 Dropping trash into boxes is perfectly normal. Set down a row or two as boxes to store trash. Later on you get robots and chests that can automatically move those into the right boxes and recycle them into the system. That requires yellow science however. Recycling plates or ore for examples can be easily done by inserting stuff onto a short stretch of belt, merging with a splitter and giving that belt priority

Wondering if you'll realize you disconnected the green circuits from inserter production. 33:12 you almost stood on top of the missing belt.
I am so glad you pointed that out. I doubt he even realized that it was disconnected. I was wondering when he would fix it. But he never did. Maybe he will next episode?

I like that you explain the ratios for builds. Makes more sense when you see factory layouts and wonder why they came up with that.

Yup good calls there! I'll likely take the extra from the end of the ammo line after science for my personal use and maybe in some turrets.
Thanks for keeping these coming!
My pleasure!

Great timing I needed a reason to avoid setting up oil. Thanks :D
Ahaha happy to help with the avoidance. I know the feeling. Guess we'll struggle through it together over the next few episodes. :)

i probably missed it, but what is the key to pull up your elecricity usage interface?

S Black Yeah, that is quite true. At first it feels like they build up quite slowly, but later on they pile up very easily.

Shift-left click to move a whole stack. Ctrl-left click to move a type
Check the wiki for "keyboard bindings". There are hotkeys for everything

Okay, so it is drop into a box or a use as fuel, but you can’t just drop 50 items on the ground at once? I just need to learn to plan better....

is there a way i can lock the alt thing that shows info about stuff because i alt+tab a lot
Your best bet is probably to rebind the hotkey from ALT, to something else that you don't hit otherwise.
