- DIIV is a shoegaze post-punk band from the US, and ever since their first record came out in 2012, they have been one of the most exciting bands around. The follow-up, 2016's "Is The Is Are", was an even better record - and their live performances are absolutely amazing. Now, in 2019, the third LP "Deceiver" is out and we've met the band in Berlin to record a beautiful version of "Between Tides" in Berlin, Germany.

Cardinal Sessions was founded in the summer of 2010. They challenge the classic music video and try to replace impersonal footage with immediate and emotional snapshots.
Bands from all over the world with their different genres present their songs reduced to the essence of the musical spectrum - only vocals and unplugged instruments. Due to the spontaneous live-aspect and the approach to record every song without any additional rehearsal, songs emerge that often sound significantly different to their album versions.
We film on locations that the musicians mostly choose by themselves: remote places, frequented streets, parks, woods, fields, bars; nothing is impossible. We have accomplished our goal if the location fits well to the background of the music we and the artists want to present. But our most important purpose is that there are no borders: we film everything that we like, no matter how popular, famous or also unknown a band might be. It is still important for us to support local talents and it will always stay part of our concept.
The Cardinal Sessions team can also be booked: for example to film short documentaries of album recordings, studio recordings or live concert moments that you want to capture.

I think it's about life and how life is an ocean and we're just people and it's impossible to drink the entire ocean without dying, it's impossible to enjoy life to the "maximum". So it's up to you to know what you want to make of it. Since you can't drink the ocean, so better build a boat to snow on it and not be afraid of the storm, otherwise you'll never leave the place and just watch the chaos to your death. [You can't drink the ocean, so you're better off surfing it than trying to stop it from flooding you]
Really like that analysis. I personally resonate with "how to drink the oceans up, best start with a cup". To me it represents the start to a long journey, whether it be from something terrible or to something better. Only way is to start small and build from there.
And with Coles addiction background, it makes sense. Addiction is one hell of a mountain to climb

I like the beginning of this song then it quickly puts me to sleep. I’d hope for a pick up somewhere like they did to dopamine.
After listening to under the sun and healthy moon acoustic versions, this really leaves something to be desired. New diiv is quite drab.

I can’t get into the new album at all. Sounds like a totally different band.
It happens everytime, bands change, I mean, I miss the Oshin era too, but this album it's amazing, quite hard to listen the first time 'cause it's completely different from Oshin or Is the Is are, kinda heavy, MBV style, but that's music, it's always changing
