Just saw it today up in Westwood in 70MM. The best coming of age love story I’ve seen in years. Paul Thomas Anderson has given us his most tender, funny, and humane film. I’ve never felt this unburdened watching a movie of his. I also really loved the characters and cared about them. And I had a smile on my face as the credits rolled. It’s been a long time since a new movie made me feel this good. Licorice Pizza is why I love cinema. I felt bummed exiting the theater into the real world.
I love PTA films and this may be me being prisoner of the moment but Licorice Pizza was my most enjoyable film of the year and in his filmography, which is saying alot for me, given he has several alltime favorites of mine. Alana and Cooper were both so natural, magnetic and captivating.
Yet another fantastic Q&A with Paul and Alana. Got an early screening in ATL a few weeks back. Can't wait to see this again and once it reaches a wide release.
@@estebanmejia3473 My opinion of PTA movies ranked would be (descending order): Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Licorice Pizza, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread, The Master, Inherent Vice, and Hard Eight.
I got into scriptwriting because of PTA. I’m working on my first full script beats right now. My scriptwriting teacher said if I execute the plot properly she could see a studio making an offer on it. When it is finished I am going to send it to PTA, it’s a long shot but I would give him it for free if he ever was willing to Direct someone else’s Work

@@NASkeywest Touche. You making a lot of assumptions though. I'ma writer too but yeah. PTA standards seem hard to reach with a first script is all. But I guess I don't have a New York Times teacher.

Is it just me but sometimes Alana Haim can off just a little tiny bit rude like Justin Chang's questions are interesting but with some of her answers it's like her responses come across like "did you really just ask me that question" the question Justin put to her about her always feeling like a side character in the music videos PTA directed her in, then transitioning to the lead in one of his films what was it like to be directed as a lead in a feature film her response "He's the best what are you talking about" i don't know i guess that is her humor and am reading it wrong lol.
She’s joking. If you know them you’ll realize that’s just how her and her sisters talk. They’re very jokey and not overt serious. But they’re SUPER nice.
@@amberfoster170 I Did say at the end of my comment that i guess that is her humor and i am reading it wrong which i realize i was, not really seen any interviews with her and her sisters but looking forward to seeing the movie.....
Yeah I kinda get what you mean. I think she's nervous and just saying the first and easiest thing not realizing that it comes off bad. I don't really like how worshipy she has been sounding about PTA in these interviews and how she has been making negative references about the band, even though she is trying to be funny. Stardom might be getting to her head lol
I love PTA films but this was such a disappointment . The trailer is so much more entertaining that the 2 plus hours of this meandering (not even in a good way) movie. Hoffman and Haim are decent actors but other than Alana, there is little depth to any characters. Penn, Cooper and Waits make cameo's but their scenes could have been cut. It's as if they asked PTA if they could be in his next movie and he did them a favor and squeezed them in. I did enjoy looking at the film as a child who grew up in socal in the 80s. Oh yeah, Alana is 25 and Gary is 15 so theirs that aspect to it all. Save your money.

I saw it at Westwood as well! What a great audience too. Everyone was so pumped to be seeing a new Paul Thomas Anderson movie
No one captures that magical human feeling like PTA does
I didn’t want it to end. I came out of the theater so excited about life.
Yup. I saw it today. I miss the movie.
Agreed!
Watched it yesterday. Good film. Alana and her family were great. That truck scene was badass.

In what place would you rank this movie among PTA's other movies?

I love smart people
Where did this Q&A/conversation take place?
At the Hollywood Legion Theater in Los Angeles.
No questions about Sam Harpoon?? Damn...
Who is the moderator? Is that Justin Chang?
Yes.
PTA looks so hot in this
This "Chat show" format works well
1. Boogie Nights 2. There Will Be Blood. 3. Licorice Pizza.

Should have forgot your idea for this movie.
