I hope this reunion helps them (Omar and Cedric) realize that The Mars Volta needs to be brought back to life.
Those 2 guys are the only members of TMV, so this is TMV just under a different name. They never referred to the other guys as actual TMV members, it was always only listed in their albums as TMV is Cedric and Omar, thats it, with "the mars volta group".
t rex Yes they did. Omar referred to them as being "The Mars Volta Group", meaning they were official members in the live sense, and the live improvisation proved they each had something to offer. But I know what you're saying. There's nothing wrong with what Juan Carlos said though, what he means by bringing TMV back is bringing back the TMV we all know, love and adore.
William Ledford Right, but "The Mars Volta Group" was never a definite set of members (not even Ikey Owens), it was a term used to succinctly describe whoever was playing with Cedric and Omar in the studio or on the stage at that moment. By that logic, Antemasque is "The Mars Volta" with Flea as a member of "The Mars Volta Group."

im blown away by this. im so happy theyre working on a new project together. loved ATDI, loved mars volta. and by the sounds of this, will love this. keep it up.
though, i do miss mars volta, by far my favorite band of all time.
FYI there are only 2 members of TMV. Look at the liner notes in all of their albums. The other guys are just studio musicians and can be easily replaced as we found out with the drummers. So this is TMV just under a different name.
t rex There are two members who write all the music. The rest perform them and add their own thing to it live and help bring it to life. In the liner notes even Omar makes sure to regard the rest as being the "Mars Volta Group". If the musicians they've had since 2003 amounted to nothing more than "studio musicians" then I'm sure Omar wouldn't have bothered to consider them part of the group or even keep them, since you make them sound so disposable. In a way you're disrespecting the effort of the musicians who have contributed since the first album, whom I consider to be what helps make the band so memorable live and gives them mesh and personality. That's just not cool.
t rex yes, i know this. but usually with omar, new band name, new sound. i know the two core mars volta members are there, but i dont expect this to sound like the mars volta, or expect it to turn INTO the mars volta. I guess i should have worded it as "i miss the mars voltas SOUND"... but... anything omar and cedric do is cool by me.
This is fucking wonderful. I hope this is a thing for a while. If not, I'd still love to see the actual TMV group back together for a tour.

tonyAJ420 Yeah when he was singing lower. Now hes in his late 30s trying to sing high again and listen to his voice here, hes really straining and just sounds old. He really should just keep singing lower. Hes singing outside of his range here and it sounds like a disaster.
