  • Installation of a 1" thick A36 "buttering bar" on the teeth of an excavator bucket. The teeth are heat treated so a preheat and interpass was required (I'm assuming to be safe) to prevent toe cracks in the HAZ and/or delayed hydrogen cracking. Spray transfer MIG was used with 0.045" E70S-6 wire and 98/2 Ar/02 gas. The teeth and bar, which had already been hardfaced using Lincoln metal-core hardfacing wire, were preheated to 300 degreed F and kept between 200 and 300 during the welding process. An interbead cooling temp of 300 degrees max (interpass) was maintained throughout the process.
