Seriously, after watching these live videos, I can't just listen to the song. They don't miss a beat. This is perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Steven Wilson!!!!!!! Every song I feel he has written to me!!!!!!!!
WOW, this is the first time I've heard this one and I can't seem to stop the tears from running down my face. Beautiful and emotive and those lyrics deeply sad but true. Seriously, is there anything Steven Wilson CAN'T do? Most underrated band of all time!!! If these guys were around in the 70s, we'd be asking "Pink who?"
Very good point Jesper, I agree. Don't get me wrong, I totally love Floyd, worship them actually, and up until I started listening to PT, they were my favorite band. There's just something about PT that calls to me even more than Floyd, almost like Steven Wilson has created "my" music, the sound I've been looking for my entire life. I know I was exaggerating quite a bit in my comment above but it's just because I'd really love to see these guys get the recognition they deserve.
Marco Biasone, there are some songs that Wilson plays that are very Floydian. Check out some of his earlier works from the 90s like The Sky Moves Sideways or Voyage 34.
Hey! Whatta know another Yes lover! I've listened to these guys for about a month now. I'm most impressed with the backing vocal guys harmony. Wilson is good But the guy behind him makes it sound killer!! Cheerio!
Those lyrics... Story of my life.. I hate growing up... When around the age of 20-22 it just feels fucked up to suddenly face all these responsibilities and things such as work and bills...
right hand plays the chords in dotted eight notes which gives a rhythmical pattern that repeats every 3 bars. chords change every bar and everything is 4/4
'Normal' is a completely different song from the "Nil Recurring" album, but it is like a continuation of this song 'Sentimental' from the "Fear Of a Blank Planet" album. I think both albums should have been combined, and made into 1 longer album! I hope this helped?
actually, not exactly. Normal was written first, but (if i remember correctly) it was way too similar to the other songs on FoaBP, and he wanted something more "poppy", so he took the strong chorus and build another song from that, and that became sentimental.
I actually play by feel so odd time signatures kill me too. I believe it is 7/4 because when I count 5/4 in my head and listen I get lost. What I can say with certainty is the top number will be bigger than the bottom number. I have a link to send you but you can just punch in "7/4 time signature" and you'll find drummers playing it.
This singer is a god. Nobody else is able to sing and play piano with two different rythmes.
Very good music + very good groove of Gavin Harrison , great drummer !
Bloody, fucking, utterly amazing drummer you mean.

ha ha
Whoever got that shot of Barbieri with the keys reflected in his glasses--god damn. That was intense.

i LOVE how they incorporate the melody from Trains near the end! Never noticed it before. Wicked

I agree that Porcupine Tree is an underrated band, but without bands as Pink Floyd progressive music wouldn't be where it is now!

***** I am still trying to figure out if Gilmour is god or if Wilson is. If Wilson would play the guitar as Gilmour, he would definetely be god.

Yes, I have. I was refering to how well they play the guitar, not the style itself.
i hope i could still watch them performing live
Steven Wilson is a god. And nothing will change this. #fact

Epic..
Эта группа не для всех. Не для толпы. Уважаю тех людей, кто прочувствовал. Они будут любить её всегда.
great song and great live :)
Those lyrics... Story of my life.. I hate growing up... When around the age of 20-22 it just feels fucked up to suddenly face all these responsibilities and things such as work and bills...
Trains, Normal, and Sentimental all stem from the same musical idea. Listen to them back to back... it's pretty wild :)
:'( :'( :'( This song makes me cry every Fucking Time!!
nam nai setimental 🤣

So perfect, goddamn.
That's how we know him. That's how we love him.
goosebumps
Prog On for eternity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only Porcupine Tree can make the live version of a song 10 times better than the album one.
I don't want to stop listening.....It's no fun to be told that i have only 5:07 minutes ...
I know !! when I first got the album I almost cried, it's the same but it feels so different.
Thanks man. Yes the intro is pretty tricky to catch.
Ooh, it does!!
as said creator has the master piece .after hearing the song porcupine tree are the creator.!!
Mortaaaaaaaal!
It has trains in it, plus the "sullen and bored the kids stay" part comes in the song Normal also. :\
Stupenda .
EPIC
Amen
I love Steven Wilson!
so deep
I think so too.

IDK how i got here from heavy metal music i was listening to, but I'm pleased.
Best band since Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Yes, etc.
best part of the song :)
they did that because way out of here, which is the next track on the record, begins with lyrics about train tracks.
Man, that's like 'London'. It comes in Recordings II, it's the demo version of Don't hate me
'Normal' is a completely different song from the "Nil Recurring" album, but it is like a continuation of this song 'Sentimental' from the "Fear Of a Blank Planet" album. I think both albums should have been combined, and made into 1 longer album!
I hope this helped?
The strumming is the same as the one used in Trains, yes. But the chords are different..
Phew! so i am not the only one.
I just realized the connection between this song and "Normal"...
that's right.
fuckin genius
All hail the Progfather
actually, not exactly. Normal was written first, but (if i remember correctly) it was way too similar to the other songs on FoaBP, and he wanted something more "poppy", so he took the strong chorus and build another song from that, and that became sentimental.
Simpy divine!
The intro alternates between 9/8 and 15/16 a lot. The rest is in 4/4.
it's 5/4. The 5/4 keysboard part in Yes' Long Distance Runaround is a good comparison.
Reminds me of Normal.
Never wanna be old
And i don't want dependence
it's no fun to be told
NIEZWYKŁE...
You really think the song can't get better and then that "Trains chord progression" kicks in... Holy fuck.
Can anyone tell me on what time signature are these guys playing?
Cuz it is. The chorus, for an example. :D
Normal was written first :) Then Steven wrote Sentimental and used that on FOABP
So I'm confused, did this song come before Normal, or is Normal a completely seperate song altogether that just ties in with this one?

Extra ordinarymental
Yes, that part has always sounded like trains.
According to a tab I found it alternates between 9/8 and 15/16.
wrong, the whole song can easily be felt in 4/4. no need to overcomplicate. trust me, i'm a drummer
@@coastallights6939 In the intro there it switches once between 5 and 6
If his songs were people i would marry them all
wtf is the time signature in the intro keyboard bit?
5/8 and 6/8.
No youtube, I dont want a shitty Holden Cruze that will likely fall apart shortly after driving it from the dealership, I want Porcupine Tree..
It's the same rhythm as in Trains.
yeah, right??
4:00 Trains!
me recuerda cuando tenia 16 años
4:00
It sounds like Trains.
