Pray to avoid a raid by the torturers and hope to make enough to find a planet to live on that's deemed a waste of time to the Tyranids and remote to avoid any of the major races. 40K is an amazing universe but fuck living in it.

      Hell no, Tau are just as bad as everyone else. They use their people as cannon fodder due to their weakness, the ethereals view EVERY race even their own as below them and don't get me started on how they used to treat the kroot before the whiney uni student level complaining started... they are intergalactic communists, nothing more lol If you want the ONLY good group in warhammer? Then go with ork.... think about it lol Orks are honest, they like no one equally, orks are single minded, orks love fighting, that's it. They are technically the ONLY "good" race in warhammer because of this XD honesty, they are ALWAYS honest, and if you gain an ork's respect then they will start smashing what is smashing YOU if only because they know it's gonna be an even BETTER fight lol Vote ork for a gloriously WAAAAAAAGH'y future.

  • @lelanderickson1045
    @lelanderickson1045 11 месяцев назад +38

    Historian's perspective: The Tau are a *young* empire; they can only go up from there, whereas the Imperium of Mankind is akin to the later Roman Empire during the reign of some of the rather less capable emperors. Unless an external force manages to dictate otherwise, the Tau are going to expand until their ability to control and govern what they conquer reaches its limits (which will be heavily influenced by their technology).

    • @HelSeher
      @HelSeher 11 месяцев назад +4

      The issue I see for the Tau is that keeping up the universal high standard of living that is the main selling point of their empire will be more and more difficult as they expand and are spread ever more thinly across the galaxy with new frobts opening up everywhere. I can see them becoming far more like the imperium when it comes to social repression and societal stratification.😊

    • @lelanderickson1045
      @lelanderickson1045 11 месяцев назад +3

      Maybe. But that high standard of living may also prove to be a powerful psychological motivator for Tau society as a whole (ie., if everyone knows what they stand to lose if they fail, they will be very highly motivated not to fail). Further, the Tau are as a rough rule of thumb obsessed with efficiency when it comes to using resources, which may very well mitigate the pressure of demand imposed by a wartime socio-economic paradigm. Whichever way it runs this will be an interesting tale to follow. 😏@@HelSeher

      The T'au also benefit from the Imperium, the primary Empire that could threaten their expansion, being heavily preoccupied with other, greater challenges and thus being incapable of focusing the majority of their resources on crushing them. The T'au as a whole have a percent of the combined military forces of the Imperium, and if the Imperium could focus its resources on them, they wouldn't stand a chance. But the Imperium is not only facing threats greater than the T'au, but even threats that are militarily far more powerful than the Imperium.
      Tyranids are the primary example of that. There's not much point devoting resources to dealing with the T'au when there's a flood of sentient bug ships invading that outnumber all the races of the Galaxy combined.

    • @lelanderickson1045
      @lelanderickson1045 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Jenn-lq9yu and in order to survive such a galaxy-wide invasion, if the Imperium of Man along with every other sentient race in the galaxy is to survive, it has to be all hands on deck. Like the Japanese during the Mongol invasions, all the old rivalries need to be forgotten, the old grievances set aside in order to present a united front against the existential threat posed by the Tyranids (and to a relatively lesser extent, the threat of Chaos and the threat of the Necrons).

    I love the tau because they show how grim dark the 40K universe actually is! When you compare them to the rest of the universe you actually appreciate the grim dark nature of it. The tau are refreshing. Without the tau it’s just:
    “What’s that games workshop? Another xeno race that’s bent on destroying everyone else? cool…and how are they different from all the other grim dark races? …there not you just wanted to sell more models…ok gotcha…” 😂

  • @runcmd1419

    Another aspect pointed out by Bricky is that lots of Tau’s major tech advancements come from client races (operative word client, not ally). Like ion weapons of the demiurg and targetting systems of the vespids.
    Tau diplomacy was originally modelled on nato / western style interactions. Where joining the larger power grants you protection, but the bigger power gains more through strategic positioning, resource or trade access, market access, and in the Tau’s case access to new technologies. Vespids go from being angry and hard to control to order followers after the Tau give them translation/ communication headsets.
    Humanity’s bond is by blood and history, Tau is a strategic partnership for the greater good, which is defined by the will of the Ethereals, not the people.

    A large amount of hate towards the Tau race also came about back in the day with a tactic using the devilfish transport, where you would position two devilfish tips end to end to form a V shape and have a bunch of your powerful range units sitting in the center. They were classed as skimmers and at the time hitting one in close combat was very hard and they were large enough that trying to get into melee with their powerful ranged units was far too hard to do. It was so bad that I believe the rules got changed really quickly to fix this broken strat, but it soured a lot of players view of the race and people who played them, which then became a bit of a meme to hate the faction as a whole.

      There are many things I like about the Tau.
      1 - they know how their technology works
      2 - They are making their history
      3 - Their education. This might sound weird but a well educated society is something I like.
      What I do not like about the Tau.
      1 - They are a hive of ants. Each individual is built for a specific role and they are dissuaded from moving out of said role.
      2 - they think "The greater good" is the best thing in the universe.
      3 - they are innocent
      I personally think the Tau is the logical evolution for any species to survive in a reality where the Warp exists. If there is a nightmareish dimension where the demons can find you simply because you have a soul. Having a soul with very little presence in the warp is a good way to slip past the demon's notice. The Warp is the cause of many problems and the Tau have an innate survival mechanism that allows them to be ignored by the denseness of the warp.
      This also explains why Demons and the like are legends.

    Never played the Tabeltop so no comment on that perspective, but coming from my knowledge from video games and the few books I've read I genuinely can't see why they are as hated as they are, "They don't fit in because they are good" Yeah and I suppose the 1st Eldar, Humans and even the Necrons started off being evil galactic dickheads when they 1st ventured out into space (you need to have had a golden age to fall from it) which leads to my next point "they don't fit because they didn't fall from a golden age" Time didn't stop in the 40k universe, it may feel that way because tech doesn't seem to evolve, but each faction has very specific reasons for their lack of innovation, but due to time still being a thing that exists new civilizations are bound to pop up from time to time, the Tau are in the rising phase of their civilization which is preceding their eventual golden age and their inevitable fall from that golden age
    Even though the Tau are far from my favorite faction in the setting in my mind they fit perfectly within it as a new upstart civilization taking it's 1st steps in a hostile galaxy

      The key word there was renegade.
      Renegades going against the order of things, that is the point.
      I, personally, dislike the 'imperium choir boys' when they try to claim that a Space Marine wouldn't defect to the Tau. They want their chosen faction to be pure, angelic, and the very idea that they might still have some 'humanity' left in them is just... well, fanboys just can't stomach the idea of their faction being anything less then divine. Falling to Chaos is allowed, that is still religious after all, but falling to... human empathy... heaven forbid!
      It is the Empirical Cult for a reason.

    The Greater Good is interesting to me, however... what is it?
    In other series, such as the Culture by Ian M. Banks, this concept is better explored. There is a group of powerful A.I. that have calculated a numerical value for 'happiness' and decided it will be their guiding force. This use of math to justify... anything... doesn't make them the good guys but it does make them so admirable that people forget they are not the good guys.
    Tau feel a shallow version of that, but I see where it could go.
    As for the mystery of the Ethereal though:
    I view them as the survivor of a previous empire, trying to rebuild without revealing whom they really are. Not saying they are a major player from the past though, so many names have come and gone with little depth to them and it is better if they where one such name. It makes them a little more tragic, they have tried the greater good before, again and again.

    • @fireteamomega2343
      @fireteamomega2343 3 месяца назад

      The entire idea is based off mills theory of utilitarian value. Although it might seem logical it has it's paradoxes mainly in perspective. For example if we had to kill a thousand people to save ten thousand we might consider by numbers that it is the greatest good. However that is entirely dependent on how you view the individual capabilities and potential of each individual or rather that you don't. In effect there may be individuals within that first thousand that have capabilities far exceeding the other ten thousand. And they may by causation survive otherwise if left alone and bring about greater or multiplying benefits. It might not be savory for people to consider one life being more valuable than another. But in the scheme of achieving results it is whether it be used for whatever perspective purposes.

    no seriously once they have wiped out The Imperium and converted any smart enough to be on the winning side, Chaos will cease to be and they'll probably weaponise the Orks similar to the Kroot and then they'll start dealing with any Eldar or Tyranids that show up. Tau already have the most advanced weapons and fire power. The problem is just their numbers and naive generosity toward every single race hell even the necrons they tried to extend peace to lol. They actually almost reached light speed. But they're still working on it unfortunately. And currently they actually do hold stalemate against most imperium forces currently because they are smarter with their resources and gear. Plus not to mention they're way better at utilizing allies and tactics. Where as the imperium just throws numbers at everything until something sticks. Tau don't do that because they realize how useless that method is. Plus eldari actually needed to ally with Tau because the Tau actually hold their own against tyranids. Not a crushing victory but hey the fact they can hold their own to begin with lmfao. Also mech suits give astartes a run for their money every time guaranteed. Dreadnought also get clowned on by current x model suits.
