I'm in the process of restoring a PolySix right now for this exact reason. I too am putting a KiwiSix board in, as well as their power supply. The horrible particle board cheeks on mine are destroyed, so I bought a handmade solid walnut replacement case from a craftsman who sells them on Reverb. It's beautiful!
The PolySix was the very first synthesizer I bought way back in 1986, I can't wait to have this one working again!

The Polysix was the first synth I ever remember playing around with back in 97-98 when I was around 14. Sadly, it fell victim to the infamous battery leakage, and back then, it would've cost more money to fix than the synth was worth. Wish I still had one now.

  • @dalecsaunders

My experience with the Poly6 was that I loved the instrument but there were three drawbacks. First: was that dirt and grime got inside the little rubber cups that held the contact pieces that completed the circuit for the key bed; (no such thing as cigarette smoke restrictions in clubs and studios during that era). I was advised to avoid using alcohol for cleaning. I am wondering if the KIWI mod solved the second. Every unit that I tried had the opposite of 'stretch tuning' in that the lowest note sounded slightly sharp and the highest note being slightly flat in apparent pitch. Any service tech that I asked this about told me it was not possible to calibrate a correction (similarly to how you could tweak the tuning of a Minimoog). The KIWI has dealt with the third issue being the lack of (at that time) the newly arrived MIDI feature. Ultimately I got a Juno 106, gave the Poly6 to my brother who rarely used it and sure enough the battery leaked on the innards and yes the voice chips on the Roland eventually caused me grief. Absolutely enjoy your productions, both the video presentations and the engineering projects you entertainingly reveal. Kudos!

    Sir...SIR. Consider this:
My Alma Mater is Antioch College (v1.0), the very same as that of one Rod Serling, where I was educated in (among other things) Serialism and Analogue Modular Synthesis techniques on an original ARP 2600 (under the tutelage of Maestro John Rinehart), so the opening 58 seconds of this video were more than a little surreal!

i have now seen nearly all vids in your channel. I can see you focus mainly on old school synths of 70's and 80's. In that era i make request to make story about toys that are still in use in some genres like 808, 909, 303.
I also saw glimplse of roland jp-8000 one of your storages. This synth changed trance/ "edm" scene late 90's and that legendary supersaw sound still dominates radio and dance floors.

Had the battery issue with a Poly 61 a few years back , absolute nightmare to sort as the only available schematics were sketchy to say the least , in the end i had to take a chance on a different board Rev to mine (that was actually readable in the service manual) as having the same traces around the battery and connectors , i had to run jumper wires on the underside of the board to re-establish connections etc etc , but i got there in the end phew !! ...
