Hi Jegs! Thanks for testing these cards. I hate to ask, but did you make sure to update the drivers before you did this test? This particular video has problems I haven't seen in any of your other tests. Both cards underperformed, especially in the 1% Lows, in The Last of Us, Hogwarts Legacy, and Starfield at 1080p. Thank you for your diligent efforts.

I have an Omen pre-built (Omen 25L), and I have been considering the RX 7800 XT to replace the RTX 3050 in it. This video is honestly a godsend because the CPU it has in it is i5 12400f. Though I do need to get a better PSU because of the GPU, I love these results for 1440p otherwise. But can anyone let me know their thoughts on if going through with this is a good idea?
A used 6800xt is same performance. If you’re buying new, get the 7800
i have this exact same combo 12400f 7800xt, get a 750+w psu, other than that you are set.
People in the comments getting heated over which is better. Practically identical. I'm keeping my 6800xt for now until I can make a bigger jump for PCVR. I think it should come down to which card you can get for cheaper. We're splitting hairs here. If raw raster power is important, AMD is hard to beat right now. If you want DLSS for 4K or Raytracing, go with Nvidia. But frankly, outside of 2077 and maybe AW2. RT isn't a gamechanger yet. Things wont move much on the GPU market until the 4090 get's dethroned. 4080super sounds promising. We'll see.
I too have a RX 6800 XT and I got it for just 300€ I wont be getting a new GPU for years.

for someone level in a hot envrionement as myself, I guess the cool temperature of almost always 5c degree on 7800 is worth it, especially of how quitter it seems.

Question my son has a i5 12400f, i wanted to upgrade his gpu to a 7700xt, but PC builder saying its a bottlebeck. So i looked for the gpu under it which is the 6800 non xt.

The RX6800 and RX7800 are both being bottle necked by the i5 at 1080 the 7800 is definitely a better card at 1440 or 4k and especially when using raytracing I own both

Yup the 7800 xt should be the 7700 xt. Price to performance though it's good. I purchased the nitro + and put an OC on it to squeeze another 22 FPS out of it.

7800xt is replacement for 6700xt very bad naming scheme from amd 🥴
actually the 7800xt shows the entire power draw of the card, meanwhile the 6800xt only the chipset, meaning in reality, the 6800xt has an additional of atleast 30 to 50 or more TDP
The rx 6800xt only show core draw so you can add at least 30watt for all the PCB
7800 xt costs 500$ 6800 xt 650$

La rx7800xt sin dudarlo, si bien parecen de rendimiento similar las rx7000 tienen de su lado antilag+ y Hypr-rx tecnologías exclusivas de esta generación, también tienen el AFMF como debió ser y no el beta qué tenemos para las 6000.
Ademas es muy probable que las rx7000 reciban tecnologías qué pudieran llegar con las rx8000 cosa que las rx6000 no verán al igual como esta pasando ahora con el AFMF qué llego para las 7000 y poco después para las 6000, las 5000 qué no verán la luz para el AFMF.
Te recomiendo que en tu caso te vayas por la rx7800xt parecen similares pero su potencia es similar por que tiene 12CU menos que la rx6800xt pero se empareja por ser de mejor arquitectura además de codecs mejores y rtx de una generación mayor

does i5 12400f and rx6800xt have any bottleneck in 1080p in games like rdr2 , cyberpunk , last of us , horizon zero dawn etc .
So far, I've only tested The Last of Us and it has a huge cpu bottleneck even on 1440p. My fps would drop to low 50s all the way from 90

Guys AMD and Nvidia does the same one good series one refreshed and so on..
In this case you have a slight bottleneck on 1080p for 7800xt that's why you see sometimes lower performance. Your processor îs nor fasst enough foe 7800xt .. that's why in 1440p when gpu it performs a little better with lowwr power draw.

@@alihaji8856 you should still have high fps on this setup even with a bottleneck. But if your main concern is maxing out the GPU usage on 1080p, Upgrade your 12400f.

why am I only getting 165-200 fps with a 6800xt and a ryzen 5 5600x... no way the cpu difference would make the fps doubled
If your gpu is at 99%, its cpu.
If not, its the gpu.

in fact the brother 7800 xt is a new version of the 6700 xt! you need to understand that the 7900 xt is a continuation of the 6800xt, but the 7900xtx is a continuation of the 6900 xt. That's what Amd came up with. are you comparing video cards of different levels? For what ?
The fact AMD didn’t name the 7800XT simply "7800" is a miss.
You have basically the same physical units as the 6800, with for the level of performances of the 6800 XT and also the price.
It being called 7800XT for the same performances of 6800XT make it look disappointing. Hopefully the price made it a nice card though.
The 6800XT is still the better card...and your comparing a mid tier 6800XT to a top tier 7800XT. If that was a top tier like the Strix ROG or Sapphire Pulse 6800XT, it would blow the 7800XT out of the water

Just buy 7800xt, save more power. If you look at the temperature and fan speed, you'll notice that 6800xt actually used more power than 7800xt for same performance. Your electric bill will thank you. And you should always undervolt your gpu for extra performance and optimize power and lower temperature, if you don't know how, search on RUclips for tutorial.

if it was three months ago, id say go for it, especially if you have a 5000xt series AMD below or 20 series nvdia or didnt have a rig at all before, but id wait atleast 2 more weeks to see if the nvidia super series, especially the 4070 Super can be on par with this 7800xt

What a disappointment the 7800 turned out to be.
Looks like someone needs to upgrade there cpu,its holding back the gpu performance,unless u have it synced to a 60hz monitor showing low fps. Theres no way a rx 6800 xt is that low as i have 1 and at ultra settings 1440p im always around 120fps and more with a ryzen 9 5900x
