I wish they had left this in, it's a pretty important display of a change in Victor's thoughts, and I really like the idea of both Victor and Emily each having a song that plays off the little piano tune they play together
I get it, this song sounds a bit rough. In comparison to Tears to Shed which is a masterpiece! Buuut this song added to the story. Now it makes sense why he decided to leave his life behind fully and just die to marry Emily. He doubted whether his place was upstairs at all.
its a crime they didnt include this song. such an important shift in character and show of victor's realizations. i can just imagine how lovely the scene would have been for it too. a lot of people compare it to sounding like jack's lament and i agree. it's a shame they cut it out
this song was just what we needed to get into the scene of him saying he would take the poison. you know what I'm taking this precious piece of character development as cannon and also my favorite song of the movie
While I have always felt that the glimpse of him, devastated and despondent at Victoria's marriage, and his delivery of the line, "I'm too late," provides essentially the same information as this song does-- it _would_ still make the transition to his decision to stay with Emily less abrupt.
I agree! It makes much more sense while he did the quick flip and was willing to die for Emily. This really gives motive to that that I think is lacking without it

I really like this song, I wish it was in the movie. I do see why they didn’t add it. Time still moves in the movie when the songs r going on. And it adds to Emily’s shock and confusion when he says yes. When I was little I hated victor because I saw him as a pushover that didn’t really like Emily, like she was just there and the second option. Over time I have realized that he was confused and terrified to his limits. Thruout the movie he does try to stand up, but at the end of the movie he’s finally found his voice. And Emily is very outgoing, that’s one of the reasons I love her. She is also nieve and is holding onto her rose colored glasses. Thruout the movie she sees cracks and sees “I was a bride once, my dreams were taken from me. And now I’m taking them from someone else” she’s talking about both victor and Victoria, since those two have been trying to get to each other this entire time
A beautiful song, it is such a shame that this was scrapped in the final product. But, it's understandable! While watching this I realised that it's an almost seemless a loop!

I was today years old when I found out this song excited. The entire time I have been so confused about his last minute decision to drop Victoria for Emily that I just assumed the only explanation was that he didn't actually love either one. and that he just saw himself as a victim of circumstance and was only telling himself he loved either one because he was just accepting his new reality because of circumstances. Like "I tried to be with Victoria, but then the Emily dragged me away so I guess I'll just be here now 🤷🏻♂️"
He made that decision _because he was "Too Late"._ Victoria was married to someone else, he had no further hope of marrying her himself, nothing left for him to get back for; so he might as well stay and try to bring Emily some happiness. It's there in the movie, if you watch his response to Mayhew's news (especially during and just after the wedding itself); but this song would definitely have helped clarify it.
Now, while i really really do with Victor had a song (They robed THE Sweeny Todd)…..however….This song really (in my eyes) does not work well for Victor. The slow and mundame rythem seems like something hed sing in the serface world, but not down there in the alive death world. The song doesnt tell us anything that we dont already know, and (heh, if anythung) Kiiiiinda makes Victor look worse for wanting to stay with Emily…The song basically says “Well my life up there was taken from me, might as well stay with my back up wife!” when instaed, i feel the song should have been an upbeat, jazy toon that showed him the wonders of living (ironically in the underworld). Im glad they cut this specific song because I like when Victor sees how much Emily cares for him, he changes his mind from leaving to staying (vs the song, which states the only reason he is staying is because Victoria got married to someone else). 🫶
