    Today we perform a Glide Ratio and Descent Rate test on the Aventura S17 amphibious seaplane. Watch as we explain the process to determine these values and also the AOA (Angle of Attack) for best Glide Ratio.
    The WingBug Alex is referencing in this video is a portable pitot static device that attaches to the aircraft that gives true air data and creating the digital sixpack on the console mounted iPad. It also provides AOA information which was input by the pilot from a prior test flight. The AOA number Alex mentions is a reference number to make the pilot aware of the potential approach to stall. It is not a number of angle or incidence. Also... the Flight Path information is generated by the WingBug flight recording.

    Sooo....for those of us who don't know how to do the math...what would you calculate the glide ratio as?

      If we call the speed to be 58 knots then it's moving forward at about 5874 feet per minute. It seems to be losing 850 feet per minute. 850/5874 is about 0.1473 or a glide ratio of about 7 to 1. Yeah, better have a landing spot picked out, but that's about average for a dacron wing aircraft. Pretty draggy.
