      Maybe they were limited on a budget for the furniture as I don’t think that the fireplace was still the focal point. I think that the green walls limited the buyers who don’t want to paint to have a more neutral color. I do get tired of seeing so many grey walls with white kitchens in my area, just boring. Not everyone can envision a house with that green a different color and could have made it so pale that it was almost neutral to be more appealing with an accent wall.

      I would say that color often does not translate accurately on computer screens or even in some cameras so it's hard to assess those colors. It's also impossible to accurately judge distances and sizes on screen.

      There _is_ a chance they're in Canada, and "code" isn't the same.

    • @tastx3142
      @tastx3142 3 года назад +4

      Stairs are one of the areas that have the most accidents even with handrails. My father in law fell down the 2 steps from our living room to the foyer and luckily wasn’t injured but he fell down the straight run of stairs that his daughter’s house had and they took down the railing. They were very steep and even I was concerned, especially after they removed the carpet and replaced it with wood. My stairs have a landing and turn back the same way so if you fall it is a shorter distance and have railings. People need to realize that people do slip especially if they are carrying things or have physical limitations whether they are children or older adults.

      @@tastx3142 yeah. I awoke one Sunday morning to the sound of running water. It was a rusted out water heater. Some genius had stashed the water heater under completely enclosed stairs leading up to a former attic made into a room. I had to find a screwdriver, unscrew a couple of steps and reach in to turn it off. I had the new one relocated to the attached garage.

    • @tastx3142
      @tastx3142 3 года назад

      @@tonibauer2949 You can always turn it off at the curb. I had a leak under a faucet and the shut off valve had failed and couldn’t shut it off. I had several shut off valves for commodes fail so I knew where it was located outside. At my previous house a handyman working next door came and told me that I had a major water leak near the meter as water was pouring out and running down the street. He turned it off for me and had to do it by feel. Unfortunately, it happened on my side of the meter, but I bought the tool to make it easier to turn for future use. You can do it with large pliers but is easier with the special tool and isn’t expensive. Mine is probably 35-40 years old and I have used it multiple times and keep it in a handy place.

    What i am wondering is why all of these are being posted now after a decade. These designs really reflect the dull, lifeless designs of the early 2000’s and I have a hard time believing people find these remodels chic when they are bland and outdated already. The good thing about more modern designs is that instead of the de-personalized “faux-luxe” feeling people wanted 10-15 years ago, people are beginning to design around the items they already love in an eclectic way, making their homes stand the test of time. Even stagers nowadays give much more personal touches than this. I hope we never go back to this period in time Interior Design-wise.

As I am thinking about the layout, it would to me have made more sense (cost depending) to have taken down a wall so the kitchen and living are was more open plan. Surely it's quicker to remove wallpaper than put tongue and groove in over an uneven wall?

      The wall looked quite damaged behind it. We've sometimes just covered up walls instead of trying to repair them.

    The kitchen is the biggest turn off. Dated and gross, and the dining table thing needs to go

      My niece and her husband have that identical banquette and table, and it's the most miserably uncomfortable blasted thing. Just sitting on the bench for more than 3 or 4 minutes creates a terrible backache that takes all the next day to recover from, and the table is so lightweight, it slides away from the users at just a finger's touch. Now that they have a very large new house, they put the stupid thing in their basement for their son and his friends to play games on/at.

    I hate flippers with a passion. They are the ones who are pushing the cost of houses up. They are snagging up all the fixer uppers which makes it harder for first time buyers or those on a budget to own their own home.

    This series is from 2009, but even back then this particular re-do would have been hideous, bad color choices and set up.

    A house in Toronto for $279,000 sounds so cheap given that house lots are selling for a million in 2020.
