Its such a shame that there are so few hat block artists in the world. Hat making is a beautiful artform. I have such respect for milliners and hat block makers!
nice work but there is actually quite a few wooden hat block makers around the world, you'll find more than 4 quite easily if you try in the uk alone. Good blockmakers are hard to find though, the really rare blockmakers are the ones that make wood and metal blocks for both small numbers and mass production. That really is a complete blockmaking service! Boon & Lane in Luton England make both and I believe they even make wood blocks for the Queen of England as well as many top London designers.
There are far more then four, As far as locally I know of at least 3 in the UK, and I also know of 3 in the Netherlands, (where I live) and that is just in 2 countries...they are not a dime a dozen, but there are definitely more then 4 (my guess would be around the 50 - 60 mark)
La Forme and Lorenzo Re is The block maker of the best milliners around the world as Treacy,Jones,Maison Michel ,Barthet,Paulette,le Corre ,Model, Mercier, Underwood,Javits, and all the french Haute Couture houses since 1963...
Another wood hat block maker here in the USA is Joe (Joseph Rosenbaum) He sells on eBay under "millineryEzone" Go there and see some of the blocks he makes.
or was that makers of one peice, brim included blocks? I've always used a cross sectional method, with a seperate brim block *shrugs* hobbyist using home powertools... :D
I question the numbers... or do you mean make hat blocks commercially? because I make hat blocks, and don't think I was included in the count. i know one pro and several other good-quality hobbyists in australia :D
Hi Richard Goodwin, I left a comment below for you a few days ago... was wondering if you received it and have any idea how to get in touch with Lorenzo's studio in Paris or does he have a website...? Thank you, Rochelle
Lorenzo Re, this chap, told me there was one in Korea and one in Italy. I will try to dig out his number for you#as ever Richard LORENZO RE La Forme ; 15, rue Paul Lelong ; 75002 Paris ; t : 01 42 60 05 06 ; fax : 07 42 60 44 01

it really is, when a man or woman wear a hat they are Dressed. We have gotten sooooo sloppy when it comes to putting a real outfit together.
