  • I couldn't believe it when I woke up at 6:30 am to the sound of splashing outside my window in South Africa at Arathusa Lodge...nothing could have prepared me for what I was going to see - a family of African elephants drinking from my plunge pool! And don't worry there were no chemicals in the water.

That sounds like a great idea. My fear would be, though, that the elephants might decide that the property was their territory and become hostile to the humans that stay there. Still, the main reason I'd ever want to fill it would be to attract wildlife, especially elephants.

The quickest way to regrow the original vegetation in lush proportions, is to allow elephants (and other large migratory herbivores) to feed and migrate at will. Elephants are a keystone species because they deposit processed seed, enzymes and nutrients everywhere they go, far and wide. As a result, they nourish the soil, leaving germinated seed behind, enriching the land. The fastest and most effective way to regrow damaged rain forests such as in Asia, is to reintroduce elephants to those areas. They eat lightly as they migrate, depositing and thus feeding the land with what they leave behind. Every creature has a purpose on this Earth, and elephants maintain, nourish and groom such forests. When man decided to reassign elephants to other "jobs", he was unwittingly doing great damage to the land and the forests. Every species has a design-purpose when functioning according to their original design. When mankind left his own, he became corrupted, unwise, hurtful and destructive. Nothing has been the same since.

      Think for a minute.
Is it safe for the animal to drink pool water? Probably not.
Is it safe for the people to have elephants there often? Probably not.
Why would they be privileged for saying that they don't fill the pool with water and chemicals that are unsafe for the elephant?
This is the shit people are getting pissed about these days, I mean you don't even know what the fuck you are saying.
What would the word privilege have to do with someone looking out for animals and people? For fucks sake.

@monokhem As Arathusa Lodge is purposefully built for the tourist trade, it would be ecologically sustainable if they invest some of the money earned to provide a solution and to store and preserve water so that the elephants could safely drink in the dry season rather than using the said same water to fill a plunge pool for humans. Also, which is more important economically to the benefit of the country: a) using the water to fill a plunge pool - for humans or; b) having a source of water for elephants to drink, tourists (who bring revenue into the country) can go and safely observe the elephants close up.

That elephant that was last to leave looks like he had been needing that refreshing drink for a minute😂😂😂

How wonderful to have these special guests come by for a drink. I would be filling that pool up everyday hoping that they would be coming over.
