oth got picked up because the show actually feels like a SHOW. it has boring moments for sure but watching this video makes me realize the oc is more a caricature than a well-grounded show. thats why it could never go beyond high school years, the newport bubble is so so strong and annoying. even dawsons creek made it out. and stuff that happened within characters are never explored fully for them to flesh out later on, which theyre supposed to i mean theyre characters for a reason.

you're of course allowed to your opinion, but you do realize this is 4-minute video of a show that had 90+ episodes and most of the things said in it you don't even realize what they mean as a casual viewer if you are not in on the inside jokes?
there is nothing wrong with shows that feel like shows and follow the same patterns, but there is also nothing wrong with being different and more inventive and have inside jokes and not taking yourself too seriously, I think it depends on everyone's taste 🤷
and OTH might have way more seasons, but let's be honest, only hardcore fans stuck to it and even the main actors left before the show was finished... sometimes it is quality >>>> quantity
(also, most of these inside jokes in this video are from S1 and S2, which are to this day highly reviewed seasons and getting praise even 18 years later...)

@@NELLISZ1 wasnt an insut lmao i love this show like the main ships are my favs but its undeniable that the writing is a MESS. and thats the main reason why it was cancelled. im not a big fan of oth too but i can tell from writing wise theyre still better. the only main actors who left are lucas and peyton and their characters arent even good.
and sometimes its NEEDED to explore those characters esp marissa, THEY wrote her traumatic stuff, and that definitely deserved to be explored better. even seth literally died after season 2 his character was just there.
and obviously the viewers agree about the messy writing cause of season 3 you cant expect to have a full on season and write that shitty. but dawsons creek is really the good comparison to this show tbh, they have some repetitive stuff, but it balances out.

no ur so right. i only watched till s7 but from what i saw, the oth always kept the soul beneath the drama-- lucas's girl drama is rooted in his abandonment issues, peyton's revolving love interests r her 'everybody leaves,' nathan and haley's marriage was so well developed, etc etc. the oc really lost the soul behind the drama. in s1, it made sm sense. ryan has his anger issues bc hes an abuse victim, marissa's guy issues r a symptom of her mental health issues, seth's insecurity drives the summer/anna love triangle. but s2-s4? its just drama to be drama. ryan punches people to punch people, and they'll make a funny haha joke about ryan punching people, but never really dwell on it like they did in season 1.

I watched both oth and the OC and I love both shows. But between the 2 I find the oc more boring for some reason, maybe because there’s less characters? They are both still great shows
