Take notes, Maria Grazia Chiuri, this is a haute couture collection, not a dozen of tulle gowns with J'adior straps. This is beyond gorgeous. Plus: Congrats for diversity.
Johnny THANK YOU! I mean, designing a collection is never easy, but it's like Chiuri knows two patterns: a coat and a sloper dress. She's OK with embellishments, but if she ever worked with anything but tulle, her mind would be blown. I've come to the conclusion that she is incapable of experimentation. The only saving graces of this season at Dior were the Stephen Jones masks, IMHO. This Givenchy collection was a breath of fresh air in a season that is already putting me to sleep.
OMG SERIOUSLY! I thought i was the only one hating on her fascination for tulle! She is an absolute nightmare and some of her silhouettes still look like they are straight out of a Valentino catalog, shame she hasn't been able to break out of it.
The music was perfect, the set design was luxurious, the casting had diversity, the garments looked precious. This is an amazing start for Clare’s journey under the helm of a couture house. Bravo!
5:00-6:00 is really strong. The music makes me feel like I'm in a forest with a strong wind blowing my clothes allowing me to gently move along space trails. Knowing anything is possible yet something greater awaits me. The pain and suffering I face now and the hope I look forward to is a shimmering star shining light over me. This is what the collection makes me feel.
This collection really stick to the Givenchy house codes, there is an atmosphere of mystery that Claire is tapping into the brand, which is developing the brand into a luxury house again. I hope she continues this Creative Direction for brand and develops a even more stronger aesthetic for the house.
Yes, the atmosphere of mystery was at a peak. It's a mystery as to what the clothes actually look like, whoever staged this need to be informed about lighting and the existence of spots.
An asian model opening the show, followed by a beautiful dark skin model, the atmosphere, the fabrics, looks luxurious, everything is on its place, beautiful collection for being her first couture collection, she will learn too many things in givenchy, i miss R.T., but she's going be very successful . Take notes Maria G.
I actually really liked this collection. This reminds me of something that Hubert de Givenchy himself would design - for me, this is almost like the modern, updated version of something Audrey Hepburn (may she rest in peace) would wear. This is the true Givenchy, and mind you Hubert is still alive, I wouldn't want to imagine how he would have thought during the Tisci years - so if I was in Hubert's shoes, I would be proud of this collection.
This collection gives hope to the idea that couture is not dead. While exuberance and exaggeration are cornerstones of this art, they do not feel modern or approachable in their former iteration. It very much reminded me of Raf’s couture debut at Dior when our eyes were exposed to a fresh interpretation to classic lines. Galliano was a Master during his tenure but, like time, everything must move forward. The hallmarks of Hubert’s impeccable tailoring, architecture, and somber drama were all there but seen through the scope of the world we live in and of what couture used to be. Couture is not just beads, crinolines, or dazzling gowns but the art of impeccable details and finesse that is to be enjoyed by the wearer alone. Quiet luxury in a world full of fast fashion shouting.
Bravo!!! clearly, it’s a real designer’s work and not an embroidery designer’s. A beautiful modern take of Givenchy’s aesthetic. Sure there are hints of Mcqueen for Givenchy or Sarah Burton for Mcqueen. But it is good that she explored different shapes and silhouettes. A winner.
Beautiful collection, the tayloring looks so precise and the looks are purely elegant. Finally a REAL haute couture collection this season!!! Dior and Chanel put out so terrible couture collections this season that I'm happy to see that Givenchy is saving the day tbh
I loved it!! It's collections like these that make me want to stay up all night and sew! I see several of you feel that it's not haute couture and feels more like rtw. At the end of the day, these garments are at least 90% hand sewn and take hundreds of hours and several persons per garment to complete. And exactly what are we expecting ? Back in the day, houses were actually doing daywear. These pieces might have looked like rtw to the untrained eye. But, again, hundreds of hours to complete and ,at base level, 10s and 10s of thousands of dollars to purchase. It's HC, people. It is indeed HC. And, further more, I don't want to see Tisci's ideas. I loved his work, but I want to see what Clare has to say and feel like she delivered a beautiful, desirable collection for her first HC outing. I hope to see some these looks on some red carpets.
Alfred Golden thank you! I was thinking the same thing! They may look “simple” but there are some extremely complicated pieces in this collection that requires high technique to achieve. It’s not the theatrics and drama that makes the clothes haute couture.
If only I had the legs and the money to purchase some things from the collection. I love the light blue floor length, the black dress with the flowing floor length and blue pattern and the first rainbow dress, the one with the vivid red in the middle. Anyone any idea how much they would set me back? Wonderfully done to the designer!
Givenchy is regaining their high fashion exclusive image and appeal, something they had lost once Ricardo started associating the house with the Kardashians. It really cheapened the brand not because of the Kardashian sisters themselves, but more so because of the cheap disposable fast fashion brands that copies their collections all the time knowing kardashian fan girls will try so hard to look like their idols. which is like 90% of the girls on instagram and youtube. Next one that needs to go is Olivier Rousteing at Balmain, no one cares for the brand anymore. It needs some fresh update.
I don't know what problem you have with Maria Grazia Chiuri. She brought fresh air in Dior. Sales +19% If you regret Galliano, well probably you don't live in a real life but on the stage. Maria Grazia make a contemporary collection. Without dream? Probably true. But wearable clothing.
mais interessante e melhor trabalhado que a maria grazia na dior, mas ainda assim meio genérico e sem graça, sei lá. mas ok, é a primeira alta costura da claire, então vamos dar um desconto.
Very beautiful collection but felt very safe. To be honest, I rather a designer take a risk and do something unconventional that sparks conversation and creativity.
I wasn't feeling it. At all. This felt like one of those "inbetween" collections the in-house teams usually put on while they're still looking for a new Creative Director. Clare Waight Keller has yet to make a real wave at Givenchy, and after two lackluster shows back to back, I fear her tenure will be more or less the same. This collection was simply too plain, and clean for Givenchy RTW let alone HC. If perhaps referencing the archives would've been too much for her, even just touching on some of Tisci's religious iconography would've made this a whole lot more interesting. That said, there were some pretty dresses here and there, though they were just that. Pretty. Is there hope for Keller? Or will she prove to be Givenchy's Maria Grazia Chiuri? 3.6/10 | (Scale: 8.5 - 10 = A | 7 - 8.4 = B | 5 - 6.9 = C | 3.5 - 4.9 = D)
The intricate details and bts of creating HC pieces are not always something we can see just from a screen. A simple dress may look nothing on the surface but we'll never know how the construction under the dress until we really experience it. Cheers!
Not bad, its beautiful at all, but for me Givenchy is better with Riccardo. I think BALENCIAGA maybe must be like this if if Demna were not the creative director.
I love Fashion tv!
She I extremely talented > I love her balance of sensitivity and geometry. I think the presentation could have been stronger. I agree with Johny Maria Grazia Chiuri is just not cutting it and I dont find her that talented. She is doing a very poor job at Dior
vomit..., sad collection, feels old and not modern, if you say it's modern in the comments - can you please explain what was so modern about these sad clothes and confusing collection?
She has something to say and it promises. I just hope she tone down the reminiscent "goth thing" from Tisci. It feels forced. Just be natural, dear Clare. Riccardo had his time, but now it's your song we wish to listen to.
Some wonderfully crafted pieces here though slightly odd presentation. Let's not forget these clothes are designed with real people in mind. Surely you cannot truly appreciate couture without seeing, feeling and wearing the clothes. It seems we live in an era where understatement and elegance is eclipsed by marketing, political statement and novelty. She's a good designer, probably too classical/tasteful and will probably be snuffed out before the end of the year. Very weak almost non-existent applause, fashion people really are an unhappy bunch aren't they?
No, she's going to stay in her position as long as she can, through the use of politics. This will probably be her best job ever. Alexander Wang never wanted to stay in Balenciaga for long.
Another RTW under the name of HC. She really needs to learn from Tisci's collection at least. Btw, this collection felt very romantic and delicate but still not HC for me... This is RTW :)
Dev_4 actually, couture houses had to present no less than 52 looks per collection years ago and those shows lasted on average 40 mins because there was daywear cocktail and evening looks. The audiences back then were actual clients that purchased haute couture. Nowadays, it's more about press and publicity.
Alfred Golden True but like you said, a long time ago. No less than 52 doesn't mean sending out stuff just to send. I have a feeling this is the road Celine is going to head down.
Oh, how sad...and the presentation didn't help any. Not to be misogynistic, but women just DO NOT do couture as well as men. I think it's that couture requires an objective view outside of "wearing the clothes" that many women can't separate themselves from. So yes, women designers may excel at creating "wearable", marketable clothes -- but the fantasy and otherness of couture they seem to fall short of. The lackluster response and "polite" applause was palpable.....
Take notes, Maria Grazia Chiuri, this is a haute couture collection, not a dozen of tulle gowns with J'adior straps. This is beyond gorgeous.

Yasssss!!! Agreee!! Maria turs Dior too cheep-look street style. Her rtw and couture just look a like..nothing special
Teddy Kurniawan Dior is dead for me.
You did not pay attention to the collection, there were J'adior straps. Don't mix your seasons. Those straps are used in ready to wear...
The music was perfect, the set design was luxurious, the casting had diversity, the garments looked precious. This is an amazing start for Clare’s journey under the helm of a couture house. Bravo!
Modern couture. Great shapes, colors and fabrics. The menswear was good too. She fits very well with the house.

Absolutely...true to the roots of this esteemed maison!!!
Wow, this was not what I expected from her. Some of the pieces were outstanding and the music fits well with the whole collection.

definitely will see a lot of the designs being worn on the red carpet! exquisiite
The collection, the atmosphere, the line up and the music are amazing! My favorite hc show so far
This is the second or third show this season where Ive heard music from the Moonlight soundtrack! I love it!
Great collection too
classic Givenchy but modernized...magnifique..i know Clare will fit at Givenchy..cheers :)
Reminds me of the elephants painting by Dali. Strong but there's an ease to it. I love this collection! Claire is making her mark.
Bravo !!!!! This is one of the best collections of Haute Couture 👌🏼
This collection gives hope to the idea that couture is not dead. While exuberance and exaggeration are cornerstones of this art, they do not feel modern or approachable in their former iteration. The black and blue and green gown in it was sooo pretty
I think I'm the only one who is truly LOVED 💘 the collection... #ModernCouture 👌👗
No! I thought it was wonderful too!

Amazing collection. Bravo! to the new director Clare.
I loved this collection a lot.
A lot better than I expected. Give her time people, she’ll come into her own
Imagine that:A well thought out, executed, edited collection that was cohesive in it's presentation. Thought provoking.
What a wonderful collection! So breathe taking!!
This show was way better than Christian Dior. It didn’t totally take my breath away but many pieces were outstanding in my opinion.
Wow,i miss ticsi in menswear, but for woman claire is the best, the black dress with the color skirt was amazing and the final look kills me
AMAZING👏🏻❤️
great lines, fabric, shape..really tres beau. ..show up in any and basque
This is a great show tbh brings a modern couture feel.
Is this Clare's first haute couture line? It's amazing!
A stunningly beautiful collection. I could well imagine Audrey Hepburn in every piece and exuding modernity and chic elegance.
I like this music too! NICE.
THE PLISSÉ OMBRE DRESS, I'M DEAD!
Breathtaking...
I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS, BUT I'M FEELING CLARE! THE FIRST LOOK WAS TO DIE FOR! AND THE NUDE DRESS WITH FUCHSIA INTERIOR GET ME SHOOKETH!
This is a great show
Fantastic show! She really proved herself as a couturier
I felt this was was a well thought out and much better collection than her debut collection
I like it it’s understated modern luxury real French couture
I loved it!! It's collections like these that make me want to stay up all night and sew! I see several of you feel that it's not haute couture and feels more like rtw. YES I FEEL U ! they all act like if the dresses do not look big it's not couture lol it's irritating
Do you have Givenchy HC SS2017? Dying to see !
Enjoyable each one it's own special look, has the stamp of a real good designer....I like....
Much better but some pieces don't scream couture
I think she's playing it safe for her first couture collection

Does Givenchy is really the real place for her to be in ?

Modelos lindíssimas fazendo desfiles robóticos, não entendo porque os estilistas fazem isso.......

some strong pieces not so sure off some off the model chooses

Not Couture enough (Some), I guess???
I think she will be out like Alexander Wang to Balenciaga

No, she's going to stay in her position as long as she can, through the use of politics. This will probably be her best job ever. Alexander Wang never wanted to stay in Balenciaga for long.
Pretty but it isn’t hc
Sarah McGrath It is Haute Couture. 100s of hours of work went into each look, despite how simple they may look.
Another RTW under the name of HC. She really needs to learn from Tisci's collection at least. Btw, this collection felt very romantic and delicate but still not HC for me... This is RTW :)
I thought it was pretty, a few nice pieces sprinkled about, but it was definitely not HC.
joshcka Haute Couture is not all about Drama and flashiness! 🤦🏻♂️
Meh.....
This is sooooo boring. Why are these RTW shows masquerading as couture? Since when is couture over 40+ looks?
Dev_4 actually, couture houses had to present no less than 52 looks per collection years ago and those shows lasted on average 40 mins because there was daywear cocktail and evening looks. Alfred Golden True but like you said, a long time ago. No less than 52 doesn't mean sending out stuff just to send. I have a feeling this is the road Celine is going to head down.
Dev_4 It's not RTW. The amount of time and savoir-faire in each look qualifies it to be Couture.
Garbage. Tisci could do a collection like this in his sleep.
This looks heavily influenced by Riccardo Tisci. And the last look was horrible.
It was ok .. But not couture.
So, anorexic, robotic, zombie models are still the fashion and arty farty parades that make it difficult to see the pieces properly are still in. ERK!
