Holy SID, this is one of the grandest and most epic Artist Features by far, the legacy of Jereon Tel is absolutely glorious and it's great he is a legend of the C64 era and just VGM in general. And the amount of history that is left is fantastic and I love every bit of info and facts to the songs he did, the soundtracks he's made, his sound he crafted, and overall just giving a reason to remember so much about Video Game Music, his C64 era is without a doubt his greatest and what he will be remembered for, and of course my goodness the amount of titles he has to his name, definitely a large amount, and what is even more impressive is how quality each one is, obviously some hit harder and better than others but overall I loved every piece he has done for the C64. So I knew this was going to be a top notch Mix!
Your transitions, additions, and overall mixing to these tracks is just godlike, for how large this feature was I was enthralled all the way to the end, which I love me long listening sessions and when AF's get to this length like the Tim Follin and Frank Klepacki features. Of course so much of his C64 work I got into with his popular and well known stuff, Turbo Outrun, Outrun Europa, Eliminator, Myth, Cybernoid 1 & 2 (very impressed they didn't make the cut but of course I understand the way the mix flowed was probably hard decision leaving them off, but again anyone that knows Tel knows the songs from those), Golden Axe (and holy hell I love stuff knowing he did basically most the OST overnight, and with how accurate and fitting it is to the C64, probably my favorite versions of the music), Rubicon, RoboCop 3, and of course I mean literally most featured here I've heard and getting into more of his Demo's and anything that was a SID file that had his name on it I listened to it!
His NES work is one of the greatest lineups on the console when he got the chance to work on it, very interesting considering he started very late in the consoles life making music for it, but his quality makes it seem like he knew the NES back to front, of course his knowledge and hardcore composing method for the C64 made it no problem. RoboCop 3's Title Theme is still one of the greatest, and fun seeing him confirm on multiple videos of the NES/C64 title theme uploads of him composing the NES version first where for awhile most people thought he did the C64 version first. Technocop (so happy the music lives on from it), Alien 3, Overlord, Beauty and the Beast, and of course Bram Stoker's Dracula, all so amazing, Dracula without a doubt being one of the most perfect creepy, moody and atmospheric OST's on the NES, Tel really got everything out of that soundchip in his style!
And gosh just everything in the 90's he was involved in so many interesting projects and just doing his thing. That Soundmakers CD is such a neat piece of history, and love that "Play Your Game" track, the transition of it also into the "Placemat Power" is probably one of my most favorite and hype inducing moments on this channel, I just love the beat and rhythm of that song it's so dance inducing (also hello Tel did a CD-i title? Neato!). And Winter Gold is a perfect OST, I've always felt so, so fun and hype. And wow Hello 1997 hit me so emotionally in ways I would have never expected, those XM tracks are FIRE! And gosh I feel so bad the GBC titles he worked on got cancelled but happy the music lives on, that's again some of his greatest work, the GBC amazingly feels so perfect for C64 composers. Crimson's Mystery, Hard Truck & Katharsis all have great OST's and Rhino Rumble & Warlocked that got released are stellar, also again holy moly that transition into "Cave", blown away at so many amazing transitions here.
Even as Tel moved away from composing for actual games, into the 2000's and beyond he still produced amazing music, and has accomplished so much in talent and quality. Context of him losing his parents around that time makes listening to all from then on here in the mix so emotionally driving and my waterworks get going, and god damn he still just has a passion and thrive for making great Music whether VGM related or not, but love it still always being associated with him in some form. So great he shared that last song for this mix, I've had the pleasure of talking directly to Tel before and having conversations. He was always thankful and happy to see how much people loved his work, and even admired what I was doing with his work on my 8BitStereo versions, which really inspired a lot for me to keep going with that. So thank you so much anosci for the time and effort on this Artist Feature, and glad to see Tel has been here in the comments and hope he knows how much VGM he's done and just everything with it does incredible stuff for people, really hope this climbs more in views because as always your work is underrated as heck. Much continued love from just a dorky VGM lover and enthusiast. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎

Jeroen's probably a big chunk of why I'm diving back into C64 right now. Been having a blast listening to the FM'ified versions of a whole slew of artist's SID tunes.. It would be fun to speculate about how Jeroen's music would have sounded if oh, let's say an OPL3 on the userport would have been a thing back in the days.. Luckily we have awesome add-on hardware these days that does roughly that (FM-Yam). Thanks so much for the homage and showcase GST. You are amazing!

Of all the hundreds of C64 game music I have of his, the title to "Myth" and the remix of that that he himself made both went into my Top 10 collections of Commodore 64 music. It needed to be music that I just never get tired of listening to so I was extremely fussy about which C64 music made it into the Top 10. And "Myth" was it.

It's funny how primitive 80s and early 90s demos were compared to today's. The C64 has essentially advanced another generation via software. Tel is an all timer, both talented and prolific. It's a little overwhelming seeing the skipped compositions fly by and the video still coming in over 40 minutes. A good amount of thought must have gone into choosing the final mix.

    • @JeroenTel

Wow wow wow... hold your horses, sir... I did work on the project a lot, but it got delayed a lot because of personal -let's call them- issues. I am still finishing the remakes now and will release the album.
I think it's unfair to say that I went from HERO to ZERO because I failed this project (so far). It was underfunded, I was very clear in my pitch about how the money was going to be spent and some guys (I won't mention their names in order not to go into their mindset) bashed me to death when I didn't keep my schedule up to the point they even bullied me out of my relation with my fiancee. If I would've known about that beforehand I would not have started the campaign to begin with, honestly. But I did start the campaign and I will finish the project, even though it takes way too much time.
