Thanks for the short torso. Fashion has always been a struggle for me because of my long legs and short torso. Watching your videos has given me a better idea of things to avoid and things that are flattering. Thank you, Thank you Thank you.
I too have a short torso and I’ve found that my enemy is longline bikini tops. Definitely agree with what you said. Any extra fabric at the stomach is a no because it cuts off the torso and makes it look shorter. I used to love wrap bikini tops and extra straps, but now I make sure that I don’t have a single inch (even centimeter) of fabric right below the boobs. Also high leg bottoms (not high waist) makes the waist look smaller and the torso look longer. It draws the eye to the center where you want the longest line possible. Bikini tops that have the underwire that peaks like an upside down V between the boobs (they’re really trendy now) make the torso look longer also.
Love all these tips! Bathing suits are so hard with short torsos and I found the high waist literally make me look like humpty dumpty with an inch of skin showing on my torso. I do want to share that one piece suit #19 is actually one of the only bathing suit brands that has a short torso and it fits me well (might also be because I am a rectangle shape). I have it in 4 different colors and always get compliments so would recommend people try it! It fits very differently on my body than the model but is almost more flattering. Plus the deep v neck and low back give the illusion that my torso is longer than it is! (Deep V with strappy details around the chest and low backs are my go-to when I do one pieces to draw attention away from my mid section and elongate it)
You are not built like a brick- is this wrong designend clothes which make you look like one - I have broad shoulders - rip case and very short torso myself.
@@JulesBeth Thank you!! I’m looking forward to this. I’m 51 years old and a size 6, but menopause is taking its toll and I’m struggling with menopausal belly. Anything you can suggest in the next video about workable tankinis or one piece swimsuits with maybe side cut outs that can elongate the torso while helping with the belly would be so welcome!! I appreciate your videos so much, by the way. I’m 5’4” and I have always been on the thin side but so many times in my life I’ve looked at photos and wondered why I looked so stubby or dumpy. Nobody ever once explained what a short torso was until I saw your video on how to measure it. I sent it immediately to my 22 year old daughter who has the same proportions and it’s been so helpful for her as well.
Amen! 44 years old and have had four pregnancies including one with twins. All that extra belly skin is better under fabric. I needed something that holds me in just over my belly button. I don’t even care if stretch marks show, I just don’t have any structure left to my skin. I have one high neck one piece from Amazon with horizontal mess cut outs that’s not too bad. I bought another that’s one wide strap from Amazon that’s Calvin Klein brand but the torso is too long. Can I tailor a swimsuit? lol.
My favorite swimsuit for my short torso combines a few things you recommend to avoid, but I swear it works! It's a one piece, with low leg lines, spaghetti straps, rushed sides, and the colour/pattern is continuous so you just have one colour block- but it's lower, disguises your waistline, and looks more proportional! The look tends to come across as a little vintage, and while it may visually widen the hips a bit, I have broad shoulders and it only works in my favor, I love it.
Thank you so much! I have a Short Torso and didn't know that for a long time, and now this knowledge and your channel - it's just game-changing. Great work!
I’m so glad I can be helpful! It’s not something I had really thought about before either. Then I realized I’d been thinking about it for years without giving it a name. I look forward to seeing you around here! 😊❤️
I subscribed to your channel for more of these videos. Thank you, I have learned many of these things through trial and error but you shared so many new ones! Thank you. More short torso videos!
Yessss. You put into words and made explicit exactly what I have trouble with!!! All the ones you recommended have been my favorite suits in the past and I never knew why! Thank you!
This video is 3 years old. But it's new to me lol. Despite being aware of my short torso, I could never understand why the bottom ties always rolled down or just didn't look right on me. I always thought I needed to lose more weight. Now I get it lol Thank you for this!! 🎉
Loved this! It sounds great for someone who is in shape or has had kids. I have a short torso large bust and a mommy pouch I like to keep covered. Now since high waist is a no go and one piece is also a no go. What do you suggest?
Where have you been my whole life!!!! I have been so discouraged by this particular subject I’ve settled with tankinis. Dark bottom and halter top that’s patterned and basically overlaps the bottoms by a couple inches making it look like I’ve got a T-shirt on
"I must be the one that needs to lose weight...wait, I'm a size 4, how much weight do I really need to lose?" Girl, you just helped me so much with that line. Thank you!!
I don't have a short torso but I am short, just under 5'2", and these tips work for me also. Some girls look good in the high wasted bottoms, some look like they are in a diaper. I fit in with the second crowd lol Just bought a one shoulder, probably going to drive me crazy with tan lines, but it really is flattering
Oh that good to know! I’m glad some of these are still useful. That’s so funny you mention the tan lines because I cut out me ranting about how I don’t tan anyway lol 😂 But I totally get what you mean if you tan easily!
This is the first time my experience has been very different from yours. It would be helpful if you examples of what to wear were on short torso models because I think they will look very different. Drawing two lines across the wider torso of a body with little waist definition simply draws attention to all the issues we don’t want to highlight. In a one-piece suit, especially but not exclusively with a halter neck - even with a deep plunge, the torso is not chopped up highlighting the short upper half, but rather is one line from neck to groin. This is the outfit in which we can look our best because it highlights our long legs while not chopping up our torso.
I’ve always thought I had a long torso because my legs are extremely long and I’m about 5’9 so I’m tall but when I took measurements I found out that I actually have a pretty short torso I’ve just been looking at myself wrong because other girls that have my body type are shorter than me. This really opened my eyes tbh!
Totally agree wt the high rise bottoms, it makes me look like I‘m wearing a one piece bathing suit. Maybe thats a tip for people with short torsos who really want to wear a one piece for whatever reason (modesty, comfort, sport …). Hiking up the girls is definitely a pro tip. I really like underwire haltertops with thicker straps. I think they look quite classy, timeless and feminine. For me (broad shoulders + short torso + narrow hips) that can be a struggle to achieve. Thanks for the video!
Jules,, I love the videos.. to add to the list of problems for the short torso, I have also a wide shoulder (inverted triangle) so most of the advice on keeping the interest on top is tricky for me as I tend to avoid attention on top :(
The one way i wear high rise and onepiece is with a highrise bottom whos top hits the bottom of the tankini top. It looks like a onepiece but is two pieces. The one i have has a block of color in the middle all the way up on both pieces though so idk if it will work with just one solid color, because ive not tried it yet with just one color. I ended up just sewing it myself because i sew (started learning a while ago because i had such a hard time with fitting clothes, before i found this channel!), so I wonder if any of them exist being sold anywhere. But if anyone reading this finds one like that or decides to make one, i highly recommend... It is so flattering and i love it. I get both the highrise trend and onepiece and feel comfortable but look great at the same time.
What if you are a mom and your kids were huge when u had them so you were a blimp while preg. This left me with a saggy little crepe pouch just below my belly button detailed with faded stretch marks. This won't go away without surgery which realistically isn't an option for me. What's worse is im only 28 and im afraid my bikini days are over. Is this true? I have such long legs and always did the high waist high leg even though I knew it looked dumb. Please help
Congrats on your kids mama! ❤️❤️ I can’t speak from experience but I’ll think about this. Always wear what you want but I understand how this makes you feel. My first thought is to find a higher mid rise that is very low embellishment and in a color that doesn’t pop (similar to skin tone or just not bright). Then choose tops that draw the eye up and footwear that pops. Hats help too! I hope that helps 💞
Weight always goes to my short torso and I can never seem to lose weight there, yet my long arms and legs look anorexic, does anyone know how I can lose weight in my torso?
Also, I have found high waist Brizillian style / Cheeky that comes up in a V it looks really good… I think? Also, who invented a swimsuit with elastic? Bain of my existence…
I got a short torso, and pair shaped hips. I can't do any low rise bottoms or It makes me look *super* bloated so I both have legs as my main attribute and my hips as my biggest issue. It's so friggn hard
i'm perpetually terrified of my bottoms coming off, or slipping in their position and letting something show that i don't want shown. not sure i could ever wear low rise & high leg bottoms. sounds like my worst nightmare, ngl
Short torso short legs isn’t a vertical body shape. It’s confusing 😅 it’s not about height. If your torso and legs are in balance, then you have a proportional body shape. If you’re short in height, then you’re proportional and petite. Hope this video helps! ❤️ ruclips.net/video/QfNFxjnjX4c/видео.html
I wish petite clothing wasn’t so much of an afterthought for brands. The average height of a woman is 5’4” which falls in the petite section yet those options are often lacking 😔
It can be challenging but I hope you can learn to love it despite the challenges! I still go through rough moments, but I'm also happy to know it's completely normal and workable for my style goals 💕
Treat others with love and kindness. No matter what. And when you see the opposite, say something.

i have been looking for this info for YEARS. thank you so much for the work you do
What about short torso and broad shoulders? I’m built like a brick 😂
Updates version for 2021 coming soon!
I just commented after you @ainsley brown with a tip for that. I have similar proportions maybe.
You are not built like a brick- is this wrong designend clothes which make you look like one - I have broad shoulders - rip case and very short torso myself.
I would like to see a swimsuit with more coverage like a tankini. Not all of us are comfortable in a bikini or a one piece that looks like a bikini.
Noted! Thanks! Updated video coming soon!

Is there a video like this for long torso, short leg body type?
Love the tips! Thank you. I hate low rise bottoms but maybe I need to embrace them more :-)
It never hurts to try again! Chances are low rise isn’t as low rise on a short torso body than on longer torso models 😊

Trick from a short torso sister who does not like Bikinis- get a petit size swimsuit !!! Works for me ( unless you are petit and a short torso)
These are great.! Also, halter styles. Thick straps are awful if you are broad shouldered.
Glad you like them! Yes! Be careful with shoulders 😊
Where did you get that cute pink top?
H&M! Currently selling it on my Poshmark posh.mk/e63kzF3pleb
