I'm so happy to see you teaching hmong. Makes me feel proud that there are others out there that can speak hmong fluently. Keep up the great job.

anyone who is learning/can speak korean, something that helped me is remembering that 'w' sound as VERY similar to 'eu'/으 in korean. not exactly, but so so close. so 'ww' would be also be 'eung'/응. good luck!

Chelsea Mae I’ll note that! Thank you! I’m learning Korean right now as well and I’m far better at it than Hmong. (And I’m kinda embarrassed about it because I’m part Hmong and I’m better Korean. Oops)

For Korean, I think it's pretty Easy.
"o", "w" is maybe hard for English speaker, or Japanese speaker because their Not have that Vowels.
    but in korean, exist. good!

I believe the worksheet includes Green/Blue Hmong too.. as it uses the same vowels but adds to them by a few unique vowels. Many of my first lessons focused on White Hmong since that’s what I learned first and there’s more resources that I had then in White. But I want to include more of both as I go. My husband has been making recent videos too with both dialects. His channel is listed in my posts. Check him out! 😃

Can you give me examples of "ww" vowel words?

    • @Tswv863SarahGore
      @Tswv863SarahGore  6 лет назад

      Great question! Thanks for asking.
The Heimbach dictionary has several words:
ntaiv qos hwwv - Extremely hot.
koj kumyuj txawj xam hwwv. You certainly can figure things out!
      (somewhat satirical).
Koj kum yuj txawm xam hwwv. You certainly do know how to figure things
      out!
nwws vwb - a black horse
And there are other resources too:
Tsheb thawv hwwv. - The bus shakes a lot.
Doris Whitelock writes about it too:
loj hwwv - lub nkoj ntawd loj hwwv
thawv hwwv - lub tsheb thawv hwwv
ntev hwwv - kuv mus ntev hwwv lawm
siab hwwv - tuam choj siab hwwv
"You have learned several post-verbals, e.g. tag, lawm, yom, kiag, maj, xwb, thiab, tso, Ii cas, hwwv, ne, lauj."
It seems mostly an alternate to 'heev.'
There are many more resources. If you have dictionaries in a PDF form, try searching "ww" in a PDF reader and see where all the examples come up. :)

Sure! I seem to think they only relate to Green/Blue Hmong though.
      Here are some from dictionaries:
      ..mostly for the word 'very'
hwwv - An intensive final particle (cf. 'heev')
nwws vwb - a black horse
ntaiv qos hwwv - Extremely hot.
      loj hwwv - Extremely large.
It's very rare, but it does exist. Hope this helps a little. :)

Interesting... ive never heard of this "ww" as well. Could it be a Hmong Chinese dialect? Sounds kind of like it according to the examples that you provided.

If anyone is struggling with the W. You can practice it by saying "ew"... like as if you're grossed out by something. The sound you're looking for is in the middle between the "e" and "w". Say it very slow and with the deepest exaggeration like as if it's the most disgusting thing you've ever seen.
