I saw this movie this afternoon, and I absolutely loved every minute of it. I loved how raunchy it is, but also how emotional it is as well. I felt a real connection with the story being adopted myself from Vietnam by white parents. The last third had me a mess because I felt such a bond with Audrey. I also really loved how Asian men were presented in this movie. Great movie!
I mean this in like the friendliest way ever but I was literally searching on RUclips for some Joy Ride reviews and then I got y'alls notification, so in my head I was like, "you better have posted your Joy Ride review!" Lmao! That's soo crazy that I was literally about to look for Joy Ride reviews and now I don't have to and can just watch yours. Hehe. Yay me!
4/5 for me. Just got out of it. It’s so good. Adele Lim CRUSHED IT (she famously left the crazy rich Asians sequels over a pay gap between her co-writer and ultimately ended up doing this) and she’s gonna have a great career as a filmmaker. I’m a huge fan of the writers (as someone who watched a lot of family guy and American Dad I’d see their names a lot for a bunch of the episodes). It’s really really funny (and LOVE HOW FAR IT GOES) but is full of heart (there’s a scene in act 3 that almost had me 🥺). Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver of Point Grey are I think some of the best comedy producers in the business. Because their company makes stuff not only what they’d watch but also they have such a diverse slate (especially on their 📺 side).
4/10 for me. It felt just a little too try hard. There's this thing with some of us asian people where we try to go against stereotypes but some people go a little too far where it's cringe; that's what the film reminded me of. But maybe that's more to say about me and my biases than this film, idk. I didn't like any of the characters except the friend who likes kpop.
It's somewhat true as they filmed this in 2021 but held off until 2023 because Hsu had a serious chance of winning an Oscar for Everything Everywhere, so Lionsgate was hoping to use her win to boost this movie.
I hate that I hated this movie so much, but I really did. The cast is good and they have solid chemistry, but almost every single joke landed like a sack of potatoes for me. You could feel it in the audience too. Just empty silence where the laughs should have been. Representation matters, even being represented in a terrible movie, just wish this one had more bite and actual laughs.
They never give a full breakdown of what they took points off for. For all we know, they dock points for cinematography or soundtrack. We just get the overall conclusion, which they give as a score on a scale to 10. That's how they've always done things.
We mentioned that there are some awkward transitions between the comedy and sentimentality, and some of the pop culture reference are going to seem dated very soon. Thanks for watching.
I just saw it tonight and it's just pure joy! Better yet, there isn't the moral, at least not hardcore, of the condescending liberal insistence that every non-White protagonist needs to "connect with their roots." Also, 😈😽 FTW!
@@BreakfastAllDayI wouldn’t be surprised if Adele wanted Awkwafina as first choice, Stephanie Hsu has been nabbing roles like Everything Everywhere All At Once simply because of Awkwafina scheduling conflicts…
this is offtopic and on.....I'm on the West Coast and I never get these until Saturday now. It didn't use to be this way all the way back to WTF I could watch the reviews on Friday as they were produced but even though you've said you're making them in the AM on Tuesdays and Fridays I ALWAYs get them a day late. Dislike that.
Thanks for your feedback. If you are subscribed and hit the bell to be notified as soon as reviews are up, you'll see that they are always up on Fridays. We record them, edit them and post them as fast as we can. There are only two of us doing all of this now -- we don't have a big staff like we did in the What the Flick days. "This movie is absolutely incredible, but 7.5 and 7.8." 😂
We enjoyed a lot about it but had a couple of reservations, as well. Thanks for watching.
@@BreakfastAllDay sure love you guys, just thought it was funny you gave it all love for 7 minutes, but then didn't even give it an 8.
Looking at the reviews it's because it seems it's not consistent
Sounds good. A critic I watch who hates most movies said it was good as well.

Still salty that Stephanie Hsu can't be announced as Oscar-Winner Stephanie Hsu on the poster

I've seen this movie 3 times already....and each time it's like the first. It kills!!

Best scene with a basketball since Halle Berry’s Catwoman!
Ha!
Loved this movie haven’t laughed so hard in a movie theater in a long time!!!
There are some big laughs here!
Alonso popping off with those opening remarks, brilliant exposition 😎
Always!
I didn't know you guys were back! I'm so happy 😢
We've been here for years, glad you found us!
OMG So excited! Hopefully seeing a secret screening in London tonight- otherwise have to wait a month!
Woo hoo!
Thanks for the review! I really want to see this.
Hope you enjoy it!
Just saw it on starz. It was amusing not laugh out loud funny. I give it a 6
This is a really funny raunchy comedy that seems to know exactly what it is and still manages to have a ton of heart and soul.
Glad you enjoyed it too.
That's so true! Movies make packing for trips look so easy! 😂
Right?!
my entire theater viewers
😂LOL😂 6/10 for me😊😊
I'd trade most of the mediocre big budget action flicks for raunchy comedies in a heartbeat.
Woo hoo!!
This was fun!
The numbers scores felt incongruous with everything you said. Especially since you didn’t provide the reasons for docking a few points off. 🤔

Are you guys going to review Sound Of Freedom? It seems to be picking up a lot of steam.
Probably won’t have time in the next week, it’s very busy.
@@BreakfastAllDay Forgive my cynicism, but are all things faith-based verboten 'round your way?

Hilarious and emotional. It was a nice surprise.
Glad you liked it!
Where's your Sound of Freedom review guys?
We haven't had a chance to get to it between the July 4 holiday and lots of other schedule juggling.
I would love to hear your opinion on it. I personally thought it sucked but I feel I’m in the minority lol.

Hi, friend! Better get signed up for the marathon soon before the price goes up. Hope to see you on Saturday mornings.
Signed up and hoping this sore foot lets me get back out on Saturdays soon!
So, what makes this movie not good enough for either of you to rate it higher than a 7.8? Why do you like it a lot; but not love it?
Well we explained, there are some tonal shifts that are kind of awkward. But we liked a lot about it. Thanks for watching.
