- Two variations of this songs exists, this and the other being from an SS-Obersturmführer Hillar Erma and Bernhard Einborn, which has many different variations, used by members of the volunteer Estonian Legion known as ''5th SS Panzer Division Wiking'' and later the ''20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Estonian)''.
However, due to de-nazification and other reasons like many of this songs variations, the lyrics also changed not to include the word ''Üks Eesti SS-Pataljon'', this made it more suitable for modern-day use which is here sang by Eesti Kaitsevägi.

Fun fact, many of the former Waffen SS members from the baltics were taken as allied POW's (they were fighting somewhere around allied fronts I believe?). And quite many of these decided not to return to socialist life that would be ahead of them after the war, so they tried to seek for asylum in countries like the USA and many stayed there forever. So yeah, they were not treated as ''enemies'' really, I guess? I believe this RUclipsr called Mark Felton Productions made a very good video about it, although quite long time ago.
Baltic sea is the single most strategic region for NATO in Europe, to properly fulfill Russia's containment. I did not know this fact, but it actually may be true

Even a few versions of this song I have found with just "eesti" and not "eesti ss" have been taken away

@@CalvinandJed precisely. The bad guys for Estonians were obviously communists. Many people felt that German occupation was not as restricting to their freedom compared to the reds. But luckily communism fell and they gained their long earned independence.

Musically speaking is the best rendition of the Teufelslied, by far.
If Europe will ever have a united army, I bet this song will be in its marching repertoire. After all the Waffen SS were the first modern european army, and this song has survived WW2, still being sung in Germany, France, Italy as a soldier song, of course with proper elimination of nazi shit from its lyrics. The World needs a strong Europe (I mean something different from the EU which is, geopolitically, nothing) to defend the Rule of Law. We don't know if mankind will be able to manage AI without a strong Europe. Only us have the history and the antibodies against authoritarianism, and AI could be dangerous if fallen in the wrong hand
There are many great songs to be used in an hypothetical United European Nations type of country, but this is surely one of the best for sure with its melody that traces back to the national socialist era. Very good piece of history that still is widely used, of course in a very different form.

This is what I found here on RUclips. Notice it says "Üks vapper Eesti SS Pataljon" instead of the modern lyrics "Üks vapper Eesti Pataljon". Everything with the nazis has been taken away from the song.

I'm sorry to reply in English, as I don't speak Estonian language however some sentences are understandable due to it resembling closely the Finnish language. This song is a DIFFERENT song than the one you're speaking of, Eesti SS Pataljon. Due to de-nazification reasons that song is not used anymore in modern society and in any government instances. That is where this song comes in, a slightly modified song with the same melody and lyrics just that they removed anything resembling national socialism, nazis and the SS-groups like the Estonian SS that the original song is written of about. Nonetheless, a very beautiful march song - absolutely one of my favorites!
