    That guy asking "how'd they get there?!" about marine fossils found on mountains reminds me of Bill O'Reilly asking about the tides. That's an excellent question for a child to ask, but not someone pretending to be an authority on the subject. And it's made all the worse by what you pointed out: they accept some form of tectonic activity, they just dispute the time scales involved. So I'm baffled as to why they'd include his incredulous question in the video.

      If I had to guess why, it's because it *sounds* like an obvious "gotcha" point and they need as many as possible to sow the seeds of doubt in the official story in order to put forward theirs.

      @TheKyrix82 6 лет назад

      Kent probably had a huge impact. But that doesn't change the fact that it's a different person. Since we're talking about Genesis, let's look at some other fiction. Obi Wan more or less raised Anakin from the age of 9 or so. The two couldn't have turned out more different. Or let's look at a more relevant fiction: How Christians see Yahweh vs how they see Jesus. Logicked did a lot of work on an old Kent Hovind lecture from before he went to prison, whereas this is a movie Eric Hovind did recently with collaboration of lots of other YEC sources

      It's so obvious that it's actually pathetic. A sad attempt to give credibility to their nonsense. I could be wrong but it sounds to me like they electronically manipulated the voice to sound more like Tyson. It's like they think that all science is propaganda against them and if they make their own propaganda then they're somehow on the same level.

    As a geologist studying the Snake River and Yellowstone track, I happily accept that catastrophic events can happen on relatively short time scales. But this doesn't really contradict the principle of uniformitarianism because they act on and in different scales. All identified catastrophic events are local, even if huge from our perspectives.
    That said, one can be assured that when Yellowstone blows, it will have a bigger global impact than any flood a bunch of stinky old goat herders could imagine. So I am a bit astounded when the people making these movies get up and talk b/s so readily and blatantly. It's like me explaining NASCAR from the perspective of a tailgate party lol

      I think you mean 'the principle of uniformitarianism' rather than 'the principle of authoritarianism'. That being said, I agree with you, although things like the Chicxulub event were truly global in their effect.

      @brendarua01 6 лет назад +1

      Condor thank you for the correction. Uhg! I've fixed it.
      Have you seen the talk about meteor strikes like Chicxulub causing eruptions on the opposite side of our Earth? Decca and Siberia events were offered up. If true they would certainly add to the global scope of the impact.

    A Geologist friend of mine loves your work. He rarely encounters a YEC’er, but has found some of your resources valuable.
    Of course as have I. These nudniks just keep stretching their explanations in a game of catch up. Recently anggod friend died. At the wake many got up and proclaimed that he was either 1) in heaven or 2) in the arms of Jesus. As of late I spend more time reading science than the Bible so I asked a Christian friend of mine where they got their references from. My memory indicated the above were not written anywhere in the Bible (other weirdness was proclaimed, but I will spare the details🙄). His response was: “Time becomes a relative thing in the arms of an eternal Being.” So not only did he not answer my question, he jumped right into an understanding of the time/space continuum that for them covers all inconsistencies and incongruities of their “literal” interpretation of the Bible.
    Ack! Deeply annoyed!

    The whole denial of geology for YEC's focuses on the radiometric dating while ignoring the patterns of fossil distribution that completely falsify any of the YEC models for flood deposition. The density model doesn't work with even the most minimalist study. The running for high ground model is completely ridiculous. Burying by ecosystem isn't true as the geologic column is many stacked ecosystems and not just one buried in flood sediment. The Berthault sediment layering doesn't explain anything except for repeated thin sandstone layering under the most specific of conditions. Then they say this flood was so powerful to do major carving but was weak enough to keep delicate fossils intact and keep salt and freshwater from mixing. Then when pressed they say it was a "combination of all of these" like that somehow magically can work. They tend to not think about geological sorting much beyond the 5 minutes of talking points in this video.

    • @rehoover7461

      Marilyn Newman - as a child (8 or 9), being forced to go to Hebrew school, we read that g*d created adam then from a rib he created eve, then they had Cain and able, then Cain killed abel. Then I asked too many questions about why they could not have knowledge. .. then i was asked not to return. So I never got any further reading a book of fairy tales that just served as an excuse to systematically destroy my people. Since we were told they were the only humans, it was only snatural that Cain fucked his mom. But, I degress, here I am justifying a response to your justification of hebrew fan fiction. Isn't it sad that this book of fiction brought on the reality of 2000 yrs of horror, terror, torture, displacement rape racism sexism homophobia anti-islamia anti-semitism hatred child abuse and molestation condoning slavery and murder of the jews cuz they were there and know for a fact that not only did jesus never exist, the cockroach mentality christians stole yeoweh and glued on a jesus son and holy ghost. Interesting story, HUH!!! I am simply amazed that adults actually believe this nonsense and bullshit. And use it against others as proof of what?

      @laurajarrell6187 6 лет назад +1

      RE Hoover you and Marilyn Newman had a great conversation. It came up on my phone (RUclips) because of my comment. That is what is good, people talking this through. But, I am anti-theist for the very same things you mentioned, and came to that when I was in my early 20's, after having to read the bible 5 times, a couple different versions. Later, learning history just made me more anti religion, all religion. And that was while usually working, sometimes two jobs and a while before the internet. Well, I came to the internet late anyway. But, good points. Love and Peace

    • @rehoover7461
      @rehoover7461 6 лет назад

      Marilyn Newman - it's more accurate to say scientists that are christians, are catholic. The "christian scientist" implies the actual religion by that name (dangerous folk that don't believe in medicine or science).
      And, yeah, I am aware of how the ministry does manipulate their flocks!!
      I was raised by parents that were not religious, but liars to the MAX and it drives me nuts when I know I'm being lied to.
      I strive for the truth and see nothing truthful about the church ... how could an organization with a foundation based on its horrendous history? In my last statement to you I mentioned the core values of the church - these are based on my research of their history.
      I will say again that with my resent 1.5 yrs of retirement research into the horrors of the church and bible, I am extremely blown away by how christians take the bible literally. At 9 I was unable to even bring myself to believe in the nonsense and at 11 my dad's pal dropped us off at a hell and damnation sermon and I knew it was lies then too.
      The catholic church since the 4th century has of horror just in its pedophile priests.
      I know and knew it couldn't be a believeable proposition or organization to support and raise itself up in history with such horror and abuse, I didn't even mention the inquisitions or martin luther. .. i did some research on him too - the nazis final solution is based on his writings. That's why I am an anti-theist.

    You know, while watching this video, I was thinking back to things I saw and had explained to me at various points in my lifetime. I thought to when I first went to the Grand Canyon, when I was 3, and I asked how it was made. I was told that the rocks were eroded away by the Colorado River, still at the bottom of the canyon, much as I'd seen sand stirred up and moved by creeks. I imagined that the Colorado River was once MUCH BIGGER, and imagined that its roaring waters took the rock away very rapidly - much like sand. There are other examples from early childhood.
    I since had better explanations, found in everything from visitor's guides to textbooks to teachers of relevant classes to reading peer-reviewed journal articles. I found that some of my visualizations of descriptions I had in early childhood were correct, but my timeframe was way off. In the instance above, being 3, I thought a decade was a very long period of time, and really could not comprehend millions or billions.
    I had some similar experiences with the concept of evolution, when dinosaurs were, and believed what I saw on The Flintstones. I knew dinosaurs were a long time ago, cavemen were a long time ago, my great grandparents were children a long time ago. A long time ago = a long time ago! I once asked my grandmother if people lived in caves when she was a girl!
    When listening to the clips from the creationists, it seems to me like many of them are stuck in the explanations based on my understandings in early childhood. It's like they cannot comprehend large numbers or long periods of time. It seems to me much like they refused to listen to, read, or be willing to say that their first impressions were wrong, and to accept a more complex description might better describe reality.
    Maybe they are stuck in an early-childhood stage of development, complete with magical thinking. Hmmm. This is going to require more thought. I refuse to believe that religion is always a mental illness or developmental disorder.

    Generely speaking you are right when you say that absense of evidence is not evidence of absense. However, if you don't find any evidence in a place where, according to the hypothesis you are investigating, evidence should be found then the absense of evidence indeed is evidense of absense. Granted, a single instance of lack of evidence is not particulary good evidence, but if evidence is lacking in a large number of instances with not a single instance of positive evidence, then the absense of evidence is a pretty good evidence of absense.

    if the geologic column was due to a great flood, we should not find ANY sea creatures in the lowest layers, as they could SWIM. They would all be in the upper layers, having managed to swim to the top, and only dying when their food or oxygen supply ran out.

      What about the ones that live on coral reefs ? Or bottom feeders. or salt water fish fresh water fish . or or or. Clams ousters crabs ETC.

    • @Fraterchaoraterchaos
      @Fraterchaoraterchaos 6 лет назад

      and exactly how does that explain the normal fish that didn't live in coral reefs, or weren't bottom feeders, (I don't even know what you are bringing up salt versus fresh for, since that's the WORST argument for a flood) or or or not clams, not oysters and not crabs?
      If ANY normal fish that could swim and didn't need to stay near the bottom were fossilized at the time of the flood, in the lowest layers, that falsifies the flood... PERIOD. Bringing up a few possible exceptions that would have been forced to remain on the bottom only shows what a bad idea the flood myth is to begin with.

    • @truethinker221
      @truethinker221 6 лет назад

      I don't believe in a WWF I just said that they shouldn't find the fish in the bottom layers because they could swim was not a good reason. That would not mean that they wouldn't be in the lower layers. And the WWF believers say fresh water is lighter than salt water and that would be thousands of feet above the original sea level. surface so salt water fish would have died and sank to the bottom of the sea. Even if they died over high ground they would have been washed down by the trenchant rivers that were formed by the flood . and the subsequent draining . Lost cause . They wont listen. The whole thing is stupid.
      Anyway i guess i read your comment wrong . I agree a global flood covering the earth 20 ft above the highest mountains as little as 5,ooo years ago is ridicules. The story may have an original source as many local floods may have inspired myths after the last ice age. It is a little hilarious that we are debating such a thing but i just can't help it.
      I believe the people in the biblical time period did not understand the scope of the world and were only concerned of the known world, many examples of this are given in the bible Plus if they went out to sea where land disappeared they wold think the whole earth was flooded, that is if they ever made it back to talk about it. . So the idea that credibility of the bible rest on physical evidence of a WWF is ludicrous. The bible was written in a time where little was known about geography, cosmology or physics. And reflects that and should show a world through the ancient eyes that lived it. If it didn't it would be a fake.. What ! Just goofing around sorry to bother you.

    Depth in the column and elevation are two different things. You touch on the concept of no mammals reaching the high ground which is a good point but beyond that we don't see things sorted by elevation we see them sorted by depth of the column. Fossils at low and high elevations are sorted by depth and evolutionary progression. I ask creationists to pick any method they want. Running speed, swimming speed, intelligence etc, you don't find a sort pattern by any of those they are sorted as evolution would expect.

    Sorry Paul, one tiny point: no decent fossils before the Cambrian (well, actually an eon before that!) so land animals only occupy a tiny percentage of the geologic column in total. Not 20%, maybe only 10? For almost all the geologic column (approx 4 billion years) there is very little at all. It is only the last half a billion years that exciting stuff happens and then most of it is underwater. Brilliant as ever though and well-done on the pronunciations, especially if you don't like geology (so says Shannon). It happens to be my job.

      Andrew . I'm afraid that would make the calculation worse not better: more like 80%. I'm not trying to be picky, it's just that Paul's video's are great and his objectives are worthy. It is worth getting it all correct and rubbing the disingenuous creatards faces in the truth.

    About 4 or 5 minutes in, I think you got some details wrong about radiometric dating. That only works on igneous rock. It doesn't work on sedimentary rock because the sediments are made from older rock -- so they work out the age of the index fossils by seeing which igneous rocks they're found between.

    +Paulogia 7:17 "Obviously, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."
    I've heard this claim many times...often from theists making excuses for the absence of their god. xD It seems quite clear that it is just wrong. Absence of evidence is indeed evidence of absence, it simply not conclusive evidence of absence. It is merely one small piece of evidence pointing towards absence. The more such observations are made, the stronger the evidence.
    I would like to hear your thoughts on this. :)
    Thanks for your great videos, you're doing important work!!

    To quote Logicked, on the topic of sea creature fossils found at the top of mountains: "Duh... what's a mountain?"
    That's why you can find sea creatures at the top of mountains: *THEY'RE MOUNTAINS.* If you don't know what a mountain is, that makes no sense and is a complete mystery. If you know what a mountain is, it would be more surprising not to find fossils in them for creatures that don't belong in that sort of terrain.
    Because mountains are....? C'mon, kids, remember your high school geology classes, if you weren't homeschooled and therefore automatically failed. Plate tectonics. Look it up. Jesus christ... MOUNTAIN AM BIGROCK DER4 Y FOSSIL is not a valid argument against science, kids.

    I disagree. The statement itself is correct.
    However, absence of evidence and the lack of need for existence is good evidence of absence.
    If we can’t find it AND we don’t need it, it is probably not there.
    Luckily, we don’t need god to explain things.

    Small nitpick of 7:15 - abscence of evidence can be evidence of abscence in several circumstances, for example in this case the fact that palaeontologists have been scouring precambrian rocks for 200 years and yet to find a single land-dwelling animal is pretty good evidence that none existed back then. Note that this is *evidence,* not proof, of course.

    How in the fuck did "Noah's flood" always put bunny rabbits in the top most layers and dinosaurs in the lower layers? Layers of different rock types mind you. Different layers that have different magnetic properties mind you. This flood was pretty damn smart. You have to admit that Noah's flood was able to see the future and anticipate the need to separate things so that it seemed science was right while simultaneously camouflaging the notion that it was really just a flood and that billions of life forms all existed at the same time and were simply laid down magically in different layers to make it seem they came from different eras millions of years apart. Wow sentient floods are both amazing and confusing all at the same time. We'll set aside the question of where did almost 15 thousand feet of water go and simply focus on the sentient floods ability to put animals in layers that perfectly mimics the geologic time scale that science has shown us to be a fact.
