As scary as it was to watch Jordan walk away at Springer Mountain, I can't imagine her life without this adventure. She met so many great people and saw so much. She was way happier than she ever could have been sitting in a desk for another semester of highschool. We have an amazing daughter 💖
Jordan, I've followed you journey since you started in GA and thought you were always genuine in what was going on and the videos are great. I also think that if this is what she can accomplish before college, the world should watch out for what you can accomplish going forward! The AT is a pretty awesome warm-up for adulting.
Pig Pen! This is Lost In Town. Loved the interview. You have great parents....not a surprise after getting to meet and hike with you. Didn't have the opportunity to see you in Maine, so here's a belated CONGRATULATIONS! Bet of luck at college this fall. You will crush it just like you did the AT.
I hope this helps . . . for parents of young people thinking about (more or less solo) hiking the AT. It is pretty safe to hike the AT, if you avoid the bears, rattlers, and maybe a moose . . . or slippery rocks and anything else that could go wrong on a thru-hike ;-)
Pig Pen, Happy to see you posting again. Wow what an interesting post AT perspective to interview your parents about how they came to felt about their soon to be graduating High School daughter go to Thru Hike 2198.4 miles of the Appalachian Trail starting off totally by her self. Great interview great questions. Great answers by your parents. You can see your mannerisms in the mannerisms of your mother as she answered questions. Please keep thinking about other videos to post. I’d like to know how are you prepared for the AT, DID YOU ALWAYS BACKPACK AND HIKE BEFORE GOING OR DID YOU TAKE TIME TO DO SOME LONG HIKE 10 MILES THAT MAY BE 15 AND DID YOU EVER DO A 20 MILE HIKE BEFORE YOU SET FOOT ON THE AT? I asked this because I’m 71 years old and considering at least section hiking the AT, possibly all of Virginia, but with a hope that I somehow might be able to do the entire trail.😊
pigpen, your parents are awesome like you! 🙌 as the strangely observant person i am, I spy a mizzou hoodie, a 6666 canoe, beautiful dining set, and hammock on a pretty porch. love, love, love how you and your parents choose to focus on the positivity of the Appalachian trail and life in general! 🙌 agreed, route 66 and your mother's desire to have a more comfortable adventure are excellent ideas 😊
Of the hundreds of RUclips thru hikes I have watched, I'm pretty sure you are the youngest solo thru-hiker. I think the next youngest was maybe about 23. This type of activity seems to appeal more to people closer to 30 and even 40. Plus you actually finished your hike, and didn't skip any of it.

OK, that was just for fun, having a good sleep system (comfortable and temperature wise) is way more important.

After you start your thru-hike, be sure to watch for yellow blazes. Those mark the boundary of federally owned AT land.
Thanks! I already completed the AT. This was them talking about my thru hike that I finished in July😊
Great 👍 😊
