Thanks for the video. Would it be a problem to soak your irons in vinegar w the shafts in? I don’t know how to reshaft and don’t want to pay to have it done
I have an old set of Ben hogans from 1969 and 1961. And I’m having trouble getting it looks like nickel spots. How do I get it off without getting the chrome off?
Awesome! What would be the cheapest way to get the chrome plating off a traditional blade? I am looking for a dark finish. Got a quote on copper plating today here in New Zealand, $200 a head???!!!???
Great tip! Can you do this without taking the heads off? I have some TM MG2’s that the black finish is wearing on the soles, may as well make the whole wedge the same!
Idk if you have a video on this but any idea to do the reverse haha - my black Cobras are pretty worn and I want to bring back that deep black colour. Any suggestions?
Josh Luther definitely just protect that ferrule! Don’t let it deep into the hosel and don’t let it hit the ferrule. It’ll eat it. Soften it. So be careful!
Hey dude! It won’t work on that putter because that putter has a different type of black finish. Think of it as a black satin chrome. It’s pretty permanent.
Hey awesome video! Do you think this would work on a putter? I have a taylormade ghost that the white has seen better days. I want to remove the white and spray it a different colour.
Yes!! Thank you for the encouraging words man!! As far as chrome, send to Golfworks OR my friend at @the_golf_garage (on Instagram). They’ll strip it....he strip it and refinish!
Sweet video. I know you said this won’t work on Chrome but will it work on something more Satin? I have an older set of Cobra S3 Pros I’d like to make raw if this will work.
Hunter Spiri damn! Wouldn’t work on satin either because it’s considered more of a plated finish. Would need to send to Golfworks or The Golf Garage to get them done. Depends on how bad a$$ you wanna make em!
Hey! Great video. I have a Calloway x forge wedge that is very bright chrome. I want to raw the face and the back. Would I need to soak in a different chemical since we are not just talking paint? Thanks
Man...unfortunately that one wouldn't work with this trick. Would need to actually get the chrome stripped! I don't have any at-home tricks for that one! Ha!
I've got these irons. Bought them because of black finish. But as with most things. I'm sure I'll get bored with them at some point, and at that point... hello vinegar.
I’m having a set of 712 CB’s stripped right now professionally. But do you think the Ben Hogan ft worth irons with the black finish will do this ? Thanks. Great vid
@@tylercollins6654 for what? To make them raw? Take them to a chrome shop and have them remove the chrome? That’s about it. Chrome has weight though so you’re gonna def mess up the weight if the head.
I just bought the new King Forged MB’s. Was wondering if the 48 hour vinegar trick would work on them, or is the newer black finish that cobra makes stronger/more resistant to vinegar than in previous years? Thanks
@@williambardol3895 they did eventually. The dryer you keep them the longer they will take to rust. If they ever get too brown for you liking, you can put them back in the vinegar for some time and theyll return to rustless raw
What do you do once you have the raw finish to get that copper rusty look? Just let it to that over time? If you do more to intentionally put the rust/patina on it, should you do paintfill before or after? thanks!
you can get a pair of pliers and a blow torch and hold it to the flame until it changes colors (brown copper look not guaranteed, sometimes it will turn blue). I did this to an old putter of mine and it turned out really cool. Otherwise it will just rust over time. always paint fill last.
Miles_Martin_Golf yes you can do it with a shaft but be careful not to hit the ferrule! Just be cautious and don’t over fill your tub of vinegar or CLR! (And I’ll check into the kids stuff! Thanks!)
What about chrome irons to a brushed finish? Could you make a how to video?
Thanks for the video. Would it be a problem to soak your irons in vinegar w the shafts in? I don’t know how to reshaft and don’t want to pay to have it done
Does this work for putters? I have an old tp Mills that the chrome is flaking off and need to do something with it
Really want to try this on my srixon zx7s. Wonder if it will work
I have an old set of Ben hogans from 1969 and 1961. And I’m having trouble getting it looks like nickel spots. How do I get it off without getting the chrome off?
Will this work on Vokey Jet Black wedges? Can I keep the shafts on? Will it effect the shafts or Ferrules?
@@mitchtaylor332 potentially will work on those vokey’s. Only Jet Black though. Don’t soak the ferrule. It’ll get eaten for sure.
Awesome! What would be the cheapest way to get the chrome plating off a traditional blade? I am looking for a dark finish. Got a quote on copper plating today here in New Zealand, $200 a head???!!!???
lol for real? god damn im looking into it myself and didn't know it was that expensive!
Will this work on Callaway’19 rogue irons?
Would this work with the Cobra copper finish?
Great tip! Can you do this without taking the heads off? I have some TM MG2’s that the black finish is wearing on the soles, may as well make the whole wedge the same!
Does vinegar work for taking off the finish on chrome irons?
I’m thinking about trying this... nothing better to do! I’ve got an old Mizuno s5 with the white satin finish, do you think this will work on it?
Ellian Ascencio dang! I don’t think it will. That satin is basically a way of saying “satin CHROME” and that’s a plated finish.
Would this work on Vokey SM8 jet black?
You’re a natural entertainer! Huge opportunities are going to open up for you in the near future!
Does this method work on the KING FORGED TEC BLACK ONE LENGTH?
Love this video, I wish I were in the US and pay you a visit and build my combo set
Is it ordinary vinegar that you can by in a food store please..?
Yup! White vinegar!
@@bryangolf great I’m set to go got 24% ättika (swedish name;) ) steelwool yeah😀👊 Thanks👍
How can I remove the black finish from the face if my drivers?
Idk if you have a video on this but any idea to do the reverse haha - my black Cobras are pretty worn and I want to bring back that deep black colour. Any suggestions?
Can you do this with cast stainless irons??
I have the Cobra Forged Tour. How do I get rid of the orange stripe? Is it a sticker or paint. I was rubbing with acetone, nothing happened.
Hi, would it also work with cleveland rtx zipcore black wedges ?
What would you need to do if the shafts are installed? Will that damage the shafts?
Josh Luther definitely just protect that ferrule! Don’t let it deep into the hosel and don’t let it hit the ferrule. It’ll eat it. Soften it. So be careful!
Bryan Golf what would be the best way to protect the ferrule?
bstup just don’t let it get under the vinegar. Like a kid keeping its head above water in the pool! Haha!
can any1 help me i have a set of vega alcor black wedges and i want to take them back to a raw finish ? how is best to do that ?
I tried this with my black Cleveland putter and it didn’t work. I even used paint remover and still nothing. Idk what else to do.
Hey dude! It won’t work on that putter because that putter has a different type of black finish. Think of it as a black satin chrome. It’s pretty permanent.
Would this work on the black forged Tec irons? Very similar to the CBs, but they’ve got the black plate on the back
will the vinegar corrode the inside of the hosel? or did you cover it up? Appreciate it Bryan!
Didn't corrode the inside!
what do you do about hosels if club head is already shafted?
Will this work on my Cleveland cg wedges in the smoke finish?
James Fleming sadly no 😪
Any idea how to get that smoke finish off?
Will more spin be generated by removing the finish?
Cole Ardoline because of rust no. Because of less material between the ball and the grooves, potentially yes! 💪🏼
Any tips to remove the paintfill without tarnishing the black finish?
Did this change the head weight much?
Awesome video man! Would this process also work on the Cobra PUR-S Black wedges?
Do I have to take the head off the shaft?
Will the steel wool damage the grind on the wedges?
Fabio Helgerud nope!!! Very safe!!!
Will this work with chrome?
Nope. :(
Hey awesome video! Do you think this would work on a putter? I have a taylormade ghost that the white has seen better days. I want to remove the white and spray it a different colour.
Would it work on a original hi-toe wedge
Mark Capo unfortunately no as that finish is a plating and would need be removed by a professional
This works with MG2 wedge and MG wedges ?
Mark Capo yup! As long as they’re BLACK! 💪🏼
Bryan Golf thanks
That. Is. Awesome! I cannot wait to try this!!
Let me know how it goes!!!
Can you do this with the shaft in?
Oyefule Femi you can! Be careful not to soak past where the ferrule meets the hosel though! Just in case.
@@bryangolf I have Taylor made psi irons, they're forged, do you think they will work?
Oyefule Femi dang man those won’t work as it’s plated metal. Needs to be non plated. No chrome. No shiny finish. Nothing like that.
Will this work on the nike vapor pro irons?
Mike Hernandez unfortunately no. You’d have to get them professionally redone.
Would it take off the paint fill atleast?
What did u soak the steel wool in?
doing this to my black forged tec right now
How did it turn out
What steel wool did you use? Or is it all the same?
can you do this method with 21 P790 heads?
Unfortunately not even a little bit
Could you do this with the shafts still attached?
Evan Paskalis yes but be careful not to let it hit the ferrule!
Evan paskalis I would recommend putting tape preferably painters tape around the ferrule
Will this work on the smoke RTX4 wedges? Mine are in desperate need of a change of look!
Sm7 Jet Black wedged work? Also can the sand paper work if we don’t have that thing you’re scrubbing with??
Hayden Winch yes it’ll work and the sandpaper may scratch it up! Maybe use a scotch brite pad?
Yeah I’ll try that out! Thanks man
Very cool man! May have to try this
JevansGolf you should dip your face in the vinegar and see if it makes you a raw man! 😜💪🏼
Any idea how you would change this to strip a chrome finish?

Hi great video! I was just wondering would this work on my black oxide finished wedges?
Im pretty sure I saw somewhere that Oven Cleaner instead of Vinegar will strip chrome by using your same soak method.
Got my wedges in vinegar can't wait to see what they come out like
