Since 1980s, Reagan revolution, manufacturing declined and over-financialization of US economy has brought America to brink of collapse. Ronald Reagan's economic policies may be right for his time but since he introduced them, Republicans have clung to them ultra-rigidly. Democrats followed too by a new generation of New Democrats. Result? Near destruction of American social and economic life while rise of an aggressive China hell-bent on global domination. At least, now abandon those disproven economic libertarian policies which Reagan pioneered and all Republicans and most Democrats then followed. If conservatives still don't abandon blind-eye worship of free market/trade and recognize that an healthy state intervention was always part of American System before Reagan, not outlier, only then we will avoid on 1 October 2049 a Chinese economy four times of America's and a Chinese military which vastly outspends US military, like US has always done, and a world in which China is permanent global hyperpower and US, although strong, is vastly less powerful than China. If United States has to balance Chinese economic juggernaut, it must out-innvoate China. China's population of 1.4 billion is an imposible barrier for America to match economically with its 330 million population. Only when US revolutionizes aerospace, AI, quantum computing, genetics, IoT, robotics and semiconductors and then completely dominates them and produces them in US (not like invent in US, manufacture in China), America will have a shot at stopping Chinese economic dominance. And that requires a national commitment like Apollo program of Kennedy or Reagan's SDI and robust funding like 1 trillion dollars over 10 years. Now conservatives can't imagine 1 trillion dollars spent on "market intervention by government". They can't even imagine even 1 billion dollars while they invest 800 billion dollars per yeaf on a Cold War styled military. They regard any public investment as "waste/overreach". America won 20st century economically and militarily only because it held world's top technological superpower status, which in turn was fueled by massive R&D spending by federal government after WW2 inventing everything from chip to MRI to supercomputer to moon landing to solar cell to vaccines to internet to telecommunications to genome sequencing to fighter jets to televisions to you name it. That was common good capitalism as some conservatives now urge to return to. Sticking to narrow mentality of "market is GOD" has left America behind China already in so many fields and if left unchecked, America will become a Chinese economic colony like it already is, but in basic manufacturerd goods, but in future, in high-tech goods as well. 5G and Huewai are great examples. I am a moderate Democrat and I am not crazy left. I want best for America, as my fellow Democrats want. We don't want to end American way of life, as conservatives depict of Democrats. Yes there are bad elements in our party but they are manageable. But look at your party. It has become a cult around Trump. Cmon wake up, before America is an inferior power to China. If Republicans abandon dogma of free market/trade and adopt healthy industrial policy, moderate Democrats like me will happily join you. It's up to you.
