Quang Ho was born on April 30, 1963, in Hue, Vietnam. He Immigrated to the United States in 1975. His artistic interest began at the early age of three and continued through grade school, high school, and art school and led him to an exciting and successful painting profession. In 1980, at the age of 16, Quang held his first solo show at Tomorrow’s Masters Gallery in Denver, Colorado. The exhibit was a big success for the high school sophomore. In 1982, Quang’s mother was killed in a tragic auto accident, leaving him the responsibility of raising four younger brothers and a six-year-old sister. That same year, Quang attended the Colorado Institute of Art on a National Scholastics Art Awards Scholarship. At CIA, Quang studied painting under Rene Bruhin, whom Quang credits with developing the foundation for his artistic understanding. Ho graduated from CIA in 1985 with Best Portfolio Award for the graduating class.
He is a much sought-after teacher and lecturer on art and has won numerous prestigious awards nationally from the Artists of America to the Oil Painters of America exhibits. He has held a retrospective exhibit at the Steamboat Springs Museum of Art and has held shows at the Woolaroc Museum as well as the Booth Museum of Western Art. Quang enjoys reading philosophy and science, playing guitar and golf, and he finds time to hunt for fossils and forage for mushrooms.
Quang Ho is a living treasure. All of his series are gorgeous. And, a studio(s) to fill the soul.🎨♥
The most fearless painter I know!
I second that!
One of the best interviews I've heard on your podcast. So many painters can't communicate, but Quang Ho was great.
Quang is brilliant in more way than one.
What a nice man, so glad we got this chance to meet him. Thank you for the great questions you asked. The studio tour was a bonus.
One of the best artists and people I ever met(I am 78) and have learned so much today! Will paint again! I met him at a workshop of the masters and bought one of his videos!
So much helpful information, enriched by his life experiences. Great conversation!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you . I felt Quang's love and excitement for painting so much, that I started to sketch while watching 😂 love his work!
Wow. What an exceptional human being. The quintessential curious artist. Thank you Quang , and thank you Jeff ! It's going to take awhile to process all of that one!
Quang ho IS exceptional for sure.
Genuinely enjoyed this conversation. You both created a really thoughtful and generous conversation! It's very much appreciated-- Feeling inspired!
This was the best podcast! I have been struggling with the gallery push to to have one thing you do good to be there. I continue to do many different styles. What drives me is the essence of the subject. To see an artist plow forward and constantly explore is very reaffirming to keep on doing what I do. Freedom! I appreciate how thoughtful your podcast is to dig deeper into the subject by asking the right questions. Thank you! Quang’s paintings rock!
Thanks Jeff for these podcasts!! God bless the internet !! Quang Ho's art work is spectacular and he hides nothing about his methods and ideas. You both have a great personality especially in sharing. Cheers and God bless !!
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you!
There are so many takeaways here. I love the way he owns his concepts.
Awesome interview ! Been a fan of Quang Ho for quite some time .I believe God rewarded him for never giving up in spite of some pretty tough personal experiences. He never lost faith about a better future.
He is so prolific, and he continues to grow and evolve. I love that he is not content to stick to one style. This was a great interview. So inspiring!
Glad you enjoyed it! He is amazing!
Quong Ho is a new hero for me! He is amazing! Loving these podcasts so much, thanks Jeff!
Thanks so much and thanks for the comment!
What a fabulous interview! You certainly know the questions to ask! IThis is SO Inspiring! You both have encouraged me to explore more!
One of the best art interviews I've seen, definitely going to go through a lot of your other videos now. Your ability to actually ask "how and why" questions was incredibly refreshing, Most interviewers are so pressed with asking a million questions they never follow up on an answer to get even deeper responses from the artist.
Formidable, thank you both.
Absolutely great interview, very inspiring!
Quong Ho.. painting without any fear!
These interviews have been amazing. I’ve learned so much and been encouraged. Jeff, you are perfect at this. Is there anything you can’t do?
Thanks Elizabeth! Im flattered. I enjoy it so I'm glad I'm ok at it because I don't plan on quitting. It is so fulfilling.
Inspirational and enlightening
I love your podcast! You ask excellent questions and I like your interjections - not frequent or intrusive - of your own experience or take on things, which is fresh and a little different from everyone else’s.
Thanks Barbara! You’re the best!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I SO needed to hear this conversation. We tend to get bogged down and beaten over the head with, pick one thing and master it…find your audience…etc., etc. I need to be more trusting of my “Spiritual downloads”, and go for it!!! Blessings to you both! 🙏💕. P.S. Class of ‘82 RULES!! LOL 😆
Eve a great story!❤
Great interview. I was previously unaware of his artwork. Truly amazing in the variety of styles and his experimental/inquisitive mindset. I am a self-taught painter going on two years with no ambition to sell painting but only to enjoy the process. What I most love to do is switch between a loose approach to a tighter one. The learning is its own reward.
I am really enjoying this series of interviews. Quant Ho is a favorite of mine also. Thank you for doing these interviews. You ask questions artists want to hear.
Incredible ❤
Great interview, greetings from Ecuador 🇪🇨
Really interesting and covered a lot of ground. Nice connection between you both too. Thanks
Thanks Jeff - these videos are sooo wonderful to inspire and educate. I must have watched thousands of art videos but nothing compares to these interviews. I hope you can find the time/energy to continue to make some.
This is insane. Thank you both for creating this!
Late to the podcast. Love it. The topic of style and originality made me think of this great quote from CS Lewis.
"Even in literature and art, no man who bothers about originality will ever be original: whereas if you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”
You find style without searching for it. If you even care to find it.
Hope you can keep these conversations going.
Quang Ho - so interesting. I love your explanations and understanding :)
What a fabulous interview. Thank you so much for your podcast.
I learned so much. Your conversation was a rich one and reinforced the fact that pursuing what we love and excites us is paramount to our practise. Quang’s genuine passion for his subject matter is evident in every brushstroke. Such beautiful work.
Thank you so much for your comment. Im so glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic episode, very inspiring and one of the better art podcast to really get to the view point of being an artist
Love this podcast
Amazing and super inspiring interview!
So much amazing information!! 👏
Painting for the market, to sell, do you find that is the same if you have a commission? Does your work not come out as good if you paint it for a commission?
"finding your style" For me as an older person it is the Beatles you know it is the beatles but every album is a different sound. There are many bands and painters that paint or sing the same offering it is authentic it just is a "style". No one could be more authentic than Francis Bacon but one might see his work as the same painting just a different subject. And once again I am not an artist however I am working my way through your catalogue of videos so entertaining .
I've pulled out "stuffed away paintings" and thought "wow, that's much better then I remembered". After looking at it for days I've started to hate on it again.
1. Light and Shadow 2. Silhouettes 3. Local Tone - What is the 4th type?
For some reason the link to his website is not working.
Thank you for telling me. I checked and it is a correct address. His website appears to be down right now.
