After we made this ridiculous long list ruclips.net/video/BwDC641THHw/видео.html thinking it would be a one off, you guys asked for more all encompassing lists so we thought why not! We started with one of my favourite genres which is Metroidvanias and I got James & Jordan in on the action. We worked super hard on this and tried our very best to include as many Metroidvania games here so you will find something you like. If you can do us a favour we would be greatful. If you enjoy our work please smash that like button and the best thing you can do is share videos like this with a friend or 10! You have no idea how much it helps and we appreciate your help very much. On that note please do let the community know if we missed any games that should be here and if we should do more lists like this! Thank you all. Juan, James & Jordan
Love this list! Easily the most comprehensive list of the genre that has, in many ways, come to define the Switch. MAJOR props for getting Touhou Luna Nights in there, stellar game! I would say that there are five games that should be on list that are out that have enough Metroidvania elements that they should be on this list! 1- Phoenotopia Awakening, not a lot of people picked this up on release and it's a huge shame, the game is an absolute masterpiece. It's not a straight metroidvania as there is an overworld that connects areas (like zelda 2), but there is ability gated progression with huge amounts of exploration, secrets, fantastic boss fights, honestly a hidden gem given how few people seem to have actually bought it. 2- Unworthy, shadowy, souls-like metroidvania with a focus on tough combat and unique weaponry. 3- Grizzland- really cool short metroidvania done up in Atari-age graphics that is a lot of fun. 4- Alwa's Legacy: SNES-style sequel to Alwa's Awakening. 5- Cathedral- newly released NES style adventure set in a crumbling cathedral, fantastic old-school fun! A few upcoming Metroidvanias to look out for this year- The Last Faith, super traditional castlevania style metroidvania. Gestalt: Steam and Cinder, a steampunk metroidvania with some gorgeous pixel art, Greak: Memories of Azur, a 3 party platform exploration game with metroidvania elements, Rune Fencer Illyia, a sword and sorcery metroidvania, and Rubi: The Wayward Mira, a really cool fantasy sci-fi metroidvania set in a dystopian future. In 2022: Vernal Edge, a fast-paced metroidvania focusing on some really cool looking swordplay, and Savior, a gorgeously realized bo-staff combat metroidvania that has one of the most impressive and immersive trailers I've ever seen.
I had an idea the other day. You know how you can use AI now to paint pictures and write books? Well... How about a multiplayer AI created metroidvania! You describe your character, and the AI creates a totally unique and different character with unique abilities for every person. Like "collects the 78 cards of the tarot and combines them to use different spells and abilities." Or "lovecraftian sorcerer evoking creatures of evil and invoking them to gain great power." The AI could continuously generate new areas and items so that the game becomes limitless, meanwhile the world at large attempts to overcome great challenges, such as defeating a super boss together to open up new portions of the multiplayer world. Also, i don't know if it's possible, but i would love if you could just tell the AI to make "Alucard from symphony of the night" or our favorite nail welding bug smasher et cetera, but i dunno how that would work. I would want smash brothers style PVP added also. Fellas, this would be the game of my dreams... Literally. That's where i got the idea.

I've gone MetroidVania crazy this week. Picked up Castlevania Anniversary, Dead Cells, Blasphemous, 2 Bloodstained games, F.I.S.T. and now I've found several I never heard of but need from this video.
I specifically collect Switch Metroidvainias so this list was helpful in letting me know about a few I didn't know about!! Thank you for this list. If you guys want to make a part 2 I have a comprehensive list of Metroidvainias that are out Physically, digitally and coming soon to Switch that roughly doubles this list that I don't mind sharing with you guys. Also ❤ you guys gained a subscriber.
Fantastic list. One I can think of to add would be Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth. It's short and sweet and somehow brings Ikaruga-like mechanics into the genre. You have two states you can swap between that provide different attacks and immunities while feeding each other, creating a really neat action experience. It inherits a LOT from Symphony of the Night, too. Highly recommended.
Another upcoming great one: Aeterna Noctis. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I also recently finished Ender Lilies and I absolutely love it from start to finish. An easy 10/10 for me and one of the top 10 in the genre.
If you are playing Guacamelee 1 & 2 you should join NindieNations youtube channel he is doing a Backlog Playthrough & for the first game Guacamelee was chosen. We are all playing it & talking about it on his Discord channel as well.
Ghost 1.0, Dead or School? Fall of Light? Grimvalor? Hyper Light Drifter? Mindseize, Minoria? Planet Alpha? Slain? Vigil? lots of "?" because the term "metroidvania" had been watered down (not in a bad way) by so many games with those elements added though their neither really a metroid or castlevania game, but still fun.
There is a good few in our list that have elements of Metroidvania games but are not full on Metroidvanias in the true sense but we wanted to include them. As you say the term has been watered down over the years. Slain and Valfaris some others we would describe more as Action Platformers. Thanks for the comment, really glad you like Narita Boy from another comment you made. We love that game
English is not my main language and I hardly speak it, so I don't usually comment on videos. But this one needs a huge thanks; Thank you guys! Awesome list.
I’ve watched this video like 10 times lol, i always find a new metroidvania to give a shot, some of my favorite surprises were GatoRoboto, Blaster Master zero, and Dandara
Monster boy, what a game. I bought it originally cos it is essentially a remake of Wonderboy 3 the trap on the master system, a game that held many memories from my childhood
Oh no you're going to make me count mine as well now 😖 I know I haven't got anywhere near 22 tho! 🙌🏼 What are your favourites (besides the obvious)! Edit: 6 ...it didn't take long. Quite pathetic really 😒😆
Just had to count, too! I have almost all of them with digital + physical combined, but only counting physicals I have 31 of them. I wish they all had a physical!
Love these big game filled videos. Always make my wishlist grow and I just keep buying games and playing one or two lol. I have nearly 100 Switch games now.
@@SwitchWatch It might not be to everyone, but as a physical collector I will take the help wherever I can to keep the best games categorized! Thank you guys for all you do!
I used to think I didn't like metroidvanias , but after playing some great ones mentioned on your list, I realized I just don't like 2D Metroid and Castlevania games, ironically
26:40 Here’s me playing Super Daryl Deluxe expecting wind and heat and smells to come through my machine because you said there were 4D skills & abilities
Blasphemous has had a couple of content updates recently that added alot since its initial release. It sucked me back in to beat it and finish new game plus, and I'll probably play thru it again. Really enjoyed that game!
Shantae and the pirates curse It's absolutely one of the best games I have ever played. I was embarrassed every time anyone got near and saw me playing it and eventually I loved it so much I didn't give a shit I'd wear a goddamn Shante costume to the store to show my love of the game if i had one right now. The other games not so much but holy moly the pirate's cursed was the bee's knees
if it matters I'll 2nd the hype and praise heaped onto Narita Boy. only issue is the way "jump" feels. floaty, but easily controlled after a short time.
You are most welcome buddy, Slain and Valfaris are two of my favourite games. Although I would not say they are Metroidvania games. More Action Platformers. They would certainly make that list!
Sorry if I am bothering you but I wish you guys would leave the name of the game up while you are showing it. I am constantly having to rewind to see the name of the game after watching a preview that I like. Thanks guys!
The next video you need to do is the second part with: -Vigil -Megaman ZX - yestermorrow - inmost - Gleamlight - Greak _ Celeste - the 9 years of shadows (new one in this dec) - Eternal Noctis (New one in this dec) - the last faith (new one in this dec) - Scrowcown (The next year) - Metroid dread (the next oct) This ones and maybe other more.
This a really great list and my wallet is not impressed by all the games I’ve now added to the wishlist. I can only be glad I own quite a few of them already. Although not shown in the list, I have to vouch for Finding Teddy 2 and Cathedral. I think they’re both very well metroidvanias. Regardless, this was awesome. Thank you again for another great video.
Got 20 of them and I was quite surprised at that, think you added another 10 or so to my wish list, Does Hades not count, seems very similar to Dead Cells (not that it needs a mention anywhere now, everyone must be aware of it).💜
Cheers buddy, Hades is a great game, not a Metroidvania though, Dead Cells makes it but only just. Not strictly a Metroidvania either but has a few things you can argue it in for. Thanks pal
Fantastic video guys! This is my favorite video that your group has put together. So many of my Top 10 Switch games here with The Messenger, Ori, Dead Cells, Hollow Knight and Guacamelee. I really wish Shadow Complex would come to the Switch some day as well. Well done and thank you!
When you make fun of "What comes next? Pinballvania!?" around 21:25 I immediately thought of Yoku's Island Express, which is indeed just that - a combination of pinball and metroidvania. You might check it out...
Such a great list! I honestly couldn't think of any game that you may have left out. I think you guys helped me discover this genre and ever since being sucked in I haven't been able to get enough ;) Kinda funny that I own like 95% of these games either physically or digitally ;) Love the work!!!
@@SwitchWatch Goodness gracious, I had to go back and count and I actually "own" 45 of the games on this list. Some of which obviously are unobtainable **Eagerly anticipating Silksong and will definitely be a day one purchase no matter what the cost**
I would appreciate it very much if the title to the game could remain faded in. Because only when you have heard the comments and seen the game scenes you know if it interests you. But then you no longer know, what was it now? Overall a very nice overview, thanks very much 👍
do you think that on the next BEST video you can put the name of the game in one of the corners? took me about 45 mins to watch the video because i kept having to rewind to the beginning of each clip to get the full name and correct spelling. great video and you guys are awesome.
So many great games that I have and have not finished. Top of my to play list are Shantae 1/2 genie hero, Mummy Demastered, Messanger and Owlboy. Should of titled video “Metroidvania’s on Backlog”
Feudal Alloy has some great potential. I feel they missed a lot of great opportunities with that game. The world and animation in general is so clean and good, it's almost like an Adventure Time setting. Unfortunately it just felt like it was missing something I really hope someday they do a revamp, much like how Deaths Gambit was revamped. It just needs a few new abilities and features to really make it stand out
@@SwitchWatch The last one I bought was an indie game where you are a little girl who can summon people to fight for you. Looks really good. It's truly the golden age of metroidvania games.
Edit: ❤️! You know who I am 😉 Uhm, alwa’s legacy? I was waiting for it after alwa’s awakening, but it went straight to axiom verge. That is a serious oversight 😉
You guys are awesome. Love your reviews and all of your lists. As an old school metroidvania gamer I always look for the next one to play and appreciate that your lists always keep me up to date. Keep up the good work guys.
Nice video and great llist. I would personally add Rabi Ribi, I think most people forget that game exists, but it's one of the best metroidvanias on the system.
@SwitchWatch thanks for the video guys xD i just managed to pick up guacameele championship edition for 5€ instead of 17 just at 1 minute left for the sale lul lucky me thanks a lot im looking forward to this
❤ So many titles, one of my favourite genres and I've got the top ones! Steamworld Dig 2 was the first game I bought on the eshop and was pleasantly surprised. Completed both Ori games (both epic) and crazily Hollow Knight is in my backlog but I revisit it now and again. Tricky but beautiful, I'll complete it one day if I get past the final level I've seen on YT...looks almost impossible though 🤯
Great list. Adding more games for the back log. As a physical collector there are more than a handful of games on this list that I am guilty of double dipping on.
❤️ love Dust! Thinking Void should have been added. But there is a wide selection. Found games that I don’t have 😅. So time to log in and buy some games.
Thanks for the list! For future lists I would like a bottom bar with info about the game: name, price, physical (yes/no) Also if you could do a roguelite/like list.. would be amazing
Awesome, we usually put in info like that, with a list like this though it took a week to make. So we decided something had to give to cut down in editing time. We will see what we can do if we make another.

The fact that we still don't have a Metroid game to put on a list like this breaks my heart.. awesome list and video as always though!!
yea... what the heck? why hasn't Nintendo put out a new Metroid game specifically for the Switch? so weird...

Just getting into Metroidvanias and this is by far the best list I've come across so far. I look forwards to trying some of these out.
Rabi ribi is also a really good bullet hell metroidvania and tends to get overlooked
Had a lot of mentions of that. We will have to check that one out!
I stayed awake to watch the whole video. Took over an hour to watch, rewind to see the name, look it up on my Switch. Whew, hard work!
Phoenotopia Awakening is so little talked about and criminally underrated, definitely would have made this list!

Wow that's a lot of games. That could be a video!
@@SwitchWatch I've began compiling about 100 GBS of captures from my Switch Micro SD Cards.
This list was RIGHT on time. Was looking for some metroidvanias and BOOM this list shows up. Cheers.
You are most welcome
I wish this video had the distinction of letting us know what games can be found physically :( beyond that excellent content guys!
We will try on the next one if that is important to you guys.
@@SwitchWatch It might not be to everyone, but as a physical collector I will take the help wherever I can to keep the best games categorized! Thank you guys for all you do!
@@grimmftw8044 Totally understand buddy. Thanks for the feedback & support
Aww man I gotta put the kids to bed early tonight, can't wait to watch this!!!
Thank you buddy, the kids are more important, the video will wait 😃
The Last Faith looks promising. Since interlocking maps counted, Cyber Shadow.
I used to think I didn't like metroidvanias , but after playing some great ones mentioned on your list, I realized I just don't like 2D Metroid and Castlevania games, ironically
Fair enough buddy, there are lots of different ones which is good
Huge help, it made me discover several interesting games. Now to just wait for them to go on sale...can't buy everything at once.
26:40 Here’s me playing Super Daryl Deluxe expecting wind and heat and smells to come through my machine because you said there were 4D skills & abilities
surprasingly entertaining video love you narration. And timecodes.
Thanks buddy 😃👍
Love these lists! You guys are awesome for these!
Glad you like it buddy!
Phoenotopia Awakening should be on the list! OMG that game is godly1
Thanks for letting us know! Not played that one so will gladly check it out!
Blasphemous has had a couple of content updates recently that added alot since its initial release. It sucked me back in to beat it and finish new game plus, and I'll probably play thru it again. Really enjoyed that game!
Awesome!
Padded my wishlist for sure 🤍
Thanks Austin
Got all but four of the released games. Agree with people that Outbuddies DX, Wuppo and Finding Teddy II deserves a place on this list.
That is a lot of games! Thanks very much and agree would have been nice to include those. Next year!
@@SwitchWatch Haven't finished most of them, lol, but I did finish Narita Boy! Awesome game but not a metroidvania.
Dammit y couldn't I give this more likes
Thank you buddy. Appreciate it a lot
What brilliantly comprehensive and superbly well put together list. Thank you for your hard work. 🙏🏻
if it matters I'll 2nd the hype and praise heaped onto Narita Boy. only issue is the way "jump" feels. floaty, but easily controlled after a short time.
We loved Narita boy. In my review we have it high praise and the only slight negative was exactly what you mentioned.
Valfaris !! That’s a great one you forgot! Thanks a lot for the amazing list !!
You are most welcome buddy, Slain and Valfaris are two of my favourite games. Although I would not say they are Metroidvania games. More Action Platformers. They would certainly make that list!
@@SwitchWatch Agree :) Can’t wait for more of these lists ! Even if 30min long they are so comprehensive, entertaining and terribly useful ! Cheers :)
@@fra2817 I think we are going to make more as you guys seem to enjoy them and we like making these longer comprehensive lists. Thanks again
@@SwitchWatch EPIC !!
Sorry if I am bothering you but I wish you guys would leave the name of the game up while you are showing it. I am constantly having to rewind to see the name of the game after watching a preview that I like. Thanks guys!
Seconded! It’s very handy for reference if the name of the game continued to be onscreen.
You guys awesome I love metroidvanias picked a couple off the list
Awesome! Which ones?
The next video you need to do is the second part with:
-Vigil
-Megaman ZX
- yestermorrow
- inmost
- Gleamlight
- Greak
_ Celeste
- the 9 years of shadows (new one in this dec)
- Eternal Noctis (New one in this dec)
- the last faith (new one in this dec)
- Scrowcown (The next year)
- Metroid dread (the next oct)
This ones and maybe other more.
Well done Gents! Incredible video! Boom! I will definitely share this with lovers of the genre! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you buddy!
You are most welcome 👍
Got 20 of them and I was quite surprised at that, think you added another 10 or so to my wish list, Does Hades not count, seems very similar to Dead Cells (not that it needs a mention anywhere now, everyone must be aware of it).💜
Cheers buddy, Hades is a great game, not a Metroidvania though, Dead Cells makes it but only just. Not strictly a Metroidvania either but has a few things you can argue it in for. Thanks pal
My favorite genre! Thanks for doing this video and thanks for putting so much work into it. Absolutely a gem of a video!
Thank you Shawn, appreciate it a lot
❤️
Also, if I may, and hear me out on this one....metrougevania.....just sayin....
Ghost 1.0 was one of my first Switch buys. Great game.
Fantastic game
Fantastic video guys! This is my favorite video that your group has put together. So many of my Top 10 Switch games here with The Messenger, Ori, Dead Cells, Hollow Knight and Guacamelee. I really wish Shadow Complex would come to the Switch some day as well. Well done and thank you!
Thank you Lucas. Appreciate it very much!
I have to add Finding Teddy 2 onto the list guys. 💛💛💛
How is that game? I've had on my wishlist for a while now. Reminds me of phenotopia which I absolutely love
I got a physical copy. It's challenging, but in a rewarding way. Very innovative. Musical pitch plays a key role in puzzles.
Very cool game! Was extremely surprised.
Thank you Felice! Great call
Vigil - the longest night missing. But your list is great. Thx for all the work! ;-)
You are most welcome, thank you
When you make fun of "What comes next? Pinballvania!?" around 21:25 I immediately thought of Yoku's Island Express, which is indeed just that - a combination of pinball and metroidvania. You might check it out...
That was the joke 😃 👍
Should've waited until 29:57... :-D
@@dennisdeuster Cheers Dennis 👍😃
Such a great list! I honestly couldn't think of any game that you may have left out. I think you guys helped me discover this genre and ever since being sucked in I haven't been able to get enough ;) Kinda funny that I own like 95% of these games either physically or digitally ;) Love the work!!!
Awesome stuff buddy! Thank you for your support 👍
@@SwitchWatch Goodness gracious, I had to go back and count and I actually "own" 45 of the games on this list. Some of which obviously are unobtainable **Eagerly anticipating Silksong and will definitely be a day one purchase no matter what the cost**
❤️ - My favorite genre, thank you so much! I learned of a few new upcoming titles I’m excited for now!
You are most welcome!
I would appreciate it very much if the title to the game could remain faded in.
Because only when you have heard the comments and seen the game scenes you know if it interests you. But then you no longer know, what was it now?
Overall a very nice overview, thanks very much 👍
Cheers Paul, thanks very much for the feedback.
@@SwitchWatch | Immer gerne 😀
Nice!!! Thank you for this video ;-)
Wow, massive video! Thanks to you now I have quite a few options to play some metroidvanias on my twitch channel. Thanks!!
You are most welcome 👍
Best genre! Great to put so many games on one list guys!
Cheers buddy
Thinks for the video! Love the genre and it is awesome to have this compilation! ❤️
You are welcome
do you think that on the next BEST video you can put the name of the game in one of the corners? took me about 45 mins to watch the video because i kept having to rewind to the beginning of each clip to get the full name and correct spelling. great video and you guys are awesome.
So many great games that I have and have not finished. Top of my to play list are Shantae 1/2 genie hero, Mummy Demastered, Messanger and Owlboy.
Should of titled video “Metroidvania’s on Backlog”
I feel that buddy! So many great games that. I am trying to get through in spare time!
It just needs a few new abilities and features to really make it stand out
There needs to be a "internet database of metroidvanias" to keep track of all of them. I can't keep up.
Agree with you in this.
@@SwitchWatch The last one I bought was an indie game where you are a little girl who can summon people to fight for you. Looks really good. It's truly the golden age of metroidvania games.
No sir, you guys are legends.
Thanks buddy
Edit: ❤️! You know who I am 😉
Uhm, alwa’s legacy? I was waiting for it after alwa’s awakening, but it went straight to axiom verge. That is a serious oversight 😉
Absolutely the best switch review on yourube!! Thanks guys
Thanks very much indeed 👍
I didnt know how much of a Metroidvania fan I was until I realised that a I own a huge chunk of these games...
That's the thing sometimes you don't even realise till you see all the games you have.
You guys are awesome. Love your reviews and all of your lists. As an old school metroidvania gamer I always look for the next one to play and appreciate that your lists always keep me up to date. Keep up the good work guys.
Thank you buddy. Appreciate it very much
Nice video and great llist. I would personally add Rabi Ribi, I think most people forget that game exists, but it's one of the best metroidvanias on the system.
Awesome thank you!
@SwitchWatch thanks for the video guys xD i just managed to pick up guacameele championship edition for 5€ instead of 17 just at 1 minute left for the sale lul lucky me thanks a lot im looking forward to this
Absolute Bargain!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it buddy!
Excellent list for when I wonder what to play next. Greetings from Mexico.
Thank you Roo! Would love to visit Mexico!
Great work, guys! I'm taking quite a few recommendations for my download list.
❤️ great list, so many I’ve never heard of that look amazing. Thanks.
Great list. Adding more games for the back log. As a physical collector there are more than a handful of games on this list that I am guilty of double dipping on.
This is an epic list guys!
Appreciate it Brian
❤️ love Dust! Thinking Void should have been added. But there is a wide selection. Found games that I don’t have 😅. So time to log in and buy some games.
❤️ Appreciate the list! Thanks guys for the extensive research!
You are most welcome
Dark devotion is a must play. Real good.
Valfaris should be on here - I'm loving it
excellent list, lots of hard work has been put into this
I can’t wait for The Last Faith to be released. It definitely needs to be checked out
For sure!
❤️ great list! Can't wait for Silksong and personally the Shantae games are one of my favorite series of all time. Thanks!

YO! Nice! A really long video. Love it.
Hope you're doing well 🤙🤙
Awesome buddy, doing well mate although this video took a week so a bit tired lol
@@SwitchWatch Oh wow. Thanks for all your hard work! I'm happy you guys are still running the channel. 👍👍
Soo many great titles. I have a handful for sure, and plenty of the on the wish list.
Cheers Cory
Love these completist videos. Keep em coming!
Thank you very much
Quite a solid list, although the lack of Vigil: The Longest Night makes me really sad, even if it was fairly rough on launch.
Thanks Adam
Thanks for the list! For future lists I would like a bottom bar with info about the game: name, price, physical (yes/no)
Also if you could do a roguelite/like list.. would be amazing
Awesome, we usually put in info like that, with a list like this though it took a week to make. So we decided something had to give to cut down in editing time. We will see what we can do if we make another.
Yesssss what an upload! Cheers mates!
Thank you buddy!
Fantastic list guys!!! I added many to my wishlist:)❤️
