    Simple beauty. Norway's greatest Hardanger fiddle player Annbjørg Lien and-in my opinion-not just Sweden's but the world's greatest folk guitarist Roger Tallroth. Roger is a master of his art, both as player and composer, and his ability to transform a single repeated melody with a multitude of differently coloured harmonies is unsurpassed.

      Andrew Casson, you are so right... I don't know any other folk musician that is this good providing breath taking beautiful colourful string accompaniment... It is just out-of this-world! And Annbjørg Lien's playing -am talking about her tone and ornamentation - is just gorgeous! What a masterful string-duo this is!

    My God this is gorgeous.....
    It swept me into a state of thinking about all of my relatives that came before me...generations of two people meeting, falling in love, having children...
    And then those children finding someone to love, starting their own family...
    And the beautiful cycle of life repeats.
    Absolutely gorgeous.

    Annbjørg Lien: the hardingfele belongs to her as much as she belongs to her instrument. And the same quality is there when she plays with other musicians.
    This is why I love and admire her art.

    As a fiddle player myself, of Irish, Scottish, country and Norwegian styles, I’ve met many classical violinists who claim to “know it all”, and think all fiddlers must be “loose” or without any “rhyme or reason” to what we do… well, obviously, that’s not the case. Furthermore, look at Annbjørg’s bowing here. It’s honestly some of the tightest, most perfectly sequenced bowing I’ve ever seen, and she is like that on every tune. The up and down bows flow seamlessly between phrases, and are perfectly directed going in and out of them. And that would be the “goal”, I suppose, for any musician. To have flawless technique. But this is not a formally taught or structured style. Granted, the “loose” part about fiddle music is that there often doesn’t exist sheet music for the tunes, so we learn most music by simply listening and repeating, like a language or storytelling, with an instrument. So that may sound unstructured to some, but… while variations are inevitable from player to player, it’s not like some some dissonant cacophony, with bizarre bowing patterns, when we’re playing. Annbjørg! Need i say more!

    Very tight! The phrases are exactly blended, one on top of the other with barely a micro-second difference - if any. Really good! It's one thing to play with another person but another thing entirely to listen... and be right there! Thumbs up.

    Thank you so much. I've been creating my own list of songs and music that would make up the soundtrack of my life. This is definitely on it. Annbjorg being Norwegian, and my family being from Norway (100% as I understand). Can anyone say more about the song itself?!

      David Jordahl It is a tune written by the Swedish guitarist in the video, Roger Tallroth. He is a member of the fantastic trio Väsen, which you should definately check out.

    • @erikm8372
      @erikm8372 2 года назад +2

      Is it? I don't have an instrument handy to check, but I'm pretty sure Annbjørg (mainly) has her fiddle tuned BEBF# since she loves to play in E major. Hardangers are more like a 3/4 size violin, so that high tuning works... Maybe ADADAD works for accompanying that.
