- Graveyard of Dreams (short story) by H. Beam Piper
Despite Mr. Shakespeare, wealth and name are both dross compared with the theft of hope-- and Maxwell had to rob a whole planet of it!
Published February 1958 ~ Galaxy Science Fcition Развлечения
I bought this story as a paperback in the 1970s under the title _Junkyard Planet._ It was originally titled _The Cosmic Computer._ It’s a good read and a good listen. 🚀
My favorite reader, superb!
@@jonshepherd2550 I think so, very similar in any case 😊
The long version of this book is called " The Cosmic Computer ".
I prefer it.
Do love some cosmic headmaash at this time of year
1958 and 100 million cubic foot computers!
Why didn't they buy computer space on the cloud?

With absolutely enormous tailfins.
H Beam Piper....is some handle!
I do believe I read this when I still had hair. Isn't the second story part of the 'Space Viking' story arc?
Crystal Thompson Yes, I think the novel based on this story was the sequel to Space Viking. H.Beam Piper's alternative histories are quaint in some ways but still entertaining!
Was actually the prequel. In the novel the comp warns of collapse of TF. The Space Viking series was post collapse.
It is the same future history, but Space Vikings takes place centuries later.
So there was a lot there.
Aye just what Our Countries need to do now
Fall
Just a note ... it's not "Mont a VID ee oh", it's "Mont ay vee DAY oh".
