In 2003, I fell in love with the e55. Of course, back then aged 27 I couldn’t either afford nor inusure it. I knew it was all the car I would ever need: fast, family friendly, almost invisible unless being used hard. 16 years later, I finally bought one and will never look back. Mine is a bit ropey and has some issues that still need fixing, but boy does she fly. Hopefully, will never need to sell that one. It’s my daily driver. As a family of four, we even take it on holidays from home to Portugal in the summer - about 1000 miles in a day. It then takes the 45c heat like a champ, never complains or overheats. A real trooper, and very fun to embarrass people in new fast cars with when pullling away from toll booths.
Concrats! I bought my first AMG last month after testing a C55 (S203), C63 (S204) E63S (S212) and I chose a C63S (S205) in blue with designo brown interior. The reliability of the M177 engine and the optional valves exhaust was the reason I bought the newer car. It isn't my daily and will only be used on dry days and holidays with the family. I really likes the W/S204 for its better sound but it was a little to small for me. The W/S203 is also a great cruiser but finding a nice example is really hard and they ask more for a good W203 than a W204 these days. The E63S was also a great car but the twin turbo model lacks reliability as far I could read on the internet. I hope to own a W212 pre-facelift with the M156 engine next to my W205 in the future!
the thing is how you manage to not get broke with all the gas it drinks. I also have a merc (being a 21 yo working for minimum wage) and sometimes i think my C230K is a gas swallower… Maybe my foot is kinda heavy 😅, or it’s just i don’t drive that efficiently
I just hit 44k in my 2012 E63. I just installed new tires, new Brakes, Oil change, oil filter, Intake tubes, Air filters, Cabin Air Filter, Wiper blades, and fuel system cleaner. She is ready for winter.
Agree! Oil change every 5k miles or 12 months which ever come 1st, you take care of it, it take care of you. Maintenance always better than repair. You kelp all of your Mb in incredible condition, can you share what product you use for your leather? Cleaner and condition? I keep trying a lot of different branded leather but can’t find a real good one for amg Nappa leather.
I too would love to know his leather treatment. Sadly the previous owner of my E63 did not take the best care of the driver seat/got in and out a lot, so its going to need reupholstered in a couple years.
Yes, the Arnot replacement air struts are the way to go. My 2003 E55, acquired 9/2012 has had EIGHT replacement struts, including two compressors, have had everything done under warranty.
Thanks for a such a good, interesting video 👍 i change my oil on mersedes e211 m272 3.5 motor for 120$ with air filter it's nice that u have good prices in your country 👍
Nice cars. I have a 2007 E63 114K daily driver in Virginia, I'm the second owner the car was dealer maintained until 75K, since maintained the past seven years originally by me then by a specialist indie. Over the long term I budget $1 per mile for indie maintenance costs. I agree you can cut that in half by doing self maintenance. The M163 and most other issues are well known at this point, but the car is still $100,000 worth of complex vintage moving parts and the bill will eventually come due. I had the head bolts done at 100K as preventive maintenance, the bottom end is virtually bullet proof (unlike the BMWs) but the top end (dual OHCs) takes some care and feeding. Oh, and that intake is magnesium, plan on a new one eventually if you drive in the wet (ask how I know :) . After careful shopping I passed on a couple of V10 M5s to buy this E63 even though I really wanted the V10 - few of those are even running any more -- I'm planning on keeping the E63 for a while.
Thanks for the video ,,great information..your cars are undoubtably some of the best examples in the world. My 2005 CLK55 AMG has been quite economical to maintain..it has simple braking and suspension systems , and has only needed a new conductor plate in the transmission as far as repairs.. Normal maintenance is cheap when you DIY ,,this has totalled around only $240 this year to change the engine oil , brake fluid and power steering fluid . Two piece Brembo brake rotors are costly , but you generally only do them once and the brakes are awesome , so I think it's worth it.
Awesome videos! can you dedicate a video for the w202 C36? i think its a very significant overlooked AMG. the last AMG built old school AMG ways. yes. it was during the Benz acquisition but it didn't affect the old school ways of AMG yet. thank you!
What would you estimate the total time (hours) spent on doing the diagnose, repair and routine maintenance on those 3 AMGs? Where I live in the US, dealers charge $250 - $275 an hour, good MB independent shops charges $200 - $225 an hour on labor. It is not the part cost but the labor cost that will likely to kill those old AMGs.
Seems its pretty important to DIY as much as possible to keep costs down. I took my 2015 E63S to an indy for B service and it was close to $900. Not terrible considering the car but could be better as you've shown.
Thats the trick, do as much as u can yourself. Even if its just servicing, tonnes to be saved. I'm not mechanically minded, but try to to fix as much myself as possible, including having an obd reader.
Plan to get another car possibly another AMG model to replace the E55 to add to the stable? I don't have the facility or certain things to do some DIY work like a simple oil change. Had a Service A (essentially an oil service) done at a dealer this past summer on my R172 SLK55 at a cost of a tad over $300. It's a lot for an oil change compared to an oil change on my Scion xB (2nd gen) and Honda Insight (1st gen), but I knew what I was getting into owning a performance-tuned car, and it was something that comes with the territory. Rarely do I take my car to a dealer unless it's warranty work or I'm getting a big discount or I bought the car new from there, but I don't know any reputable indie shops especially one that has worked on an SLK55 so the dealer was the best option. I was quite pleased with the service I had from there. I'm a bit ocd about oil level, and the service advisor made sure it wasn't above the max line and the invoice listed all the torque specs including the tightening specs for the oil cooler line. I love details like that. Oh, one reason I wouldn't be able to change my own oil is that I wouldn't be able to get under and drain the external oil cooler or even really know how to do it, so I'm glad I took it to a professional.
Yup, sadly as I have no tools or space at the momenr Im relegated to my Indy (at least get a small "family" discount lol). Ive really come a long way on working on it myself though. Have saved a lot of money just with little things like the sticking parking brake fix
I agree with Motul, that's what I'm using also. 😊 Did you change the compressor oil on this E55? I have done this using your DIY but I don't remember if it was on this model. And as far as I remember that oil (Mobil) was aviation price.
I had my Indy and also his German MB Service Manager friend tell me its an absolute fools errand to buy a used V12 Mercedes. "If yoy have the money to fix the problem and service when they arise, unless you're a collector, you should just buy or lease new with warranty."
Great presentation as always, For A209 trunk partition, I replace only 1 side since 1 can support both. You keep the spare for next round. Out of so many cars i owned, Mercedes brake is the EASIEST to replace of all makes with minimal tools. Glad seeing DIY owners saving money just like you !
Two things. With so few driven miles, almost no repairs are expected. These aren't drivers, these are collections. Further, any account of cost must include a sum lf your labor hours, to be complete. Merely buying parts accounts for a small fraction of the total effort to maintsin. Not very hepful.
If you scan the QR code that your video shows @10:57 on the back of the oil bottle, it actually… says it is NOT supported for Mercedes. Maybe a glitch in the Mercedes database, but that’s what it’s saying as of April 24, 2024.
Hello there, I like to ask you why you has CZ flag on rear plate on your former E55? Im from CZ so its catch my eyes imidiately:). Anyway thanks for your vis, I had E50 (W210) and so I love your contend:). With that recommendation for battery keeper I100% agree I totaled already 2 batteries before I start using that:). Keep in fantastic work:).
Hello ! I bought a 2010 e63 this summer too. Last week i heared some clip in camshaft adjudters. I will buy 63mototsport plates to repear it. Someone use this ones ? Thank you very much and sorry for my bad english. Regards from Uruguay 🇺🇾
The front struts failed completely on the E55 or was it the orings on the valve block? Because I have the same issue on the front right of my cl55 which droops after a day or two however immediately at start, I can raise the suspension and back to normal height and it doesn't droop while driving.
Changing the oil that often is overkill.especially if the car is periodically driven. Save that money and put it in other areas. This is not a true representation of what it costs to upkeep this car.
That W211 still looks far better than the W212. I actually feel the W212 is dating poorly. Looks more and more like an old Hyundai. Though I am a W211 E55 owner.
W212 E63 gang for life!!! Haha jokes aside, the more squared aggressive front qnd rear definitely look amazing. I think the styling holds up just as well honestly. Antthing after mt gen wirh that ultra rounded butt end, just looks gross to me though. (AMG GT excluded)
Hey I have an 08 S63 and when I go for a drive let’s say to the store and it’s a quick in and out trip. Sometimes the car won’t start right away. Sometimes I have to sit for a second and let all the systems and lights shut off and then the car will start. Would you happen to know why it does that? The radio also stops working whenever I hit the throttle
To be honest just you need to mention the repair cost and cost of anything gone wrong with the car which is not much, the maintenance cost is with any other car which is the same as even a small car !!!
I had a m157, 2012 e63s with 60k miles, impeccable service history. All of the known issues such as magnets had been addressed. Unfortunately at this age the plastic coolant pipes started to go end of life, and $3k repair bills became the norm. The parts are made to be replaced and not repaired, a failed rubber o-ring necessitated a new radiator, which is a 6 hour job in itself. When I started to get the air suspension malfunction error message, I was happy to get rid of it. No more AMG for me.
Wow, all that failing at 60K is pretty abnormal. Most plastic lines and rubber hoses on W212 M157 go around 80-100K miles along with the turbocoolant lines. But, all these expenses are known and have known intervals based on a plethora of owner knowledge and should have been known by you to begin with. I'd really call into question that service history or the the treatment of the car by the previous owner(s). The MBWorld forums even has a stickied section of all known issues and maintenance to be aware of.

One tip i can give you, replace the intake temperature sensor if it hasn't been replaced. thank me later.
the thing is how you manage to not get broke with all the gas it drinks. I also have a merc (being a 21 yo working for minimum wage) and sometimes i think my C230K is a gas swallower…
Maybe my foot is kinda heavy 😅, or it’s just i don’t drive that efficiently
@@Lex24HD my AMG is a weekend car, the car I use to go to work is a golf GTI mk6, still a fun car with plenty power but a little easier on gas ;)
Glad your finally able to afford one!
Your video and narration quality is impeccable. You deserve a lot more subscribers.
Australian E55K owner here.
Wow, you are brave having 2 cars with the 6.2 AMG engine. Great video.
Great video! I hope your next AMG is a C216 CL65, I really adore that car!
I'm looking into a C215 CL65 in the near future, my absolute dream car
Well he didn’t get that car 😂
The CLK 63 front license plate holder is so clean
best amg channel on youtube
Love how comprehensive this is. Too many RUclipsrs don't cover upkeep with much transparency, but this takes it to another level.
True. The narration is keeping me hooked up haha
Your comments and videos are very much appreciated

Cool video. My car almost made it into the background at Boundary Mercedes show 😅
Amazing. Absolutely love the m156
Thanks for a such a good, interesting video 👍 i change my oil on mersedes e211 m272 3.5 motor for 120$ with air filter it's nice that u have good prices in your country 👍
The detail to your videos are amazing thank you for bringing mb forums to something we can watch - C63 507E owner and 211 E55 Cheers!

Will you ever make a video about the CL class?
One of the best looking cars ever, imo.
your visuals are just on point 🤌🏾 0:29 ❤️🔥

I know it's not a financial advice but you should add a AMG S65 to your collection one day.
Really interesting and helpful. Brilliant subscibed more please.

Another really good video, for your store a M156 - C63 W204 t shirt would be what I would love to buy off you..
I hear alot of people say Amdj instead of an actual G is that not weird ?
Mercedes cars from those years look so much better than the new models
Awesome video. If you don’t DYI ( like myself ), at LEAST double those numbers in US$. Labor runs $150-200 per hour.
Yup, sadly as I have no tools or space at the momenr Im relegated to my Indy (at least get a small "family" discount lol). Ive really come a long way on working on it myself though. Have saved a lot of money just with little things like the sticking parking brake fix
Bro I think I have a crush ,
On your cars ❤😉
Thank you brother
New sub although i carnt afford an amg at the min just got my first mercedes. Got a 2010 eclass coupe ❤
I currently own a 01ml55 02 clk55 and a 14 ml63
I agree with Motul, that's what I'm using also. 😊
Did you change the compressor oil on this E55? I have done this using your DIY but I don't remember if it was on this model. And as far as I remember that oil (Mobil) was aviation price.
Light work! Get a v12 twin turbo and the prices will go way up.
I had my Indy and also his German MB Service Manager friend tell me its an absolute fools errand to buy a used V12 Mercedes. "If yoy have the money to fix the problem and service when they arise, unless you're a collector, you should just buy or lease new with warranty."

If I want to put shifters onto my '05 S65 AMG, instead of the buttons, what do you recommend?!
Where do you find these cars? Can’t seem to find any e55s in the lower mainland.
What are you doing with your headlights. They look factory fresh
Hello there, I like to ask you why you has CZ flag on rear plate on your former E55? Im from CZ so its catch my eyes imidiately:). can you advise which brand of Air strut was used for the E55? would be helpful for mine thanks cheers
Arnot
Arnott hands down.
Pretty reasonable the more you drive the more you will have to spend.
+1 new subscriber 👍🏻

With an 156 that isn't overkill, unless you want to start dealing with a complete top-end overhaul.
You can never do too many oil changes.
Is the E55 still available?
I don’t understand the pricing. I have a 2012 c63 and my 2 rear tires (ps4s) were $650cnd each. Are you pricing everything in American dollars?
Yes, USD. He says so in the video.
That W211 still looks far better than the W212. I actually feel the W212 is dating poorly. Looks more and more like an old Hyundai. Though I am a W211 E55 owner.

Your alternator isn't working or your battery is bad
🤤🤤😭 pieces of art
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Is your e63 stock?
Yes, completely stock... for now.
Try running 30-50 pre merger AMG's 😂 I know a guy who does. He's also completely bonkers. 😂
Thats why I love my w203 1.8 kompressor. All parts are cheap😉
To be honest just you need to mention the repair cost and cost of anything gone wrong with the car which is not much, the maintenance cost is with any other car which is the same as even a small car !!!
Does RUclips not allow you to say how much you bought and then sold the vehicles for?
I kind of want to know the premium gas price 😂
BMW for me..
lol
I had a m157, 2012 e63s with 60k miles, impeccable service history. All of the known issues such as magnets had been addressed. Unfortunately at this age the plastic coolant pipes started to go end of life, and $3k repair bills became the norm.
