    Just a note. Each one of those non-Tesla’s with charge port on the front driver’s side do not always have to take up two spots. If there are 2 or more using the chargers, if they park next to each other, then only one spot extra is blocked. So if you have 3 non-Tesla’s charging but spaced out from each other, then yes each uses 2 spots. But if they park next to each other, only one spot is blocked between the 3 of them. So instead of 3 non-teslas blocking 3 spots, if they park next to each other, then only one spot is blocked overall.

    • @thedukeofmanville

      Thanks! You are correct. I noticed that when I watched the video. Fortunately, all of the non-tesla vehicles had the port on the front driver side, so if we all parked next to each other it wouldn't be so bad. Only time will tell if this will cause issues as more people buy electric cars.
      Thanks for commenting!

      Nice job Sir Duke. As a Tesla owner, it was good to see that you were able to use the V3 supercharger. Correction for you, the V2 superchargers load share (1A with 1B, 2A with 2B, ect.). The V3s and new V4s do not. Also, the new V4s have a longer charging cable and a small screen on the edge to display pricing. I think things will get better for everyone. Happy motoring. 😎👍

      Yes, good point. But are other ev owners going to think that hard? As I said, the other oems should just put it in the drivers rear in the first place like most ice cars have for the fuel fill. Because they did not think hard either.

  • @ariip
    @ariip 8 месяцев назад

    Other ev oems need to put the charging port on the drivers rear like Tesla. Make it universal like with nacs. Better design, better idea. Tesla simplified it with hiding it under a relfector, so other oems make an extra ugly door? If you look at ice cars, most have the fuel fill there in the drivers rear, so why did they put it elsewhere on the evs. Does not make sense.

    best way for ccs cars without ports on left rear is to use the pull in slot or the last on the right often. then you can get away without taking up 2 spots

    As a Tesla vehicle owner, it’s bitter sweet having the sharing open up to the others. It does take up more spots but in the flip side the number of supercharger sites should grow faster. Try and grab the spots on the far right if one is available. Not always an option. Also the pull in spots sometimes work but they are for Teslas that are towing. I watched a Tesla towing a U-Haul last week try to navigate. It was in Binghamton, NY also a magic dock site that has a trivial R1S taking that spot. I was leaving so I don’t know how it turned out. It creates extra problems needlessly.

    The NACS standard was designed by engineers to encourage EV adoption.
    The CCS charging standard was created by ICE manufactures marketing departments to discourage EV adoption. With the hope EV’s would never catch on.
    In 10 years the only place you will find a CCS charger is in a electronic surplus store.

    As a Tesla person I can tell you that most Tesla owners welcome this. So disregard those keyboard warriors. It's all fear-mongering. Most Superchargers that are going to be opened are not the super busy ones. However, those are not the ones that are needed for none-Teslas. What are needed are those Superchargers in areas with not a whole lot of chargers or EVs. And that's exactly what's happening. It's going to make road trip for none Teslas owners almost as easy as Tesla owners.
    In Europe this year they had a free charging day of all Superchargers and drivers staggered the positions of all the none-Teslas so that in all only one spot was lost. So for a site with 16 stalls, 15 were still abled to be used. Secondly, Tesla restricts the amps for none Teslas to 350amps which tells me they are planning to release an adapter with a short cable extension. The maximum 500 plus amps for Teslas is not possible over a cable longer than their current length (and width) due to the high heats of high amperage. And V3 Superchargers don't load share like the V2s do (which are not going to be opened). It's the restricted amps for said reasons above that's causing your lower speeds.
    And with the monthly plan, Tesla prices are cheaper almost everywhere. For example, at a Tesla Supercharger I was at in the Phoenix area in October was 13 cents past 10pm, and others were 21 cents after 7pm. So If you plan to change more than once for that month, it easily pays for itself.
    As far as your band-aid comment goes, by you saying that Tesla's Superchargers are a great backup when needed says it all. If a 99.96% reliable Supercharger network is considered only a backup, it can only mean that there's not much of a problem.

  • @im4udevco
    @im4udevco 9 месяцев назад +3

    Tesla could retrofit some of these with the V4 stalls which have longer cables. Maybe also have the end stalls support non-Tesla EVs for a bit more flexibility. DCFC is growing and their is hope.

  • @ChosenMJ
    @ChosenMJ 9 месяцев назад +2

    That’s not for Tesla to fix but the manufacturers responsibility to relocate the charging ports on their products. They have to adjust to the NACS standards not Tesla. Tesla has started rolling out their 350kw chargers three months ago so those will probably be readily available in about a year. The third party chargers have a LONG way to go. Their technology is terrible and the stations are up barely 50% of the time compared to 99.2% for Tesla. Tesla should charge more for non-Tesla cars AND should set up non-Tesla spaces only.

    • @TroySavary
      @TroySavary 9 месяцев назад

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  9 месяцев назад +4

      Using the last stall on the right would also result in bocking a charger since my charge port (including every non-Tesla charging while I was there) is on the driver's side (front left). So, depending on the charge port location unfortunately there is no way of avoiding blocking a charger.

    If all the cars with non-Tesla standard connector locations would park beside each other instead of taking up 2 spots each, all of you could be using one spot extra for the entire group. i.e. : One car would take 2 spots, 2 would take 3 spots, 3 would take 4 spots.... etc. In this circumstance, since the far right spot didn't have a open slot beside it, but the far left one did, you could have parked parallel to the curb you could have blocked a spot that was just an empty parking spot, not a charging slot. 😃

    I would consider it viable backup option if you're able to navigate to the Supercharger and the battery is able to precondition. Another caveat is that the v3 dispenser post is max limited to the nameplate rating of 150 kW in Magic Dock mode. v4 dispensers has a higher power output rating and voltage when they get the power electronics upgraded. They're on Tesla time and it's anyones guess when that'll be implemented.

    Band Aid...I wouldn't use that term. It's a great boon for non-Teslas. You'll have far more flexibility in charging choices once the adapter is fully available. NEVI funding has resulted in one station in Ohio and the program is two years old. Don't hold your breath waiting on widespread NEVI chargers happening soon. Tesla stations with Magic Docs are very sparse. As an owner of a Performance Y and R1T there is zero range anxiety driving a Tesla as the stations are plentiful and they work. I have no problem with non-Teslas using the network as it will spur EV adoption. Taking two spots...people will peacefully adapt (hopefully). Tesla is correct to charge other vehicles more for charging since it was Tesla owners that paid for the current network. In the west, we are blessed with RANs all through Washington, Oregon and California ( you can drive from Canada to the Mexican border only using RANs) but there are big holes in the middle of the country. The question I have is whether you can precondition a non-Tesla battery using the App. I'm guessing not.

    • @thedukeofmanville
      @thedukeofmanville  9 месяцев назад +2

      As I stated in the video the Superchargers will only be a backup unless they are the V4 Superchargers which are designed to charge all EVs. The NEVI funded V4s have the magic doc, so no adapter will be needed.
      Also, my next video will be a NEVI funded charger about 75 miles away in Missouri. A Lot of new stations are opening every day.

    I am a recent Tesla owner and I have only had one issue with charging on the Tesla supercharger being broke. I’ve seen online people having wait in queue for a supercharger but haven’t dealt with it in the Midwest. There are normally at least 3 near by so it alleviates that concern. I will say I am slightly nervous with all EVs using Tesla superchargers. It can cause congestion with those whom want to charge up 100% and sit. Which isn’t that common from my experience at super chargers like I’ve seen at EVGo and EA stations. In my area even with the EA+ plan Tesla has the lower prices per KWh. I think if more are built along with longer cables and EVGo and EA has more competitive pricing then it will lessen my concerns.

    PSA: If you see another CCS car taking two spots, make sure you park next to another CCS car. That way, 2 cars only take up 3 spots instead of four. As long as they park next to each other its N+1 spots taken up. Not bad. Tesla needs to just focus on more chargers; thats the solution. After 2025, every new car will be NACS and as long as they put the ports front right or rear left, I'll work out just fine. So, its better to just expand for the future rather than retrofit current chargers for CCS cars that will a very small part of the whole fleet in a few years.

    OR the CCS manufacturers could fix the situation by putting their charge ports in a better place on their vehicles. I owned a 2013 Leaf and now have all Teslas. I prefer the charge port at the rear in the teslas. Better to back in, simple with Tesla’s cameras, then have a clear view when pulling out. Much safer.

    All these charging networks need to get to plug and charge like cell phone networks did with roaming agreements. All that time fiddling with apps only adds time to what is already a time consuming task and blocks the stall longer. As more people get EVs there is one other issue to be addressed. About 15% of gas buyer pay with cash! We need to find out why that is and figure that out. As far as I know there are no EV charging stations anywhere in the world that take cash.

      @@thedukeofmanville No, you are clearly at the bay for the 1B charger as far as Tesla's are concerned and you're using the cable from 1A! You are therefore taking two bays. The cable is supposed to be for the bay where you're standing. This will be an issue at busy superchargers. Tesla may or may not care, that remains to be seen. If it causes a big negative for Tesla owners, then there's little point choosing a Tesla if the same crappy charge experience can be had in any car.
      That's for Tesla to detemine though, not RUclips warriors. 😁

      @@djtaylorutube I am quite aware that I am taking up two spots since it was the point of the entire video. Did you watch the video? I mentioned it multiple times.
      Also, since Tesla is opening the SC to all vehicles they are no longer "Tesla car owners' chargers", but a charging network owned by a car company in the same way that VW owns EA. It will be a public charger soon. And Tesla does care... about profit as any publicly traded company should.

      @@thedukeofmanville I did watch it yes and you said you were at 1A. You're not though, you're at 1B but using the cable from 1A. There is a difference. 😉
      The interest from Tesla would be whether the charging experience becomes degraded to a point there's no benefit buying Tesla. That's all, time will tell, hope it works out for everyone as they're mission driven rather than anything else.
      It's going to be interesting here in the UK where Tesla pricing is about 40p/kWh or 79p even 85p at competitors on the same site. If everyone piles onto Superchargers and a Tesla owner arrives to find them all full but those overpriced other chargers free, that's not a great experience.
      We'll see. Maybe petroleum is the answer? 🤣

      The parking spaces are not labeled or designated for any particular charger, so just because a Tesla would occupy 1A does not mean I was in 1B. Unless I am missing something please show me where the parking spaces are labeled. Tesla likely did not label them on purpose because they knew they would be public chargers.

    Thank you. Why do you have an R1T running board instead of R1S?

      Correct. He was using one charging cable and somewhat blocking the other NACS cable from ONE stall.

      Wasn't the Bolt using the stall directly beside him? It definitely appears that you are correct.

      Only a non-Tesla with the charge port on the front drivers side (Bolt, Rivian, Lyriq, et. al.) would have been able to charge next to me. A Tesla would not have been able to charge because I am taking up their parking spot.

    Now we have to worry with Non-Teslas clueless nubes clogging up the Superchargers, oh what fun, oh yea, and they charge slow too.
