    This is so cool. Duolingo is developing a Scottish Gaelic course for English speakers (Or Saesneg as I call em, I donno the Scot word for it tho). Long live Celtic languages! ^_^

    This was released 4 years ago (2020 now). I hope this is continuing and growing.
    I'm working at learning Gaelic on Duolingo with some other resources. My hope is one day to visit Scotland and find lots of Gaelic speakers to converse with.
    This is not just a revival of a language but of a culture and a world-view that was repressed.

      Don't trust Duo. Definitely hit those other sources, it's easier and more accurate. I started Duo Russian six months ago, and they don't teach the Grammer except just by repetition, never explaining anything. In the first eighth of the New Penguin Russian Course I learned more than four months of doing Duo daily. It's an excellent tool, but other tools may have more value or different value

    Right , so when are these programs and Gaelic classes coming to America? Diaspora should have the opportunity to learn their ancestral language and have it taught to their children in school . They teach Spanish in nearly every school, Gàidhlig should be an option also , as should Gaedhlig (Gaeilge).

    • @jackhanson1274
      @jackhanson1274 2 года назад +5

      Make sure to set aside some effort for the Native American languages as well! You'll lose a lot of history in the Americas with the fading of those languages.

    • @ivandinsmore6217
      @ivandinsmore6217 Год назад +2

      Why would they waste time teaching Gàidhlig to Americans? The language is struggling in Scotland. It is more important to teach the language to the people it belongs to and who had it taken from their ancestors, rather than teaching it to foreigners who have no connection to the country or its people.

    • @saorelba
      @saorelba Год назад

      @@ivandinsmore6217 But wouldn’t making it more accessible to diaspora prove the point that it deserves to be spoken and used? Must a person have a direct connection to a culture to learn a language?

      Why is English taught around the world? I'm American but we didn't come from here. I'm 20% English but I'm 72% Scottish and Irish. I should be speaking Gàidhlig 72% of the time. Lol. 😆

    There’s a swastika in the center of the logo, maybe needs to be addressed

    • @spraffman
      @spraffman 3 года назад +15

      I'll address it: it isn't a swastika. A swastika has a very specific shape, namely "the form of a cross, the arms of which are of equal length and perpendicular to the adjacent arms, each bent midway at a right angle" which the logo does not contain.
      It does contain, however, St Brigid's cross.
