In every religion, there are people who will get offended at smallest thing while some not even at biggest; some will still be able to take joke despite being offended while some won’t compromise at any cost…they will be ready to behead you. Not all Indians are same. Also not every Indian’s faith is same even if they are Hindu. Under umbrella of Hinduism, there are thousands of beliefs and hardly people with one belief cares about other belief.
Taking offense is not a problem.

Great content, without appearing crass. One correction though, Siddhartha or Gautham Buddha can not be categorized as God. He never claimed to be a one, he insisted on his humanness. He is a philosopher but after thoysands of years, people turned his philosophy into a religion.

Although India is the largest exporter of buffalo meat, export of cow meat is prohibited in India and is a criminal offence.
But apparently eating buffalo meat is still a crime as beef is banned in India. What sort of a hypocritical double standard is this? You can earn money by being the third largest exporter but someone can't eat it in the same country.
Also just for context, there are 6x more female cows than male cows in India, I would like to know how this happened and is still happening because we apparently don't kill cows or export them. So are our cows just giving out 6x more female cows then male ones?

FYI, Though religion and Standups have always been questioned together here, but Recently, a Comic named *Munawar Faruqui* did a joke on an Indian deity, and he was bullied, beaten on stage by a Political leader's relatives and was arrested for his jokes. So many influential people spoke about this in support of Munawar and other Comics... Hopefully things get better and people stop being so offended by little things.
But the question rises why was he mocking only Hindu religion and his own...

Vir Das is a more a satirist than a comedian with his extraordinary sense of timing. However, a minor point to note that India is the large exporter of beef out of buffalo meat, not of cow.

Joking is different from abusing and demeaning. Joking is welcomed because it creates an atmosphere of enjoyment but abusing other one's beliefs or gods which creates disharmony and negativity in society is bad and repulsive in nature. Those who target other religious believes should be ready to openly accept jokes on their own religion. But when it comes to them we see lots of killing, beheading, murders done by them.
I always am in a bit disagreement when someone jokes about someone else. We might be making a correct point, but that's our side of the coin. When it doesnt reach the one who is on the other side, we need to explain rather throw it as a joke. The context is just not about God but literally everything and everyone.
We can joke abt everything under sun, can we in the present world? Can i joke about a black guy, it would be immediately called racist though i have no such intention.
Can i joke about an obese guy, it would be instantly regarded as body shaming in the current world.
Why... Because it hurts them. Not because it is not a fact or that the targets in the 2 examples cannot take jokes. When the world is so considerate about a few human traits, why does the same world go gaga about being candid, wise and canny about beliefs and other things. Well, some might opine that in such a case, we can never joke about anything. Seriously, the best entertainers have been the ones who joked about themselves and the best joke is something that is about you and is appreciated by everyone. You can't creak such a joke.. Then you Dont.
Because when such a joke about others, turns into a comment or ridicule, no one knows. Let's make people laugh their hearts out with no hassles.
Yeah you can't get away all the time with punching down comedy but most people are ok with punching up comedy like richest persons,religions etc except some people take religion very seriously. Any normal person would ignore such jokes but some dont. Do bad jokes need to be punished severely? Doesn't just ignoring the person take away the purpose? A comedian still in the end of the day trying to make a living?
As the other person brought up, in comedy, punching up is the norm. Making jokes on black people/obese people is a clear example of punching down. Religion and god is punching up.

Also please to my knowledge atleast in my own religion and in other old world religions - satire, sarcasm, trolling, messaging through comedy was in fashion. I watch vir das. Munawar kamra niharika jord Indians, aiswarya mohsnraj... Even comedy on religion.. .who doesn't love comedy, isn't it? But a few don't take it easily and they are enough to pull the reigns of the world /society off the balance with their temparament.

Omg!! I just saw this vir das set on this video. What an amazing set! It's so true. Here in India, beef is banned in some states because it is worshipped in Hinduism. Recently one low budget comedian named munawar(dont know his surname)is arrested for making jokes on Hindu gods.

There is a recent arrest of a muslim comedian named Munawar Faruqui coz apparantly he made some jokes on Hindu gods and many comedians came in to support him and I think this video of Vir Das was perfectly timed!!
He didn't made any joke about hindu gods. Stop lying.
The insane thing about it is that his bail has been denied multiple times while the police, themselves, have said that they don't have any evidence against him at all. We all know that he has been arrested just because he is a Muslim. Proper fascist country ours is.
@@bornofmind Not jokes, he is in jail for being Muslim and that comes from a Hindu. This new India has become different story altogether. We are on way to become next Germany of 1930s.

There isn't a word hindu in veda or gita but people say i follow hinduism.
Well when you label civilization as an "unorganized religion" whatever that means, divided people from different communities as separate religions, misappropriated terms like "Dharma" as religion, teach history by perspectives of outsiders instead of natives and classify their history and literature as "religious text" then you can't complain that people now call Hinduism religion. Now you have to treat it like you do other religions and you are not allowed to joke about it because it's not your culture anymore but a "religion". Same would happen to American after 1000's of years - they'll be following "Americanism" if they believe in Albert Einstein. Unless people get smarter and toxic construct of religion was thrown away. Spirituality would work better- something that has allowed Indian civilization to survive coz it was never text based.

Man, Vir really knows how to walk that thin line.
But it has to be understood that talking about something is a whole different ball-game than outright poking fun at that said thing. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you ought to do it, right? I may not agree with Vir on all things but I do believe that some lightheartedness is essential for today's religions. People need to reflect on themselves a lot more before thinking about some God.
