I agree with you, Gemmy. It's incredible what such a small company puts out. It makes you wonder what they would do if they had Honda's or Toyota's pockets.
If they had deep pockets like the two Japanese giants we'd see the same huge and mostly soulless lineup of vehicles. (Toyota has the upcoming Supra, Honda has the type R and NSX) Mazda only has 6 cars in its entire lineup (7 if you count the Toyota iA, rebadged and uglied up Mazda 2) and each one is a great representative in their respective segment. In reality the MX5 Miata is in a segment of its own since Fiat is the only competition...and it's a rebadged Miata.
You forgot to mention the light rod/bar on the front grill of the 2016 that is not included on the 2018. When you view the car at night with this light on, it's so cool. One more thing that makes the car stand out from all the rest. Love it!
I got my Mazda 6 Sports on August 15 2017. Really love the car, despite having to be reminded of the new mazda 6 2019 models every time I get into the mazda dealership to service my 6.
one thing i absolutely hate about the new 2018 is that they got rid of the signature grill illumination! why??? it looks so awesome on my 2017 mazda 6 GT and i wish mazda brings it back in the future. its one of the reasons i did not upgrade to a 2018 and chose to keep the 2017 cause that signature illumination is so awesome. When i go out with my girl on a saturday night, friends and even strangers will notice it. most people dont know about it since most mazda 6s in my area are not the GT trim, which is the only one that came with that feature.
Daniel Villalobos on our 2017.5 Mazda 6 Touring it doesn’t have the grill light like yours well here in Houston I found a shop that sells led lights by the foot but where your light is I can’t get the led strip to fit or it would have come out nice but I did find at Aldi some grab handles that attach to the headrest bars in black which match the inside of our car they look cool I can even hang clothes on them instead of blocking the window. 💯🙁
cory merry I ordered some LED light bars that fit perfect on the lower grill like if they were built for my 6 now in the day or night they will be bright white but then when I turn on my signal light it will turn yellow/orange in color while the other side stay bright white led in color I picked them up on eBay and I’m not kidding the fit is perfect I’m going to mount them with double sided tape that I bought at Home Depot it’s heavy duty I’m also going to run the red or the hot wire to the hood fuse box but I’m also going to have a inline fuse just to be more safe eBay # 191607614367 look up the item on the search on eBay. So these lights fit between the license plate and the end of the lower grill the space is perfect I’m trying to make our 6 different but not ugly I’m also looking at some 19” wheels as well.
I'm so glad i upgraded to the 2018 2.5T engine. The exterior looks so much sharper and the interior just out classes some luxury brands. Driving difference is just day and night.
I still prefer the styling of the old one more, but I like all the extra goodies that come with the new one. Probably won’t trade mine in until the skyactiv-X M6 comes out though
I certainly wouldn't upgrade to the new Mazda. Mine is the older version & I prefer the look of the grille, fog lights + the mag wheel design. The interior may be slightly nicer on the new model... the best feature is the larger 8" screen. Not sure why one would need the seats cooled with an air-conditioner. I'm probably one of the few that is happy with the power of the old one as I don't feel the need for any extra Zoom Zoom. Enjoy driving at the speed limit & listening to my music even if I arrive at my destination 2 minutes later. Very happy with Mazda with all it's features......
Yeah, the one thing I wish the newer one had is the lights going down the grille, I think it's such a cool feature. I agree with you on the bigger screen, that would be nice. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want more power, but I'm so happy with the gas milage. Thanks for the comments, Gary!
Must say, I haven't seen or noticed lights going down the grille GemmyD but it does sound like it's a cool look. One think I have just found out that the new model has over our model is- the door rear-view mirrors are anti-glare.... I think that's a big + as that was one of the first things I noticed. The cabin rear-view mirror was anti- glare but the door mirrors were not. Better start saving AGAIN..... Lol
You have no idea how well the cool seat works until you actually use it. I thought it was a gimmick at first but it's so useful when getting into a hot car. Once the A/C kicks in and the car cools off then I turn off the cool seat.
Well I leased a 2016 iGT like yours (but in meteor grey with black interior) and ended up buying a 2018 Sig (Machine Grey metallic with chestnut int) and love the new car. The 2016 is a nice car that is fun to drive and arguably more tossable when compared to the 2018, which is a little heavier amd leaning more toward luxury. The Sig is a very nice upgrade that makes me wonder why buy anything German for 20K more. Mazda is killing it and anyone who thinks the new Camry or Accord is a better car really hasn't done their research. For the same money Mazda hands down. IMO
I agree with you, I'm hoping to review an Accord and Camry for comparison's sake, am I am biased, but I think the Mazda is the best looking car of the three.
I own a 2016 GT and would love to have the turbo, however some issues need to be addressed. 1. Infotainment center flat out will not work when the temperature is 30 or below and only starts working when the cabin has warmed up. 2. Backup camera resolution sucks. 3. Drivers side mirror vibration. 4. HUD deploys inconsistently requiring adjustment. 5. Needs more cushioning in the armrests. 6. Steering wheel leather peeling/splitting. Still love the car...
I too have a 2016 GT and agree with most of your points. Add my passenger front door sounds like a tin can when shutting. HUD does move around. Info system is slow to warm up, i-eloop battery is a joke.
The older one has a better exterior, the newer one has a better interior. Basically, choose which one is more important to you. I think interior is more important.
Hey gemmy! I just bought a 2016 mazda6 GT 6MT It was so nice when I test drove it I knew I wanted it. Im getting rid of my 2007 Infiniti g35x with 310HP for the Mazda #Fuelefficiency
I just came here to post the same thing! The chrome strip underneath the grille looks better going above the headlights. I do like the texture on the new grille, but that's really the only thing better about the 2018..
Yeah of course, but if it weren't for that there wouldn't be a reason to upgrade. I do like the new interior though, but the previous version (2016-2017) is still better than most, and I prefer it to the new Accord and Camry interiors.
I have the 17 in Blue Mica and like it more than the new version. I do like the white color that you have. I really like the white interior, very classy looking.
!!!!!!! I have the 2018 Mazda 6 reserve with the 2.5 turbo. Must do’s and what I did are the following in no particular order..... 1 Pedal commander because the gas pedal has a pretty slow reasons.... 2 Corksport or any aftermarket intake system. You get a little more top end because the car really needs that and you get the cool turbo sound blowoff valve sound.... 3 lower it because it has to be the tallest sedan in the world
Nope absolute base model, it’s gone 120,000 so far with stock brakes and really cheap for the fun I have had. No mechanical issues whatsoever and never been absolutely run away from on a curvy road.
I would never trade my 2017 mazda 6 for any other car not even a newer mazda 6,I don't need more horse power or any other amenities, I don't plan on racing anyone.
I have a 2016 Mazda 6 without the turbo. I have a K & N air filter in it. I have blown away Mustangs, motorcycles, and even Chargers. Do I need a turbo, I don't think so. The new 2018 does not have fog lights and there is no CD player. I also can't read the heads-up display on the 2018 using polarizing sun glasses. Gas mileage is also hurt with a turbo. Oh, my 2016 has ceramic paint and NEVER needs waxing (after almost 3 years). You decide.
LoL... stop man, just stop! Your pipsqueak little 184hp car isn't gonna blow ANY car away! Especially not a damn bike or a mustang. Your car has the looks, but it definitely ends there. A 184hp with about 172 going to the wheels isn't going to get you any wins against any upgraded mustang.
I don't think the gt has napa leather....you miust purchase the signature for that, am i right or wrong? I bought the signature and the seats are really stiff, hope they will soften up..thanks for the video...I do like the grill better on the 16.
You said that interior is nice. It's not that it is, it's just that it's different. A lot of people get phycologically triggered by the difference and automatically thinks the new is better but it's not. It's just newer, different. Some prefer the old style.
Great car...but wait two years and get a super deal. These cars--like other well known brands-- depreciate like no other. I sat in the 2018 Mazda 6 touring model and the seats felt like "butter" compared to the 2018 Honda Accord Sport model. In terms of performance I would imagine the 2018 non-turbo's performance is similar to the previous model's 184 hp. The non turbo really needs an 8-speed auto with shorter gears. Low end torque is good but the 6 speed auto gives out of steam quickly.
grand touring was top of the line in 2016, in 2018 grand touring is two steps below grand touring reserve and signature. So there are somethings missing in the 2018 version that were standard in 2016: leatherette instead of real leather, no adaptive headlights, the passenger seat is not motorized, regular internal lights instead of led, no memory seats adjustments, no heads up display. If you want all those things and more you should go for the grand touring reserve. On the other hand there are some improvements besides the amazing turbo engine: 8 in infotainment, adaptive cruise control, auto hold, better color central display with temperature gauge, so it is not a total downgrade, actually it feels like a big upgrade.
I'm wring this because your were comparing grand touring against grand touring (not reserve) and assuming that they are equal in features is a mistake. I had the 2016 grand touring and now I have the 2018 grand touring, these were my findings, usually people and reviewers only talk about the signature trim that has everything. so if your or someone else is interested in the cheaper grand touring, these are things that they should keep in mind. the leatherette seats were almost a dealbraker for me and I only discover later (when it was too late) that it didn't have the adaptive headlights, the ones that follow your steering.
Eloy Cortinez Can I ask why leatherette is a deal breaker? I love mine, they are so comfy. I thought adaptive headlights were standard on GT for 2016, I am a fan of mine.
if you have the GT 2016 then you have the real leather and the adaptive headlights. I had another car (not a mazda) in the past with leatherette and didn't age well, after a year or two it became ugly plastic shiny mainly on the driver seat. Hope the one that I have in the new mazda now is not that way, too early to tell... regarding the headlights, the 2018s seem to have a wider range so the adaptive ones (I loved them in 2016) are not sorely missing, I didn't even notice that at the beginning. In spite of the missing features, there are also additions, the engine, the electronics.. I have to say that I really like the new car much better :)
I believe he was comparing the Grand Touring Reserve trim to his car. The HUD is not included in the Grand Touring model anymore. Not only that, but it is a proper windshield projected model now, like the CX5 and CX9.
Ur not even in the signature trim. Thats not nappa leather, i dont even know how u can confuse the pleather stitched dash piece with suede. I also dont know how u can confuse aluminum look plastic trim with wood.
I thought the Sen wood only came on the Signature edition. The one you reviewed was a Grand Touring reserve model, because it did not include the new digital center gauge, which is exclusive to the Signature.
Great comparison of the 2 though. How is the drive compared to the 2016, especially handling? It also looks like the 2018 has gained 200+ lbs. I have heard some say the handling seems softer after the suspension tuning of the 2018.
I'll be honest, it didn't really FEEL like 66 more horsepower and it did have a little lag, but it was definitley faster and I think the handling was pretty much the same.
So the 2018 you compared to is the GT Reserve? Or just the GT? The 2016 still looks good to this day. We’ve decided we’re going to get the new 6 or might wait for the new 3.
GemmyD on Cars - just picked up a 2018 6 GT. We have been renting a new 2018 3 and really liked it. I honestly thought it had turbo this entire time but found out they don’t. This black car you reviewed is a GT Reserve because the GT I got doesn’t come with the cool LED strips in the headlight/taillights and the heads up display. Man the GT is a nice car for the money though.
It's the GT reserve. The GT doesn't have the rear spoiler and HUD. The GT does get the turbo engine. The nappa leather is exclusive to the Signature trim, the Reserve doesn't get it. I traded my 16 GT for the 18 GT Reserve and I love it.
@@302daddyd True. Just bought a 2018 GT lastnight for my wife for mother's day. I plan on adding a few options from the GT Reserve. Hud is one thing the other is the instrument cluster from the GT Reserve. Shouldnt be an issue.
@@lawrence2155 I don't think you can add the HUD or anything else from the Reserve to the GT without paying an arm and leg for it. It would of cheaper just to get the Reserve in the first place.
@@GemmyDonCars well, i guess this black one in your video is not the latest version. Of course you know better than me about cars, just im confused. Could you please check below video ? You can see the digital dashboard there. ruclips.net/video/1SVzNKdLcSQ/видео.html This one seems latest version because it has digital dashboard. thanks
An upgrade in engine/interior, downgrade on exterior looks imo. It's still one of the best looking cars on the road, but I just prefer the looks of the '16-'17, and in some ways even the '14-'15.
If you were talking Mazda 6 GT/Signature versus Accord touring the choice would be tougher, but between the 6 and Civic I'd choose the Mazda no question about it. The camera res may not be great, but it still shows whats behind you even if it's not 4k ultraHD with HDR etc etc..
Camera res wouldn't be the deciding factor for me, I like everything about the Mazda better, including its lower (real, out the door..Honda dealers won't deal) pricetag vs the Accord Touring, but probably not Civic. As long as it shows me what's behind, I'm good, doesn't have to be 4k, HDR etc..for just a few seconds of work every day, and some days I don't backup at all.
I agree with you, Gemmy. It's incredible what such a small company puts out. It makes you wonder what they would do if they had Honda's or Toyota's pockets.
I can’t imagine. They would be even stronger!

Bill the will be greedy. It seems like the richer a company are the more greedy they get. A small company always try to get the Costomer attention
Quite simply they would be World beaters.
Mazda is high quality. Watch out Toyota Mazda is coming for you!!!
I’ve said this for so long
They're actually working together. Built a giant factory together, toyota has a 20% stake in mazda I believe.

So the 2018 you compared to is the GT Reserve? Or just the GT? The 2016 still looks good to this day. We’ve decided we’re going to get the new 6 or might wait for the new 3.
I believe this one was a GT. Yeah, I think the 2016 does look good still. If I were you, I'd go for the 6 over the 3.
I would tbh trade my 18’ Mazda 3 for the turbo Mazda 6. Then modify it to my liking
can you display nav from appel car play on the HUD?
No, you cannot. It just shows your mph and if you are close to a turn or exit, it will say 0.3 and a right/left arrow or whichever way you need to go.
I got a super deal at CLEAR LAKE MAZDA WEBSTER, TX
+Xavier Xavier Glad to hear it, X!
What deal?? I'm looking to get mines..im in Houston
I'd take the 2016/2017 over it
I prefer the 2018+ models plus Apple CarPlay now 😏
Hard to argue that, Chay.
Is there 2019 model Mazda6 ? Because i saw few videos and there was different modern dashbord. It is is way better.
This black one in this video is a 2019 and yep, the interior has been updated. It is nicer, I'd agree with you there.
@@GemmyDonCars well, i guess this black one in your video is not the latest version. Of course you know better than me about cars, just im confused. Could you please check below video ? You can see the digital dashboard there.

This one seems latest version because it has digital dashboard.
thanks
The 2019 model is not yet on the market. The most current model is the 2018
Omg I wantttt I think u should trade yours in get the up grade 😉
Gotta get wifey a new car first, I can wait :)
GemmyD on Cars aww you’re so sweet :)
An upgrade in engine/interior, downgrade on exterior looks imo. It's still one of the best looking cars on the road, but I just prefer the looks of the '16-'17, and in some ways even the '14-'15.
Vast upgrade imo
+T Lin Yeah, hard to argue with that logic, my friend.
250 hp is only with 93 ocyance. Its 225ish without
This is true.
I can't decide between the Mazda 6 Touring and the Honda Civic Touring. Mazda makes beautiful cars, but the rear camera has terrible quality.
Of course I am biased, but the 6 looks 100x better than a Civic, in my opinion. I don't think the rear camera should be a deal breaker.
As long as it shows me what's behind, I'm good, doesn't have to be 4k, HDR etc..for just a few seconds of work every day, and some days I don't backup at all.
jbm0866 Yeah, I’m with you.
No it doesn't. How are you basing this opinion?
My wife's 2017 camera is amazing compared to my trucks or the Mercedes 350. Lol
Wrong data regarding the torque increase, the torque increase is from 250 to 310, that means +60 n/m of torque
Incorrect, the torque on the 2016 was 185 pound feet, the 2018 turbo is 310. An increase of 125 pound feet.
Give your wife your car and get the 2018 model in red. Lol
+Xobeen Brown I got my wife an Audi Q5! I love my Mazda, but I want an electric car next, I think.
@@GemmyDonCars damn, that Audi is expensive bro 🙈
+Xobeen Brown It’s all relative, my man, I’m good at saving money.
FFS, there is no R in Mazda. It’s not pronounced marrrrzzda
I don’t say that at all, get outta here.
@@GemmyDonCars you do, you say MARZDA. the Maz part is pronounced the same as mad, sad, bad.....
@@Steve...66.... No. you’re still wrong. In these parts, we pronounce it MAHHHHZDA.
@@GemmyDonCars well you’re saying it wrong fella
@@Steve...66.... That’s your opinion, Steve. Move on.
$30K+ for a Mazada!!!! Fuuuccckk no!!!
eidolonbreed How’s that any different than a Toyota or Honda or Kia or Hyundai or Subaru?
