- Somers Fire Department Ambulance 80B1, Engine 180, and Engine 186, along with New York State Police two unmarked units, Unit 3K24, and Unit 3K12, Somers Police Department Unit 7K381 and Unit 7K389, Westchester County Police Department Somers High School School Resource Officer and Emergency Service Unit Sergeant, and Bedford Hills Fire Department Rescue 10 responding to a car into the building with entrapment at Optum Medical Care on Route 202 in the Town of Somers, New York. A complete rundown of the units that responded is listed below.
Originally, Somers Fire Department and EMS, along with 45-Medic-2 from the Northern Westchester Paramedics were dispatched for a reported car into the building. When the first few EMS units signed on, 60-Control (dispatch) advised them that they had received an additional call reporting one person still inside the vehicle. Car 2446 was the first fire unit to arrive on scene and established command. He confirmed a vehicle into the building with one patient trapped inside the vehicle, and reported they were working on access. He also immediately requested the Westchester County Technical Rescue Team to go on standby in their quarters. Shortly after, he requested Bedford Hills Fire Department's rescue to the scene. After the arrival of Engine 186, command advised they were working on shoring the building. Car 2001 advised the Technical Rescue Team was staffed in quarters and Battalion 13 requested them to the scene as a precaution. Emergency shoring was completed and the patient was removed from the vehicle. As a result, the Technical Rescue Team was instructed to continue in non-emergency. Battalion 13 advised extensive shoring would still be needed prior to removing the vehicle. He also requested an engine from the Croton Falls Fire Department to standby in their own quarters to cover any additional calls for the Somers Fire Department. 45-Medic-2 ultimately secured an RMA and all EMS units went back into service, along with all mutual aid fire units, and some Somers Fire units. Most then responded to an additional motor vehicle accident in the Town of Somers. (Check out a video of that response: • Somers FD Multi-Agency... ) The vehicle was removed from the structure and all remaining units were back in service after approximately two hours of operation.
