- On Hum Log, we take you back to the days when Doordarshan had a monopoly over television in India and when the news anchors were celebrities whom people could recognize wherever they went. Four of these evergreen news readers talk to us about the days when they held the responsibilities of being the faces of an institution that was the leader in information broadcasting. Very true all these news readers were super star of our country. Apart from all these wonderful super stars I would like to add some more names like Meenu, Suneet Tandon, Sashi Kumar, Neethi Ravindran some names are missed out. Hats off to all the super stars which we will not in present generation. Infact the high quality and standard is lost.

Im from bengaluru. By seeing these news readers i became speechless, my eyes filled with tears. I was about 10 yrs old then. I felt as if they belong to me. Those period was like Gupta dynasty in my life, which was a golden era in India. We used to watch news also like any other programme in tv.
Rini Khanna my favorite news reader with stylish pronounceation and modulations sweet memories.

those were the days of listening and watching the news with passion ! we never wanted to miss the news bulletins ! we used to improve our diction and pronunciation by watching and listening to the news carefully on tv and radio ! it was a special time for us . now it is noise , noise and noise and the news readers are so aggressive ! wo shaleenta ka zamaana tha . salma ji is right . now you just have to watch the news to raise your blood pressure ! i haven't watched any news for the past so many years ! so happy to see our dignified news readers ! missing sarla maheshwari ji on this forum ! wish those times of dignified news reading were back once again !

Now lady news readers ware western outfits but most of their dresses are I'll fitting or their figure can not carry them. News reading has become like a bullfitting male or female both are same

They had the grace and truthfulness in their news reading, which is missing in today's chunk of news readers.
These were true gems.. they had that personality..communications skills and voice modulation and control. They were true speakers and talented personalities. They had an image and still stand above all these readers today. Beautiful people beautiful memories..♥️

I had the privilege of hearing all the news readers from 70's to 90's while I was working in Delhi.Frankly those days are unforgettable.They were all talk of every household..Stars in their own right.

70s and 80s were a horrible time to grow up. It was a fun time for people with money. But for others it was a nightmare. Qualifications did not matter, you had to know people in high places to get a job.
That was a golden era of Indian Television except for the antennas :). Most of the shows those days were educational and entertaining! Sadly, the present shows instill criminal instincts into the watchers minds. Anything that is abundantly available will lose quality, just like today’s tv shows.

Even today I want to sleep off listening to Narangji's voice like I did when I was in 2-3rd standard in school. His voice gives a sense of security and calmness.

80,s and 90's were eras of simplicity , politeness unlike today's channels which are just cacophony, everyone shouting at each other, using abusive language .

Two of the guests still continue to impress us with their voice and diction ... S/Shri Shammi Narang and Rini Simon Khanna ji both in Delhi Metro announcements ... and in Delhi DMTS orange cluster buses, we can hear Shri Harish Bhimani ji mentioning "ganthavya sthal" ... etc in pure Hindi ... !

Kalyan they both differ from each other :Our Arnab is fighting for justice for the common man. He is the voice for those defencelessones. U have to have courage to do that. U have seen how he has been crucified.... This is good also its calm talking abt every day stuff n films hair styles and so forth the two is different yet crucial for daily life. One has to b with passion drive ambition for a better India. The other is giving serenity and calm. Love both
