Heading out to sea as a hurricane approaches might not make much sense in this era of generalized insurance and well protected harbours but it was common practice for decades and decades, especially among fishermen (who couldn't afford to lose their boat). It was still commonplace among fishermen in New England in the 90s. And depending on the boat and crew there's nothing wrong in going out in these conditions if the weather is going to improve at sea.

I have a POS 2006 21ft clearwater center console T top with a 4 stroke Yamaha and I absolutely beat the brakes off that boat and so far don't have any cracking or stress fractures which I cannot believe
I did boat repair for years, most of the time was spent fixing areas where people bumped into sea walls,docks, debris in the water, and lots of gel-coat repairs! A lot of jobs were paint jobs, which were the best! Big money! And some were also from some boaters who got just a little too close to the Jetty in the inlet, but not too often. We were in Martin County Florida, the Stuart inlet, which is NOTHING like Haulover, thank God! I did a couple years at Ribovich in WPB, and they were big yachts, bout 90-150’, with lots of repairs in all areas on the vessel, carpenters, us glass guys, Diesel mechanics, modifications, and anything else rich people would want to spend money on. Oh, and also lightning strikes hitting masts on dry docked sailing vessels! Saw the main mast get hit a 120’ footer, and blew out lots of fairing epoxy out the Transom! What a sight!! Worked out good for us though, being that we were all caught up, and needed more work.

The drone does not record audio unfortunately. I been thinking of experimenting with my own audio solution for the drone. I'll do a little bit of testing.

@@WavyBoats One suggestion would be to use the ground base (GB) camera to record the sound and have both (drone and GB camera) record the same subject. In post just add the soundtrack for the GB camera to the drone footage. Now you have the natural sounds in sync with your drone footage. I too enjoy just listening to sounds from the inlet with the occasional sounds of an outboard, but the sound from a 4 stroke doesn't come close to a 2 stroke.

Years ago I took a rented Bayliner Trophey out there on a calm day so a buddy of mine I took with me ( have some fam down there ). And even tho its only a 22 Footer, its a pretty capable boat. It was calm, but you deff still have to watch it. Stay played up, don't go to slow and adjust your throttle. This guy at first just went straight for it.
From watching some videos of it, I gather that inlet is very tricky. This isn't at all like the power boating my family and I did back in the early 70s on Galveston Bay. I don't think the Bay has tricky currents. Shoot, according to Wikipedia, its average depth is 6 feet with a maximum depth of 10 feet.
Those 40 and 50 foot center consoles are massive....until you run them through the 10 foot rollers in the inlet. LOL. I have a 35' center console and regularly run that inlet. It can get bad at times even with no storm approaching. That first guy in the inboard Sea Vee didn't expect to fly the boat like that. LOL.

Gewglesux I also come from fresh water so it doesn’t effect me that often but i think the trick is to speed up while going up a wave and slow down when you go down the wave.

Jim D actually boats perform better with a slight speed penalty trimmed all the way down. if you don’t believe me take a boat in the bay when it’s choppy and you will see the difference. it doesn’t take a big sea to tell the difference. at the end of the day taking water over the boat won’t make you sink. don’t loose turbo spool or whatever you got don’t loose power but you can back off a little. trimmed up the boat will bounce over everything while trimmed down will plow through it and sometimes take spray or water over the bow but you have tons of drainage and bilge pumps for that
Wise choice! I was taught to always test my boating skills, but don’t overly exceed my capabilities! It’s made me pretty confident in most all weather!

I feel dumb. I've been binge watching a lot of these videos and I kept thinking "man this Wavy Boat manufacturer is really popular here" and then I scrolled down to read the comments on this video and realized its the channel name.
Notice how the Hydrasports handles the rough water. It comes down softly on the waves and the large bow flare disperses the water sideways away from the boat. Most boats with poof hull design will slam down hard onto the wave and then take much of it over the bow and into the bost. Hydrasports is famous for their ride which is attributed to a great hull design. My 1990 model 20 foot Hydrasports 2000DC could have handled that rough water and kept the boat dry just like the larger model in this video.

The sea vee was going to fast, not riding what waves proper, the right speed will get you in trouble in even calmer conditions than those.
