Designed by Charles Follen McKim (original building) and Philip Johnson (new wing), both using Milford pink granite. I watched some of the granite for the new wing being quarried. The paintings on the stairs and 2nd floor hall are by Pierre Puvis de Chavannes; on the top floor they are by John Singer Sargent (Boston has the largest collection of Sargent - mostly in the Museum of Fine Arts) and in the former card catalog room they are by Edwin Austin Abbey (now called the Abbey Room). The fountain is a copy (original in Metropolitan Museum in NYC) of "Bacchante and Infant Faun" by Frederick MacMonnies that was originally thought to be too risque by the Bostonians of the time. Excellent tour of a magnificent library.

Beautiful place 🔥🔝
It really is!
My God, lovely, uplifting, a place of fact and contemplation, but how long before the next generation tears it down?
I love South Park
