This 30th anniversary celebration edition is a wonderful metaphor of life. The original, energetic, loud and in your face with so much to say. The now has deep meaning, a bit slower and a message that belies greater wisdom.
This made me so sad, time is like a river, so many nearest and dearest now gone from when this was released. Id love to go back in time to 1981 and meet them all again.
This is an epic version of this evergreen song. There is so much emotion in Martha's voice, and the music has such a sad feeling to it Total respect to a band that have stood the test of time. I salute you 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My favourite song not only of the 80s but ever. I love this song with every breath of my being and just when i dont think i can love it anymore ... i hear this version. Absolutely breathtaking.
My favourite song of all time. I remember dancing to the original in 1989 in a basement club in the Canary Islands, 20 years old. Not a care in the world.
This version is amazing. It is intended to show that you can't bring back the past thirty years and you must accept that time changes everything. Even the old Echo Beach. Just enjoy the memories!
One of my all-time favourite five tracks ever. And then this came along........'yearning' is the only word that describes this version, it sent chills down my spine.
Hello world, can't really tell how much Martha and Muffins music have been important to me, sometimes, far away in time. This version, with new arrangements , slowed down, is so beautifull and makes me feel so much emotions and a little bit nostalgic.
Wonderfully evocative-just like the original. Must admit I have a soft spot for Martha Ladly and that synth line, so nothing can surpass the original-among my favourites of all time.
This is an amazing version of 'Echo Beach' -- I loved the original version, but this has so much depth and yearning, yet an acceptance of time gone by. It's true -- it is so hard to believe that 30 years have passed -- I keep forgetting that I'm not 21 anymore.
Have to admit, I was worried when this popped up, I was scared to listen, as the orignal burst my soul open to the elements, that guitar riff, was a beautiful thing to hear, over, and over... But this is very very nice, that double bass is chilling, such a great song, and justice has been done with this magical version. What a great band, I love them with my wee pumpitty heart. ;-)
Jesus. They found a completely different song perfectly nestled within the original. And broke open my aorta when they unfolded it. My god, what artists! The original, so playful and wry, faintly tinted with longing. This version, drenched with longing and loss, no joke at all.
Bought the album when it first came out and it reminds me of a time when I thought cool music was gonna FINALLY obliterate the gawdawful "classic rock" of the day. Well, we all know that didn't happen but lots of tunes from "Echo Beach" ended up on my 30 volume "hits that shoulda been" series of late 70's and early 80's tunes and it never fails to elicit a "Who is that" from the uninitiated. It sounds pretty neat sandwiched between Scott Wilk & the Walls, the Only Ones, Holly & the Italians & Robin Lane & the Chartbusters too!
The original is one of my favourite songs, a contemporary staple of the soundtrack to my high school years. This reworking, so different in energy, is just as captivating, a haunting elegy to distant youth. It's remarkable how well the original carefree lyrics serve this version's musically somber theme.
that is such a joyous way to extend the classic. On Oh Pan gan there's a bar called Echo Beach after the song and you can get lots of goodies of the non legal kinds there. This lady could sing and she still can.
this song is so bittersweet for me..i was in high school & living in (New Brunswick, Canada in the very early 80s) when this song came out..a guy i befriended one summer had the 'Metro Music' album..he was a super nice guy..we would hang out and listen to this album.I still rememeber vividly the album sleeve up against the wall in his living room..he ended up moving to Toronto in the 90s .I eventually moved to Montreal in the 90s.he died of AIDS a few years back..'Echo Beach' is always 4 him
That guitar riff is so dark and mysterious slowed down. Reminds me of leaves blowing down an empty alley in the night. Did a cover of the original in my band some 20 odd years ago and I can still remember where I was when I first heard it I was lying ontop of bass bins in the back of a battered old transit van on the way to rehearsals haha . Everything about it is pure perfection :)
Cheers 1964Loukas, it always reminds me of living in Redditch where I worked. To me they were exciting times, even though the news was full of doom & gloom every day, music then brightened the day. It was full of interesting sounds and melody, reaching the soul. These days its boy bands and girl groups. Mind you I do like Fishermens Friend, see them on RUclips at Glastonbury singing John Anakaka. All the best mate
Absolutely awesome version. I'm now 59, so the original was perfect for the younger me, while this version is perfect for the 'more mature' me! Wish I could purchase a vinyl version!
This is amazing....a dirgey, lugubrious Nick Cave treatment of Echo Beach If we are really, really lucky this is how we mature Thnx for the upload a haunting and beautiful rendition of an eternal classic
Just found this now, and it's beautiful. Wish someone from our old gang would have heard it and sent it around. Simply a great sing along song at our parties with 100 or so of our closest friends, and a large living room full of sweaty dancing. Hope everyone from the old band is well. Thanks for the great song. Here's to you from Buffalo. Of course we heard it on CFNY when it was great.
Echo Beach is my favorite song. It's closely associated to a very emotional period of my life. It was playing the night I met the girl that would become my very first love. Today, when I hear the song it brings me back far way in time, to my own Echo beach.
Such a sensitive rendition of one my favorite songs, it has has matured with Martha, she has taken us on a journey from the epic original song to present day ... Echo Beach is no longer far away in time, it is here!
+NightAl AMV Class song from 1980. Vastly underrated. About the wish to be elsewhere other than where you are. Thirty years on the same thoughts. It wa sgreat to be young but we didn't know it. Too busy being it.
I really like this haunting version, The original reminds me of a family vacation on Mara Lake B.C. I was a 13 year old guy with long blond hair and a bowler hat gathering with other thirteen year olds on vacation and meeting girls. I now am 62 years old and wonder who that old guy hanging out in my mirror is. I miss having long hair . . . I miss having hair! I am every age I ever was And always will be. Elizebeth Berg
@@JonVoid37 I can't remember which Elizabeth Berg book that I read that in (I've read most of her books) but I too found it to be one of my favorite quotes on aging. It stuck with me.
that was beautiful...I just found earlier versions (1980, then 1978!) and watched them, for the nostalgia rush...then found this, which incorporates all of the above with a stunning arrangement that highlights the poignancy of the reminiscencing. Brilliant job on this performance, this video. This sure is a keeper.
Lovingly & thoughtfully re-worked, showing what a strong song it was then - and is now. One of my all time favourite songs and this version of it is just fantastic! :)
Go to about 29:30 in this clip of Canadian surf chick band the Surfrajettes and hear how beautifully your song adapts to the surf guitar sound. It feels like you wrote it for this style of music. Echo Beach is classic and timeless! ruclips.net/video/KMXUZ4viI4I/видео.html
Only just came across this! I wouldn't have thought a slow version would ever work but this is so full of loss and longing and the slow mantra from 3:08 is absolutely so sad and forlorn. Tears.
We loved this band when we were young and had our own New Wave band called Blanco Beach. 35 years I restarted to record music and I a now on the radio with 8 songs and in 3 songs are New Wave elementes. See youtube: Bruno Pinkhof(Belgian New Wave) we played in a lot of New Wave bands when we were young and my friend Eric did the remix of the Simple Minds. I met Ray Cokes 35 years later. In Good News, The Living Atom, Airways are some New Wave elements from that early period and experiments we did in the past.
Beautiful arrangement!! So glad I found this version, having just finished my own version of the tune it's all quite emotional! - Thanks for the music x
Crazy, I was 14 when this was released. Now in 2023 I am 57 and still enjoying my favorite music of the 1980’s and 1990’s.
ich war auch 14, habe das lied aber erst ein oder 2 jahre später das erste mal gehört .
Too slow, the original it's so beautiful, another planet.. Echo beach far away in time echo beach far avay intime..

Love this comment. I came to write something similar, but this will do the trick
Thanks
Good songs never old 🎶🎼🎵
Bollocks. Not a wonderful metaphor but a sad metaphor that doesn't have to be that way.
And even this is now twelve years old. Echo Beach, far away in time.

Wow! Great acoustic version of this song! I've always loved Martha's unique sounding vocals!
It’s such an iconic song and I love it now, as much as I did over 30 years ago ❤️🏴

The original is one of my all-time favorite songs so I was skeptical but this is a beautiful and haunting version.
Happy New Year 2022 to you all and please stay safe from the Corona Virus, many greetings from Brunswick in Germany :)
The sax is everything to this song. Take it away and it’s ruined. Slow it down it’s buried.
