Its kinda the coach's mistake. For example Ippo is extremely fast for an In fighter and has good footwork. But what did he do against Sendo , Take , Shimabukora and Imai ? Instead of trying to use his speed to overwhelm them like he did in the current manga chapter against Sendo, he tried to match them stremgthwise which is dangerous since it causes alot of damage to his body on the long term His Coach Should have told him that
He has terrible fight IQ and relies too much on his iron chin (neither of which his coach does much to fix) but has an absolutely superhuman response to training.

ippo using footwork on world stage when coming back will be good for his added skills he just never used it in the ring but if he did on right occasions he’ll be more dangerous and can take less hits
its also noted recently that how he is training the 2 kids under him, is basically as if he is using counters too, meaning he has expanded his options a lot more too, for real, moment he comes back, he will murder his first opponent
