Think,I own the place to build your confidence and the people around you will consider you as an intimidating/ threatening personality.Too polite and other side of the scenario too dominating is also not good.Finding a way in between the the both ends is the key.

I couldn't figure out why until hearing your bit about "delusional self-confidence." Of course, I would like to point out that this only works well when the subject matter during the speech is related to my 'deep domain expertise.' If not, I am a dunce.
