  • A shave with the Parker 96R TTO Butterfly Safety Razor!
    Note: I noticed that the Parker razor blade says "Premium Platinum." However, the smoothness of this blade does not match other blades I've used that have platinum coatings. YMMV.

    I later noticed that the Parker razor blade I used in this video is labeled "Premium Platinum." It's not labeled this way on the packaging, so I missed seeing this on the blade. I assumed the blade was similar to many of stainless blade I've used. Meaning, it might not have a platinum, tungsten, etc. coating. Still, despite being labeled "Platinum," it had more edge and aggression. It wasn't as smooth as an Astra Green, Lord Platinum, or Vikings blade Mild razor blade. One viewer commented that the Parker blade is rougher than most. That's not too far off, I think. YMMV, of course. However, the slightly more aggressive quality of the Parker blade appeared to "up" the efficiency of the 96R razor.

      Alex, I now have three Parker razors: The Variant Adjustable Razor, the A1R travel Razor, and the 96R TTO Butterfly Razor. My only caveat with the 96R is the doors loosening up a bit during the shave. Again, it just may be operator error. Otherwise, a terrific shave with the 96R.:)

    Thank you for the close up showing the uniformity of the blade gap and exposure. This is paramount considering Parker's checkered past with quality control. I previously owned a Parker 96R but had to let it go because it always nicked me due to it's uneven blade gap and exposure. It also felt too aggressive for me, likely caused by the aforementioned. I prefer mild yet efficient razors and it now seems the Parker 96R might be worthy of another try. Thank you for sharing.

      Hi, billiam., I'm very glad to hear you enjoyed the video.:) I'm doing a follow-up on Friday with the 96r. Again, I'm a little apprehensive about the handle loosening the doors ever so slightly. I guess if you simply make sure to double check everything is snug, you'll be fine. As I now recall, I also find myself snugging up some 3-piece razors whether they need it or not. I probably do it simply out of habit without knowing..:)

    Hi Mark. Glad you liked this Parker razor. I have a Parker 91 R, it's a 3 piece razor that I'd say is in the mild-medium range. Not a bad razor, but it can't compare to my Karve. This shave looks interesting. Sometimes with those twist to open razors, the doors start to open up a bit especially if you have your hand close to the knob to open it. You do have to be careful with twist to opens. Another excellent video, Mark looking forward to seeing more. Cheers! 🍻🍻🪒🪒
    Btw, I finally did pull the trigger and purchase a tub of A&E soap, just waiting for it to get here. Looking forward to that shave haha. Hope you have a good day and glad you had a good shave.

    Great shave Mark, seems like a great daily driver, I’m pretty sure the Parker blades are platinum coated, they do have more bite than an Astra blade but I found them very smooth with a Merkur Progress and very efficient.

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  4 года назад

      Hi, RK 516. Yes, I noticed this after the fact. It was the way I read the label. Completely missed "Premium Platinum." The "Stainless Steel," being in white against a black background, stood out. Still, i corrected this in a pinned comment. Even though these Parker blades are platinum coated, Astras and Lord Platinum blades, IMHO, are smoother. One viewer commented that the Parker blade is rougher than most. That's not too far off, I think. YMMV, of course.: I'll give them another try for sure.:)

      Thanks, Charles:) I agree with your assessment of the Parker razor blades. Lkike you, I found that they had a little more edge than other blades. • @MarkSzorady

      Andy, I have several. I love all the Parker 3-piece razors. The 56R is wonderful and the Semi Slant is equally great. I also have the Parker A1R Travel razor. it's a marvelous razor and I have traved with it on weekend getaways.
      ruclips.net/video/FUtEhTvVxN4/видео.html
      These 3-piece razors from Parker all deliver some wonderful shaves. I'd say they are slightly more aggressive/efficient that an Edwin jagger DE89, but quite smooth.
      The 96R delivers a wonderful, mild shave. However, as I pointed out in the video, because the entire handle turns, it may tend to open the doors and result in a loose blade. This could cause a nick or cut. I find myself constantly checking it to make sure the doors are closed. That's the only minor downside. I also can't fault the 96R too much because I always check my razors throughout a shave, due to habit, to make sure things haven't loosened up. It's just seems that I'm more aware of it with the 96R. So, it could just be me.:)
      the end tabs of the razor blade are exposed a bit more on the 96R than on gh 3-piece razors I mentioned. But not to the point where they might get in the way. It also means the razor head width is a bit more compact which, for some, makes if more maneuverable.
      Of the razors I mentioned, I'd say the 96R delivers the mildest shave. I like the razor. I have no problem recommending it but with the caveat that you just double check that doors as you shave to make sure things are secure. :)

    Nice shave. Have you ever lost any hairs from a synthetic brush while applying lather?

    • @MarkSzorady
      @MarkSzorady  4 года назад +1

      Hi, ThaRedPitbull-Mix. Yes. Usually, this happens shortly after getting the brush. I do an initial cleaning with a mild soap before I use the brush. I do this just to get out any residual dust or particulate matter that might have settled into the brush during manufacture, packaging, shipping, etc. Then, I allow it to dry. On that first use, I'll sometimes get a stray hair fall out while lathering. This may be due to the bristle not being fully attached when the knot was glued together. Once that first hair or two falls out, I don't get any more. I may get a stray hair here and there once in a blue moon. However, to prevent this from happening further, I always make sure to use warm water when soaking, using, and cleaning the brush. Hot water temperatures can sometimes breakdown the glue that hold the knot together. So if hot water is constantly used, there is a potential for some degradation and breakdown of the glue. Also, it really depends on the construction and Q/C of the brush. I purchased a bargain basement boar brush (I think it was five or six bucks), and had nothing but hairs constantly falling out during the shave. You can see it hear: ruclips.net/video/JQAQR98Gk9g/видео.html
