ESG people, thank you for your work. You're killing it and I appreciate it. Are there any plans to gather/report on manufacturer reliability over time? It seems like, with cars, we have a lot of data to tell us how things really work out over time, whereas this channel is almost entirely "initial quality", which, with this kind of product seems like a particularly sketchy... vector. How often do things break and how much of a hassle is it? Example: in 1995, my mom wanted a car and I recommended a Toyota. Based on the data, Toyotas were not just a little bit more reliable than Kias, they were in a very different league, even at similar price points. Toyotas were better than Fords, but Fords were better than Kias, and Kias were so bad that they really shouldn't even have been on the American market. The only people who bought them were either very clueless, or very desperate, or both. Anyone who bought a Kia in 1995 over a Toyota with 100k miles on it was STILL making a huge mistake. You see what I mean? And informed people knew that. It's not really an opinion. Anyone who recommended a Kia to my mom in 1995 would have been costing her time and money. That's FACTS. I could have kicked the tires on Kia, then on a Toyota, and said the "build quality" seems "solid" but that is meaningless and you KNOW it, ESG. I'd prefer you didn't even say it if there was no attempt to prove a difference. Anyway, just curious if that was coming. I see that there are three types of companies in this space: 1. Old companies like DualTron who design and build their own stuff 2. Companies of questionable origin and intent who experiment with different configurations of cheaply available parts, slap a name on it, and sell it, and 3. Something in between 1 and 2 But these reviews never seem to acknowledge the tremendous gap in customer experience that I imagine exists here just as it does in cars. I feel like I've been in this scooter world for a while now and I have no way of distinguishing between a really fun fast piece of short-lived junk, and something that is really intended to last through reasonable use. I'm staring at a bunch of scooters and they may all LOOK like Toyotas, but I'm starting to think maybe they're ALL 1995 Kias? Maybe the industry isn't mature enough for non-hobbyist buyers yet? What's the longest you've heard of ANY Apollo scooter being kept and ridden? What kind of maintenance was involved and how long did it take? Honestly the lifespan on electric scooters in general seems to be in the months, at best, not years. Am I crazy? Anyway, thank you ESG, you are great. Keep being great. Love the live show too. Ya'll all building something really cool.

I just purchased the new version of this with pneumatic tires and am happy with it overall. Other than your complaints about the solid tires (now resolved), the finicky brakes are definitely the weak point; they work well to stop the scooter, but drag frequently and need adjustment. I'm hoping to replace them with hydraulic brakes to make them less fiddly. Mine were at least adjusted reasonably from the factory and did not require any tweaking to at least give good braking performance out of the box. This was my first scooter and I debated between this and other single-motor options with about half the total motor power in the same price class, and was (after testing it out) very happy I went with the Pegasus. I live in a hilly area and wasn't sure how much power you actually need. This scooter keeps up fine going up even steep hills, but in single-motor mode it's very slow on moderate grades and any lower-powered single-motor scooter would have similar problems. You can get better scooters at this power or more, but nothing that also has full suspension, equivalent or better range, at a similar price. With the new pneumatic tires soaking up some of the bumps, the slightly stiff suspension is just fine and I can ride it over just about any patch of rough pavement without any issues at all. Would definitely like to see you review the new version and find out how you think it compares.
I saw some other scooter RUclipsrs test the high speed at 28mph and even 30mph. Anyway, this high speed can totally satisfy my on-road needs. Thanks for the great review!
Thanks Oliver. Not sure why others get higher speeds. On flat ground, using a data-logger, ours for sure only goes to 25. Still as fast as I really want to go on solid 8" tires though. :-) Cheers -Paul
What helps me decide if I want a scooter with solid tires or not is whether or not I will need to use it as a reliable method of transportation, in which I would probably be on well-paved roads and rely on never getting a flat so I can actually get to where I'm going reliably. Air-filled tires are great if I off road or want to have fun and don't rely on it for transportation.
Paul another great review! I just watched another review from a different source and definitely your review is so complete that a feel like a Pegasus guru now . Thanks for your good work!!!!
I have the updated one and it seems way better from what I'm getting from this video about the solid tire version. I only have a bit of an issue with the new one when I go off road. The scooter slips a bit at high speed so I start drifting
Should be able to tweak the P settings to be less aggressive, less spin and loss of control, question, did you ever buy the seat for it? Im looking for literally anyone that has to see what they think of the sit down ride quality and stability
I dont care if my ride to and from work feels like I'm on a mountain, I choose solids tires. Nothing like having the peice of mind of knowing even if i ride on a broken glass road that my trip won't get disabled by an annoying flat tire.
do you have a video on how to check brakes before your first ride? i am a beginner and about to get this scooter. i have no idea how to tune or correct brakes on an e-scooter and would like to know how to and how easy it is to do it. thank you! this review helped a lot!
A couple years ago I was talking to some guy who had a $1K scooter and he told me "always get non flat tires". He was saying that any scooter that comes with regular tires is a flat tire waiting to happen. Why? Because the tire is ALWAYS In use. It's always in action, as opposed to the suspension or maybe the taillights or some other features that aren't constantly taking the brunt if 200 pounds going 20mph+
Great review Paul! The Varla Pegasus is a solid option at that pricepoint. There is also the Dualtron Compact for dual motor solids. However, the Dualtron is over twice the price. I have almost a 1000 miles on my Dualtron Compact. I love the worry free nature of solid tires but do miss high speed cornering and the cushier ride with pneumatics. I can give up the high-speed cornering and a little comfort for the peace of mind of not ever being left stuck because of a flat. It has happened to me a few times on other pneumatic tire scooters I have had in the past.
Hi Robert, Thanks so much for the comment. The Dualtron Compact seems to be a pretty rare scooter so far. (so rare, I sort of forgot about it, to be honest) Glad to hear you've got so many trouble free miles out of it so far. I'd love to test one out and see what Dualtron's take on solid tires is like. They're a really unique tread pattern. Is the tread noisy or buzzy at all? Probably gets really good traction off road. Have you tried offroading at all? -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I have seen 3 in San Francisco while I was waiting at stop lights. I was shocked to see another one in the wild. I have gone on trails and it is not very good. We realized after the video was made that we omitted the Dualtron Compact, but I wasn't aware Nanrobot had a solid tire scooter until just now. Interesting. -Paul
I don't think endorsing people to "not get to know the nuts and bolts of of your scooter" is bad advice. Any scooter, no matter what brand, will need adjustment of some sorts. My Eagle One needed both brakes adjusted, as well as the entire cockpit controls adjusted. Plus, it's advisable to regularly check for any lose bolts. Never assume your scooter just works, because you could get stranded, damage your scooter and even hurt yourself.
Hi, do you guys plan on doing a review on the Xtron X08/Cyberbot Mini? Seems like a direct competitor to the Pegasus for same price but has pneumatic tires and higher top end speed.
Having hard tires on motor driven wheels is a good idea, it is after all a sport so using your legs as suspension should be expected and the rescue-Mark-V12 uses both front styles for front air cushioning of sidewalk climbs while having a longer life hard motor style👍
I have a question. Is there another mode for faster driving i saw another review eith this scooter with top speed was 50kmh im a little rough on the many so i cant buy a moped
What is your opinion on 10 inch solid tires, does it feel any more comfortable? Im looking at a scooter with suspension with the option of 10 inch solid or air tires
Bigger diameter and suspension both should help a lot, especially if the tire is somewhat hollow. Just be careful about the flat spots from skidding though. It's super annoying if you develop a thud thud thud, but it's not that hard to avoid. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide thought as much, it's French, I think, but there's really little to read like reviews or stuff on the net/RUclips about it! Is it likely you would look into this and perhaps review one of their models? 😅🙈 If so, could it be the 'Wiizzee' 7S Max? 😬🙈
I'm thinking about buying this for my 10 mile commute to work for the summer in Chicago. I take public transportation and this will cute my commute time in half.
How many miles can it go on a single charge? I'm looking thru scooters and this one caught my attention because of the solid tires, was thinking about doing some Uber eats deliveries with it, do you recommend it? 👀
In my opinion, this has the most unique design and best looking scooter on it's price range. I remember someone saying it's the BMW of electric scooters.
It's a cool shape for sure. Performance for price surprised the heck out of us. I'm still scratching my head over how 8" solid tires turned in the 4th best stopping distance ever, which is funny because I was the one doing the test. I think I know why it stops so well though. Combination of a long-low deck and the firm suspension that seems to have some damping (probably from friction) built in. You can see it though, when Richie is doing the hard stops. There is just zero drama when this comes to a hard stop. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Agree with all of that! You forgot to mention the head scratching acceleration as well! (Pars or beats the Wolf Warrior X) But yes, size, center of gravity and everything else makes all the difference. It's like putting the 191 Horsepower engine of my Chevy Malibu sedan to a tiny Toyota 86 (the car actually has 191 Horsepower). As usual, thanks for sharing your enthusiasm, Paul 🤓.
Yeah the acceleration was a surprise too. The Wolf X Pro is also surprsingly not-intense off the line though, considering its specs :-) Thanks for the comments! Always appreciated! -Paul
$1100 for this Varla Pegasus or $925 for a Segway Ninebot G30 Max with an external 48 volt kit? Both rated for 28mph, I can get a new Segway for $650 + the 48v kit is $275, any thoughts?
Do you like this for then the Mantis 8 in the same price? I wonder if I should refund my Mantis Pre-order for this instead. ( will tire flats be a major issue)
Sorry just saw this. I really like the way the Mantis 8 rides. Because the tires are tubeless, you can prevent almost all flats by using tire-slime or armordilloz. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I had viewed a warning about tubeless tires potentially stuck to the wheel permanently because of using slime. An even more costly issue if the wheel contains the motor. Do you feel using slime is a big risk?
Is it true that it's initial movement is kinda abrupt n jerky despite just slightly goin on the throttle? Like is it like a volume know or dimmer light switch or does it come on quick?
Any scooter with split rims is going to be fairly easy. electric-scooter.guide/comparisons/compare-electric-scooters/ Our database lets you filter for "split" or "solid: wheels if you expand the filters to show the extended filters. -Paul
Difficult to say. We use a Racelogic Vbox Sport that samples position 20 times per second and then records all of the data so we can export to to Google sheets and analyze it. We definitely had it fully charged and in its highest performance mode. The serial number on ours suggests it might be production unit number 1, so it's possible the very early units weren't as fast. It's been very consistent at maxing out at 25mph. Honestly, I don't want to go faster than that on 8" solid tires, but I definitely tried to! -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Thanks for the reply Paul! Yeah I actually find 25 mph to be the sweet spot for a solid tire scooter. I currently have a Etwow Booster GT with a similar top speed and any faster starts to get a bit dangerous. The biggest problem for me as I don't live in Southern California and there is no one to change a tire I have owned too many $1500 scooters that i consider disposable because when the tires go bad no one can replace them and sending it back to California is cost ineffective solid tires are stupid but that the only answer for people who don't live near a place that can take care of this issue. Have you ever ridden a 'Wiizzee' scooter? If so which model and how does it compare?
Haven't heard of the Wiizzee, unfortunately.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide and thanks a lot for the reply, Paul! Have a nice weekend!
What’s better, the new updated 9 inch varla pegasus, or this one?
We have not tested the updated one! -Vosk
I'm thinking about buying this for my 10 mile commute to work for the summer in Chicago. I take public transportation and this will cute my commute time in half.
That would be awesome!
Id also like to make my commute cute.
Do you know that when it comes to replace the tire-motor set ..costs 400 euro ..each ..aka 800 for both ? I just contact varla…
How many miles can it go on a single charge? I'm looking thru scooters and this one caught my attention because of the solid tires, was thinking about doing some Uber eats deliveries with it, do you recommend it? 👀
Around 20!
I wouldn't call this a bargain scooter. It's duel up 33 mph, full suspension and x2 disk breaking... a bargain scooter is more hiboy or segway.
Thanks for the input
The Wolf X Pro is also surprsingly not-intense off the line though, considering its specs :-)
Thanks for the comments! Always appreciated! -Paul
$1100 for this Varla Pegasus or $925 for a Segway Ninebot G30 Max with an external 48 volt kit?
Both rated for 28mph, I can get a new Segway for $650 + the 48v kit is $275, any thoughts?
Varla is a more complete scooter!
Greetings. Thanks for the tube.
-Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide never used tire slime before will have to look into it thank you
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I had viewed a warning about tubeless tires potentially stuck to the wheel permanently because of using slime. An even more costly issue if the wheel contains the motor. Do you feel using slime is a big risk?
Is it true that it's initial movement is kinda abrupt n jerky despite just slightly goin on the throttle? Like is it like a volume know or dimmer light switch or does it come on quick?
It’s about average for a similar scooter! Thanks for watching.-Vosk
what do you think about the Kaabo Mantis 8 from Kaabousa? (Not the FFR version)
Best to stay away from them, too many bad stories
can you do a comparison between this and the mercane widewheel pro?
Unfortunately Not, these are older models! -Vosk
Can someone please recommend me a scooter that have air tire wheels that is easy to replace? unlike my m365 pro?
Any scooter with split rims is going to be fairly easy.

It has the same folding latch as my jetson ora pro
Cool! Thanks for the feedback. -Vosk

I wonder why you guys only got a top speed of 25 mph? Most other tests I have seen are over 30.
I've had so many scooters with my most powerful being the Thunder and I've actually found my most enjoyable to be the Booster GT due to its low wait and portability. I don't feel like I'm riding a small moped.

I’ve been riding the ETWOW for the last couple days for the last mile of my commute. I’m always surprised how fast it is! When I’m in a hurry, it’s a good one to grab because I don’t have to worry about tire pressure or fussing with it to get it wedged into the trunk. Chuck’s first scooter was also an ETWOW.
stupid question but can you mount a seat on this? that would make it legal in my country
Depends on your country! Every country, City & State have different laws. -Vosk
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide huh what?? i don't think u understand what i mean. I am asking if you can build a seat on this model. Without a seat driving this model is illegal in my country. thats why i asked
Segway nine bot is still king,
Electric scooter guide!!!! You just left out the NanRobot again: The NanRobot is LIGHTNING is faster stronger and better quality
Thanks for the heads up Vegard. Nanrobot just isn't well distributed in the US currently, so we never hear much about them and rarely see them at ESG. Have you ridden one? How is the suspension? The shocks look similar to the rear one on the Fiido, which in that application is a bit stiff, but might be just right on a C-shape suspension. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Hello Paul. I have tried the NanRobot Lightning(dual 800w wide wheel scooter). The best part with that scooter is the build quality and good suspension. They have mainly sold here in Europe but just got a dealer ship in the US also. They just released their new flag ship model(LS7+). This beast would make great content for your channel👍🏼
The nanrobot is the same scooter as the Pegasus just branded name is the only thing different.
Just like the zero 10x it's the same scooter as the Varla Eagle One the only difference is the brand names that's it
@@chrisdudley8366 That is very not true
The biggest problem for me as I don't live in Southern California
and there is no one to change a tire
I have owned too many $1500 scooters that i consider disposable because when the tires go bad no one can replace them and sending it back to California is cost ineffective
solid tires are stupid but that the only answer for people who don't live near a place that can take care of this issue.
I live in an area with 3 million people but no one claims to be able to change tires on electric scooters
sounds like it would be a great business
a sad fact
Very insightful! Thanks for sharing.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide you inspired me to fix my Luna Cycle Apocalypse and get it running this weekend successfully and I appreciate that.
I think some people hate it is because the build quality is rubbish, some parts may be ok, but I predict this product is a rubbish bin filler in the near future.
Sorry to be so harsh.
hey guys for some reason my scooter says manual on the lcd display how do i remove that?
Not sure to be honest!
This or a aviator 2.0?
Aviator for the win! -Vosk
Plz review new version and vmax r40
I’m curious about the new version. My least favorite thing about this one was definitely the solid tires. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide is it ok to go off a curb with this? also great vids and plz review the vmax r40 it looks pretty much identical to the vx4

I like this scooter it’s very fun but it’s tires remove the ability of a smoother ride
Yes solid tires are not for everyone! -Vosk
I have the Apollo Ghost, and Kugoo G2 Pro(Hiboy Titan) and just ordered the Pegasus. Varla will NOT ship to Canada so I had to pay full purchase price and buy from aliexpress... I just got back from a 4am ride on the Ghost and am frozen... riding will come to an end here in Canada pretty soon so the 60 day wait for the Peg won't be so bad...really looking forward to testing out come spring and wish Varla would either ship outside of the USA or get a distributor so I didn't have to pay $1,535cnd on aliexpres...
How’s the ghost been? I can’t decide between this Pegasus, ghost, explorer, wide wheel pro. Thoughts?
No flats.
For $1100 that is sure a lot of plastic on that deck.
