Everyone asking this question seems to have a memory that starts and ends with the 675 Daytona. The 675 was not the first Daytona. Daytona is a name Triumph has used many times for fully faired "sport bikes" going back decades. It is just like Kawasaki does with the Ninja name.

The iconic 675r was the only hard core Daytona sport bike, the rest of the Daytonas were road focused sporty bikes - so in actual fact the 675r was the odd one out.

I love how the first round of reviews were like "the suspension sucks!" and the people who weren't reactive have come to the conclusion that "I mean, it's not a race bike. If you want a great street bike it's fine for that."

Especially when it has the exact same suspension of almost every bike in the class lol.

It's not a great street bike tho compared to competitors like the RS660 or Street Triple. Crap suspension on a "premium" middleweight and excessive weight is lagging.

@@TheOnceAndFutureDoug These bikes are still supposed to be for bombing the twisties, even if they are not as harcore as the old 600 class. I have yet to find a review of the triumph that doesn't complain about the suspension when riding sporty. That's a huge fail for me.

Half of manufacturers are bumping displacement, other half are cashing in on an iconic name. KTM, Yamaha are adding, Suzuki & Triumph are taking away and calling it special. The Daytona was better than the Street Triple as far as performance and part’s allotted. I’d definitely get a Street Triple over this bike and smoke it in every way. Same with Suzuki’s GSXR’s give me a 750, bc the 8 falls short.

I'm definitely leaning towards this out of all the options. I've sat on a Ninja 650, Tuono 600, RS660, CBR650R, GSX-8R along with several other bikes. The RS660 was way too leaned forward for a guy coming from a supermoto/street only rider. The 8R just felt ok, and the sound is meh. The Ninja and Honda felt the best, but I don't like how either engine sounds. I love the flat torque of the Triumph triples. I'm 90% sure I'll either get the Daytona 660 or the Tiger 660.

Don't get the Daytona please lol
Tiger 660 is a fine bike if you're going adv. The 8R if you full exhaust and flash it turns into a different engine I can confirm that and it doesn't have the garbage suspension the Daytona has. Ninj 650 is borrrrrrrring.
Tuono 660 factory might be what you want.

    • @englishsteel-nz6im
      @englishsteel-nz6im 2 месяца назад +1

@@beefcoleman Exactly. It's unacceptable for a bike like this to be like 450 pounds, these are supposed to be light and highly flickable as they're not high on power.
Ninj 400 is such a success cuz 370 pounds and extremely flickable platform, suspension upgrades and it's a beast in the curves even tho it's a lower power 400.

Nice bike - HOWEVER - In my years of riding sportbikes and modifying them for me, I would not buy the bike due to the lack of suspension adjustability.
For me, that train left the station a long time ago.
I would pay the extra $2K for proper preload, compression and damping adjustable suspension.
In part I buy a KTM 300 because of the suspension.
As far as the name Daytona goes, it matters not to me.

Nice review of the 660, thanks. Cool to see Triumph competing with similar bikes including my '21 Ninja 650 (which is a fun, comfortable, reliable bike for roads). 3 cylinders is an advantage here, though I wonder what the fuel economy is with the tank size at 3.7 at 443 wet pounds. More comfort is great, and a cool style helps too as seen here. Nice bike. Thanks!

Nice review. Really like the triple engine & it's a decent looking bike too. I haven't ridden the 660 but as an overall package I prefer the GSX8R for the road due to it's low down & midrange torque. The Suzuki's superior build quality & warranty is also a big selling point for me.

Heavy(440 wet?), soft non-adjustable suspension, wheelbase and chassis not suited to carving up corners likely front heavy....
In the class nobody is competing with the RS660 even a little bit... also Triumph... SpeedTripleRR would have been the bike to make as a 765 Street Trip RR and would have sold loads of them b4 the R9 even came in as a thing.

Worthy? The name is Triumph’s to apply. The Supersports of the past were too tightly focused and costly to maintain interest that translated into supporting sales, essentially an evolutionary dead end. Consequently they faded from the landscape. The compromises that yielded the new generation of sporty offerings are what will translate into sales.

It's coming down to the Daytona 660 & the GSX 8r for my son & also a good friend of mine! My friend narrowed his list down from a ZX4r, Ninja 650, CBR 650, Yammi R7, and the Aprilia 660 he thought was a little pricey. I already own both a Ninja 650 & CBR650 ...and after he rode both of mine, he feels that the Daytona slots right between both of those as far as price, road feel, comfort, gas mileage, and sportiness. We'll see what they both choose sometime this summer..

Yes, the Suzuki has some better finished parts, but the Daytona fit my body better, has a better seat, and the engine is wayy better for what I'm looking for (less vibey, better gearing, pull everywhere in the revrange, the lighter flywheel... I hope they kinda turn the Daytona into like a “style” or brand of triumph and we get the beginner Daytona 660, then intermediate Daytona 765, and the high end Daytona 1200. The 1200 would be weird cuz then there wouldn’t be a reason to have the speed RR

For the money, I don't know why the Daytona 660 would ever be chosen over the Street Triple. The increase in price for the STR is pretty negligible, $900 in Canada, and you're getting better components and performance all round. Even if you prefer the aesthetics of the fairings, the Daytona 660 doesn't seem like a good purchase, even when compared to Triumph's own lineup.

When everyone is asking the same question the answer is obvious , no it’s not worthy because if it was there wouldn’t be everyone asking the question to begin with. Meaning it’s not up to par with the previous Daytona’s and not worthy of the name.
