Glorious! Im curious what your thoughts are on the UB-Xa compaired to other budget analog polysynths. For instance, I own a Benringer Pro-800. It's great for the price, but it's only got a mono out, and I'm not a fan of the membrain pad buttons. I found myself loosing inspiration rather quickly with it, even after running it through a chorus pedal. Do you think the UB-Xa would be a meaningful upgrade for me, or are there any other analog polysynths (with stereo out) that you would recommend that won't break the bank?
The Two Sub £1000 synths that spring to mind are Yes the UBXa it has 16 Voices Pure analog VCO. but no effects, however it makes up for it with it's stunning raw sound. The Deepmind 12 is a very capable beast too, and has a great editor, librarian, very nice effects and a very capable mod matrix if you enjoy sound design. The deepmind is digital oscilators (DCO not VCO) but it still sounds great!
@@deckardlovesrachael personally I wouldn’t say better, but certainly a completely different flavour. For ambient type music I’d say Waldorf iridium, Hydrasynth or something of that nature would be great. I listen to a lot of State Azure on RUclips and he seems to use them a lot in his ambient soundscapes. But really with ambient, effects play a huge part in creating the mood. So strymon bigsky, Walrus Audio Slöer and such like will really help you get magic ambient sounds from most synths. 👌
(Super nerdy comment incoming) This sounds beautiful and your programming is flawless! But it still doesn't sound right, because it's missing the octave down jump (almost like a pitched delay) caused by the sub oscillator interacting with the sync mode on the OB-6. I've tried to re-create this patch on all my synths because its my fave patch as well, and so far the only one that it works properly on is the Prophet 6, because the sync behaves in the same esoteric way to create those strange octave jumps down. I suspect the Trigon would work too. I'm wondering why only that particular trio of synths has this interaction between sync and sub osc, cause it really is such a cool sound that makes it unique. You could totally add an octave down delay before your verb to emulate it, but it is so cool that the Sequential synths do that effect in-synth.
Thanks Devin, that pseudo delay is actually the sequencer playing softer notes buddy, if you play the OB6 dry and single out each oscillator you will hear each one is playing exactly the same part, or record the midi from the sequence you will see what sounds like that pitched delay is actually note data buddy. I have also analysed this one to death, and the majority of what I really love is in that glorious filter. I know what you mean with the P6 esoteric octave jumps it's stunning, I used it in SM Octave Keys in Divinity Vol.1 - ruclips.net/video/r9Kb73yoAuk/видео.htmlsi=2obEu90usnWuQ2xI
@@scottmcauleysounds incredible patch man! That’s making me wish that I still had my P6. And wait a second: maybe I am misunderstanding, but how come I can hear the octave down jump on my ob-6 007 patch when playing with the keys not the sequencer? If I run it dry with no fx and just noodle, the octave jump still happens.
@@devinbelangermusic hmm maybe yours is acting a different way to mine buddy. I’d be interested to hear that. Because my OB6 factory 507 definitely doesn’t. How odd! 😂 please send me an mp3 via FB buddy.
@@devinbelangermusic or hang on, are you in vintage? or detune mode? That would definitely change things sync wise, I permanently have mine in vintage mode. (Not in studio at the moment)
Sorry Scott, I was too telegraphic… I meant: do you pick UB-Xa or OB-X8 as overall best synthesizer? And regarding @AlessiMoretti is it too disturbing for you minding your business?
@@lavoltabbona - Hi there, I would still go for the OB-X8 if I'm honest, it definitely seems to have more power than the UB-Xa, However, the OB is a chunk of cash and not attainable for everyone. It is really dependant on how original an "OB" sound you'd like. The OB-X8 is a tank, built to last with metal pot stems etc, the UB-Xa is a solid build, but pot stems are plastic so can be prone to snapping if used in live scenarios. Sound-wise they both sound amazing, and with the UB you have the added advantage of 16voices! which is something I would love in my OB-X8!! haha
Always loved that patch and sequence on my OB-6… I sold it and now miss it after this lol.
it really is a stunning patch and sequence. The UBXa does a remarkably good job of it too :)
WOW! Love this sound and chords when you posted the other video... sounds just as good!!
Thanks! the original OB6 patch really is one of my favourite ever sounds. and impressed to hear the UB-Xa get very close :)
While I await the Desktop arriving later today I enjoy this fantastic sound 🙏👌

Nice! I didn't know about the Sequencer Vel issue though. Definitely should bring that up for the update.
Thanks! yes unfortunately arp is the same, zero velocity changes. I have both on my next feature / improvement request :)
Would love to hear you give this a go on the 3rd wave as well!
Will include it in the next 3rd Wave bank ;)
Me encanta este sonido. Podria recrearse con el prophet 6? Es posible?
couldn't get it identical, but could certainly try, will add it to the list for next release :)

The Novation Summit is another, but a good bit higher priced than the above two, unless you can grab a used market deal :)

UB-Xa or OB-X8?
UB-Xa, the patch recreated is a factory patch 507 Broken Keys that comes in the OB-6. But everything you hear here is UB-Xa with some reverb.
pointless question, the title says ub-xa and so does the on screen text, the obx8 not even part 😒
