Everytime I hear that 2010 was 10 years ago I think of the face melting scene from Indiana Jones. When I see that year it feels like it wasn't that long ago, even hearing the record was set back then I was like "oh that's not that long ago". Man time just passes you by when you are an adult.
That's because each year you get older is a lesser fraction than the previous year of your overall life on Earth. It's an illusion, when you really take into account what you done 2010-2020 vs 2000-2010, it puts things back into perspective.
And this is one of many reasons lakitu is necessary in Mario Kart as a whole. Not even the only case from Mario Kart 64. Looking at you frappe snowland!
Isn't the reason for the 100th discrepancy similar to smash melee timer. They just have a list of .00 times they pull from for the full race time. And the lap times are just the difference between the total race times. I.E. 9'26+9'24 is 18'50 which is a time the game is fine with. so all the frames and the sorts add up. But the race ends at 27'73 so the difference is 9'23. Causing the seeming hundreth discrepancy. But lap times are measured from comparing how far into the total race you are, and nothing else.
I really love these grey "before using great invention" and the colorful "after starting to use them" comparisons, it was very entertaining here. What do you mean with the blurring out? I see that during the grey part the upper portion was blurred out, but was it supposed to imply something "sexual"? :D
I think we still have yet to find the optimal shortcut, mainly since the takeoff point (where you go to get over the fence) on all three laps are at different angles because of the different respawn points. It reminds me of the original Weathertenko on Choco Mountain, that TAS proved it was possible to get a 7-second lap, only for an optimized run by a human, later on, to make it (if I remember correctly) 4.
@rwhitegoose: When I play against the Cpu in Grand prix in Mario kart 64, in 150cc, I end-up finishing with the exact same time as a Cpu driver, and it does not always put me in first, and I remember in the past when I used the game shark code finish as soon as you start, in one player grand prix, I added that code for also player 2, 3 and 4, so that way the cpu that put themself on player 2, 3, 4 spot would receive the game shark code as well, on the first race it always put me in 4th, and it keep doing that for the entire grand prix, then i modified the code to only trigger when I wanted to trigger, so I play the first race without any cheat code, got first place, and trigger the cheat on the 2nd race, it put me on first for the rest of the grand prix, with the other Cpu that got the same cheat keep being place the same order they finish the first race. The I tested the cheat on 2player grand prix, on the first race player 1, his always first, and player 2 his always 2nd, then I made player finish in 2nd place, then player 2 finish in last place, with the code off on the first, race, when the code was turn back on for the second race, player 1 still got first and player 2 still got 2nd place, and the cpu that was just in front of Player 2 at the start of the first race his always 3rd with the same cheat.
Oof i think i spotted someone who commented before watching the video all the way through :3 sorry, couldn't resist, but he explained that the next best score would be a 27:73, a 27:70 after that etc, as the game doesn't let you finish on every possible time, instead recording only certain times.
i think imma take you on on that one, mostly bc i'm curious what could be considered a "fine" glass of iced tea. is it the glass? the Tea? the Fine? only one way to find out, i have to win that bet! XD
they struggled from 2004 to 2010 to get the 1 frame faster lap only once out of 3! that means a one frame faster lap happens once in 500,1000 or even 10 000 tries. for you to get 2 consecutive ones you would need the one in 1000*1000=1 000 000
So with the new skip found on Rainbow Road being found just days before I'm writing this, I assume everything about the possible ending frames also applies there?
It finally happened - Beck Abney did a 27.73 today!!!

Literally in game as they'll walk into a wall if they think they can clip through.
it just keeps on happening
Living Corpse that is a real speedrunning strat in doom 1 actually, you clip through a corner
Thats a Mission for Abney. Someone who is crazy enough to beat his own record of triple weathertenko is just insane enough to do this here
He just beat it tonight
"1 minute ago", I think this is a personal best for me.

Or the people on ntsc who think they've smashed a world record within the first hour of playing a game.

Not gonna lie, that transition into the sponsored part was so smooth
"VAAIIIJJEEE" thank you for pronouncing that very hard because otherwise lmao
E makes an A, sound like itself, instead of an Ah, so he did great, and avoided the joke.
Now if it was Vaij, then we might have a chuckle
HAHAHA I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that really going HAM on not getting the other pronunciation.
I enjoy the depth of analysis and love goose puts into these videos.

1:05 POOOOOOSSIBLE?
Next question: is the 5”75 sc flap record on Yoshi Valley beatable?
I don't even play or really like Mario Kart 64, but still watching, cause Goose's videos are always top.

That was such a smooth sponsor transition, I didn't even realize it was a sponsor at first
Man, I totally did the that shortcut in the late 90s. Won me the one or the other session, but man was it hard to do consistently.
Keep these games alive bro✊✊
16:44 The game might not want to give those three lap times, but it does want to give years upon years of good times... and it has delivered
